Hi Lantus Land!

Yesterday's HX: Tigger got a 35 min. early dose (due to Spankey's surgery) yesterday AM, & stayed in the high 200-low 300's all AM cycle. We shot 5 min. early for the Pm shot. His PM +1 was 222, & he just sailed into blue & EVEN touched GREEN momentarily before going back to low blue. Looks like he's had a good 8 hours in healing colors for the first time since his dx 5/15!!!! flip_cat flip_cat flip_cat

First time he hasn't bounced (yet), too, so maybe he's getting used to the drops? Even though we've been high & level the last few cycles, maybe we were adding to the depot - Tigger's numbers aren't bouncing into the 400's as previously.

Tigger's +10= 129; +11 = 154, so we may zoom up in the next .75.

Since this may be my first blue shoot, I just want to check that we're right on shooting the full 2.0 units? His +1 & +1 usually seem to be lower than the PS, or a small amount higher, so I think he has a good overlap.

PS: Spankey, Tigger & I want to thank EVERYONE for all the support & kindness touching in re. Tigger's brother Spankey. He had a rough start in surgery yesterday (just before leaving I was feeding Tigger for his insulin & 3 y/o Grandson, looking for Ga-Ga, let Spankey in the room. Spankey promptly ate Tigger's food; we found him standing over the empty bowl licking his chops. Gulp! Luckily, The specialist said they could still do the surgery- they gave him an anti-emetic & aspirated his stomach. The results - a large foxtail entered his mouth below the tongue, traveled along the jawline, down the neck, crossing over to the other side & coming up at the shoulder. Luckily there was NO fungus as they had feared, & no other weird stuff in the goopus!!! The surgery ended up being half the cost, too, as a result!!! Our vet was v. apologetic that something so weird in presentation turned out to be so simple. We're actually really glad about that, considering what it could've been!) So we have a Franken-kitty with a large drain tube wearing baby t-shirts running around a little hyper due to the pain meds - but on the mend! Thanks for all the healing vines - I know it all helped! :RAHCAT :RAHCAT

ALL GOOD NEWS SO FAR FROM OUR HOUSE!

Re: 7/24 Tigger +11/154 -dosing < 200 1st time! +Spankey's

Hi Suzanne! Great news about Spankey! And Tigger is lookin' good!!! It's great to see the numbers coming down, isn't it??

Just wanted to stop by and say hi! Have a great day.

Re: 7/24 Tigger +11/154 -dosing < 200 1st time! +Spankey's

I think you should be fine to shoot unless you see that the numbers at AMPS are dropping. If they are, please post.

What a relief to hear that Spankey is OK. I much rather find out that there is less to be worried about than more!

What a great report for both kitties!
Sending healing vines to Spankey.
Have a great day!

Wow! Great news on Spankey and it looks like Tigger is starting to like Lantus.

OMG on the foxtail though. Now I get to worry about Emma being out so much!

Such great news on Spankey !! So glad it turned out well :-D

Re: 7/24 Tigger +11/154 -dosing < 200 1st time! +Spankey's

Thanks, everyone!

Went ahead & did a regular dose, thanks for the validation.

Looks like I spoke prematurely - Tigger's got a bounce at +1 = 303. AMPS was 211. If we can stay out of the red, that's continued improvement!

Re. Foxtails & cats - the vet said they can go pretty much anywhere - she's had them in the spine even. Lungs are also v. bad. But - when we have ferals, their quality of life is rooted in the outdoors. So - its a compromise. Spankey's already yelling & scratching to go out - he'll be 'in jail' for 7 days - hope we all survive!

Re: 7/24 Tigger +11/154 -dosing < 200 1st time! +Spankey's

I've found them in Emma's fur , but never knew they could get burrowed into the body like that. Emma showed up in January, she too will not put up w/ being an indoor cat, although she has accepted being closed up at night, sort of.

Re: 7/24 Tigger +11/154 -dosing < 200 1st time! +Spankey's

I agree re Emma, her quality of life is important, & making her stay indoors when her heart & being long for outdoors might affect your relationship. As she ages, she may appreciate 'in' more. We're definitely going to encourage Spankey to come in for 'afternoon naps' - he is 10, after all! ;-)

There was really no sign - no pawing at the mouth, no coughing, no drooling (except a small amt. when he collapsed). Some will work their way to the surface, but Dr. S. said they can also change course & point back in - best to get them out.

I know that cats' tongues don't work well with burrs & foxtails - their ridges keep things going in & make it more difficult for them to spit them out, especially something like a foxtail. Just luck of the draw, I gues

We have a number of rescued ferals that are outdoor cats, and this is the only time its happened, tho' our dogs got them in their feet quite a bit. (One dog years ago got one in his penis - ohmygod_smile - the vet thought it was cancer because he was so young - we were lucky then, too, but didn't even live around foxtails then!)

Tigger's cruising back to 104 @ 5.5 - maybe even hit green at 4+. @nd cycle in a row - this could be a breakthrough!

Re: 7/24 Tigger +11/154 -dosing < 200 1st time! +Spankey's

You mean the foxtail grass did that to civie Spankey?!!! Wow. Had to look it up. Never heard of it before.

So glad to hear the surgery was successful and found the issue. Hope you can eradicate that grass from where you live so it never happens again.

Re: 7/24 Tigger +11/154 -dosing < 200 1st time! +Spankey's

Thanks, Deb, but not a chance, we're pretty rural here. Black bear on porch stoop a week ago.

Yes, foxtails can be deadly. Spankey's in the doghouse this evening - he pulled his drain tube out. Bad kitty.

Tigger also broke his winning streak of 9 days below 400+. We had a green nadir of 78 +7 & PMPS was 465! Whodathunk? :YMSIGH:

Hope he revisits the green again tonight - or more likely I'll get to sleep.

Re: 7/24 Tigger +7/78; PMPS/465 -Tigger BOUNCED! +Spankey's

I think that bounce is a good reason to get a before bed test and then get some sleep.

Re: 7/24 Tigger +7/78; PMPS/465 -Tigger BOUNCED! +Spankey's

I'm guessing you'll get a good night's sleep tonight. That big a bounce probably won't clear overnight.

I really didn't know about horsetails before this either, i went out and looked, we have them and then there are all the open fields next door, which is where ours came from!

Re: 7/24 Tigger +7/78; PMPS/465 -Tigger BOUNCED! +Spankey's

Yes, I'm hoping to slip into bed asap - one last hot pak on Spankey. Last night Tigger took me completely by surprise (had to test him twice I didn't believe it the first time) & I was exhausted from Spankey's week.

I don't think foxtails are a common problem for cats - more so for dogs: ears, noses (they're always sniffing at the ground), & paws. Cats are more rare - but hey - it happens & is a good reason to maybe check them over when they come in. It's likely Spankey was eating something he caught right in a patch of foxtails. He just never gave us any indication, drat. Some are several inches long - nasty!

Thanks, ALL!
