7/27 Copernicus AMPS=100 (need advise)

Copernicus went to ER for cystitis last night and he was transferred to NC State vet school. I missed the update and I am panicking. They said his BG was 100. He has never been that low. And now they won't let me talk to anyone because they are busy. I don't think they are feeding him enough. Or maybe they are only feeding him with his insulin instead of every 3 hours. Or maybe a student gave the wrong dose. What should I do?!

As to what to do about the 100 - celebrate! Finally! Is NCSU reasonably close to you? You could always pack up some of his food and drop by with it. It's harder to ignore someone at the front desk than on a phone.

If he isn't getting fed often enough, he develops ketones. I could probably get his BG low too if I starved him too. I know I sound dramatic but it's taken me a lot of effort to clear his ketones. And I did that by feeding him
 
Is it possible he's not eating as much at the hospital? That's a good excuse to stop by with his food. I was trying to be positive that he's finally getting into better blood sugar numbers.

I know you are. It's good that I have you all to be positive! I need to learn to celebrate. Everything has been an expensive fire drill so my mind goes to the worst place. Plus I don't like not knowing what is going on. If I don't hear something soon, I will use your food idea. Thank you.

He's highly sedated and they are still flushing his kidneys. They anre holding his insulin. I don't believe he's actually low because he was high at the first vet before being transferred. My guess is they didn't calibrate the Alphatrek est strips and it's giving a false reading. And he needs insulin. But no one will listen to me that that's a possibility. He was high at the first ER, he has been high for the last 120 days, and now just one reading is low and they are not giving him his 19 units. It doesn't make sense. Thank you for checking in.

How could they not do another test with a different meter to double check???!!!!
That’s insane. He needs insulin (as long as another meter verified what’s going on!)

He's being taken care of by students and a first year resident! I visited him and I didn't even think about testing him myself when I had him in the room. The meter not being calibrated didn't occur to me until this morning. But the cat has been on insulin for 170 days and all of a sudden he's not in ANY insulin. I called this morning to ask to page the doctor and she said she would call back after rounds.

That was a very good thing you had that realization to question it.

Can call and ask them to check him with a different meter in the meantime as you wait for the doc to call you?
And now take a meter with you when you visit if anything seems “off” from what they are telling you!! 🤯

I called and emailed and they won't let me past the gatekeeper. They also have some policy that if you call too many times in a short period of time it's harassment.
