Well, Casper chowed her dinner last night and then chowed another whole can at +2.5 (followed by a trip to the LB for a poop). I'll have to go back downstairs to see where she ended up with breakfast - she walked away after eating half the bowl, but had retreated back to eat out of Coal's bowl. I think Casper is really digging have the water added to her. Coal not so much.

AMPS = 365 (fed 1 can of FF with water)
+5 = 396 (put out another can of FF with water)
+7 = 411 (probably some food spike in there)
PMPS = 381 (fed 1 can of FF with water)

We are off to a much better start today. DH managed to find the last two boxes of ReliOn strips yesterday, while he was out of town. So we can finally start using the ReliOn for all of these spot checks. $20 for a box of strips is a heck of a lot better than $50. I'm also going to head into Costco today and hope that the pharmacy is open. I was thinking that they would be closed for the holiday, but DH seems to think they will be open. Only one way to find out.

Re: 7/5 Casper AMPS 365

Going to get another check in here shortly. DH was right - the Costco pharmacy was open today. So I was able to pick up a new vial of lantus. It feels good to have that on hand. Where do (g)you get the lower quantity cartridges of lantus? I asked about getting the smaller vials and the pharmacist told me our vial was the smallest they go. I hate throwing out 1/2 vial each time. Surprisingly, the pharmacist told me that as long as I keep it in the fridge, I should be able to go longer than the stated 28 days. I hate how you just don't know if it is still good or not. I also need to find where to get the syringes with 1/2 unit markings.

On a Casper front, she has been in major chow-down mode. Especially since I started adding water to her food. Makes me wonder if I haven't been feeding her enough. Poor girl. Let the mommy guilt sink in. Although we are in the pink today, I'm okay with where we are at today. Much better than all of that red we've been seeing. And it probably means that our lantus isn't completely shot. Regardless, I'll probably switch her over to the new vial to see if we can get things moving again.

What size is it? 3ml or 10ml?

I know lots of beans order theirs online thru the Canadian online drug companies (I'm sure someone can provide the link for you)
Yes - you should be able to get a bit more than 28 days - many of us do. Just watch the numbers if all of a sudden they get wonky near the 28 days or so. They say look for "floaties" but I think you need a super duper magnifying glass for that.

1/2 unit syringes are typically found in pharmacies, again - online (try HOCKS SUPPLIES] )
but - another but - lol, I've heard, in some states you do need a prescription for syringes.

When you switch to a new vial - watch the numbers, fresh juice can pack a punch.

If you order syringes on-line, you don't need a prescription. I order mine from Hocks using the link at the top of the page.

The vials only come in one size -- 10 ml. We buy either the Lantus Solostar pens or cartridges (the glass insert that is in a pen). The pens and cartridges are the same price. They are typically sold with 5 in a box, each containing 3 ml of insulin. I like the pens since there is an outer layer of plastic protecting the insulin. Most of the chain pharmacies will not sell a single pen/cartridge -- they'll only sell a box. If there is a Rite Aid pharmacy in your area, check with them regarding Lantus. One of the people here got an incredible price on the pens once she joined their discount plan.

If you are close to a hospital that has an outpatient pharmacy, I'd call them for prices. Often the hospitals/medical center pharmacies will sell a single pen. Since the pharmacy has to supply their hospital, boxes are being broken apart all the time to send insulin to the hospital floors. If you don't want to spend the money for a box all at one time, this is one possible way to get one or more pens at a time.
