7/21 Buddy AMPS 116 +4 77

I see Buddy has Selegiline added to his daily routine. What is that for? And how is he in general now?

Also, at Buddy's size of dose, I wouldn't bother skinnying or fattening the dose, but go for full 0.25 unit changes.
 
The Selegilline is for dementia symptoms. He does a lot of pacing and a lot of staring.

Overall, he is thin and weak and cannot gain weight. We had blood work done again last friday and his SDMA numbers went up but other numbers stayed the same or went down (i need to finish entering them into his chart)

He is getting shots of Solensia still and that seems to have helped a bit but the neuropathy in one of his back legs is very bad and didn't change with anything we were giving him - we gave zobaline for several months and no change at all.
 
I hope the Selegiline helps, though it's early days. Keep us posted how that goes, as it's the first time I've seen a cat on it.

Has Buddy had an ultrasound of his GI system to see if there is something going on there preventing him from gaining weight? Or even a GI blood panel? Some pancreatitis kitties are low in B12, and low in that can mean absorption issues.
 
@Wendy&Neko - we have not done a GI blood panel but will request this. He hasn't had pancreatitis since his diagnosis in Jan 2022 but we'd like different blood work done, to see if there's something else going on. If we got numbers of concern, we'd do an ultrasound.

He's having so many issues lately, including going outside the box, disoriented, losing weight, eating but meals taking a really long time. Just trying to keep him stress-free and comfortable. Sadly, he may just be getting old, quickly. :(

Every day I look at my boy Hendrick and try to thoroughly appreciate him as he is right now, totally healthy and happy other than being a diabetic feline in remission. I know time marches on and I empathize so much with you guys and Buddy, I know that someday I may be in the same boat with Hendrick, and ultimately have to say goodbye.

Buddy is very lucky that he has you two looking after him and trying to give him a high a quality of life as you can, even as his age works against you.
 
@Hendrick Cuddleclaw - thank you. to me, he's not even old, he's just 13. I had a cat that lived 19+ years, and was so lucky because the only health issue he had was a bad tooth at 17.

We will and are doing everything we can for him. This has not been easy on us or him. My heart breaks a little when i see him because he's the shell of the cat he used to be. :(

BUT yes, cherish every moment. They are all truly such special animals and I adore him and his brother so much.

I totally get it, even as I was typing the bit about age working against him I was thinking of our 15-year-old, Roxy, who still has zoomie fits about the house and smacks the younger boys around when they annoy her. And thinking to myself... 13 is old?

It is one of the things I find so very hard about loving cats --- you can have an old 13 or a young 15. And it seems like you never know what you're going to get. Just gotta love em as much as we can!
