Today is starting high but yesterday - most of the day was low. I might have done a slight fur shot because he was slightly damp at the site. I did decide not to give more because of yesterday and the odd numbers.

No ketones this AM

strange day. Seemed to go ok with numbers - in 300's, then at +9 416. I really am not catching on to this or maybe it is just the way Harley is.

I am going on another vacation for 4 days and have a vet student staying nights. My neighbor gives the shots. Last time I had a vet student in, Harley would not let her come near him. I am afraid of his going hypo at night.

it's not unusual for numbers to be higher for a couple of days after a low number. Harley might just be bouncing off the low numbers. It will clear out on it's own.

I see that you gave a unit of R at +10 and that he is dropping at +2. +2 is usually about the same as PS, so since he is dropping I would definitely get a +3. The insulin is usually just starting to kick in around +2 to +3, and he has gone green from numbers higher than this before.

When are you leaving on your vacation? I would drop the dose when you're gone, especially if he can't be tested.

have you used R before? 1 unit is a big dose of R. Usually people here start with 0.1 units and test to see how that does, then increase very slowly. Generally speaking, a cat who doesn't have a condition causing insulin resistance should not use an R dose that big. Of course there are exceptions, but be careful. R is a powerful drug.

An 80 point drop at +10 is too much drop, you want to use R just to hold Harley flat until the Lantus kicks in. Big drops like that will cause bigger bounces.

eta: never mind, I see that you have used large doses of R before. Just be careful. Hourly tests at +1, +2, +3 after R are a good idea until you know Harley's R onset, nadir, and duration.
