Re: 7/31 Jenks AMPS 100 +6 369 steering question
well . . . yes, over 50 is perfectly safe. the answer to your question depends on the circumstances.
using last night as an example,
252 PMPS
92 +7
72 +8.5
66 +9
60 +9.5
59 +10 (steered)
61 +10.25
70 +10.5
Jenks was pretty well surfing without much movement between +8.5 to +10 - so 1.5 hrs of essentially flat, although a slight decline in that time. If it weren't the middle of the night, i'd have let the cycle play out and seen if he got below 50. I don't think there was anything wrong with what you did, and needing to sleep is as good a reason as any for giving high carbs! But . . . one good habit to get into is when Jenks gets into green numbers, you want to get him surfing as long as possible. Some cats respond very well to getting 2 teaspoons (literally) of low carb food. That's just enough to help them coast along without dropping more. He may have risen with just some regular lc food instead of the hc last night. the advantage of that is that it the least you have to give to keep them safe, the more likely you're not going to see a reaction to having been overcarbed.
Saying all that, though, i'm not meaning to criticize. i think you did fine. I'm just responding to your question about whether or not you should've intervened.
In a different scenario, say Jenks was 272 at pmps and at +1 he was at 172, i'd have suggested intervening to slow down his drop. A cat that drops too fast (more than about 50/hr) may bounce simply from the speed of the drop. Intervening in that case is helpful, even though you're not dealing with low numbers.
btw, the test times in your ss cells aren't visible where you have a lot of testing. you can reduce the font to fit it all in. you might find it helpful to put more extensive notes in your comments section so the next time you run into this situation you can look back and see what you did that worked.
