Morning ~O) ~O) All is well with Maggie, lots of chatter last night and toys in different places. I remember getting up one time and carrying her off to bed. When awakening and stumbling into the living room, there was Mags dead asleep on the footstool of the recliner. Devon, unfortunately no poo party yet, but it's still early here in CA! I probably should have given her the Slippery Elm Barb twice a day but only gave her one dose at night. Maggie really has a tight clench though when I attempt the syringe, so I may need to resort back to Miralax. Last night some of it ran down her chest. If anyone has any thoughts, I'd love to hear them on how to syringe or a youtube video. I do give a treat afterwards. She doesn't seem that stressed, just looks at me wild eyed, like what the heck! We willl have temps in 80's and high humidity, so I plan on running errands early. My NV Raw Organic chicken arrived at PetPeople, so a trip towards the beach will be my last errand. I'll take a cooler pak with some ice to keep it cold. There's an In'n'Out Burger nearby! :-D
Healing vines to all kitties needing them.

Re: 7/20 Maggie AMPS 133

C'mon, Mags...we need some Zoomies! When we do liquid meds here, we scruff the cats, but the way we do it, it's a two person job....sorry, I know that's not much help! I know my business partner semi-scruffs her cat, and does it by herself. She approaches him from behind, grabs his scruff, lifts him a bit, and squirts the meds in. She does it so fast that it's done before he knows what happened. Before she figure out that this works for him, he was pretty hard to medicatel.

Have a great day, Ann!

Re: 7/20 Maggie AMPS 133

Thanks Amy on the how to medicate liquids. I never thought to use the scruff! I think I could handle a quick grab of the scruff and squirt it in, as it's such a small amount. It's not bad tasting either, as I tried a taste of the paste.

I was surprised at the drop, as she's been eating a lot this morning but all Wellness Turkey! I keep thinking I'm on the ATrak and Mags is getting a reducie!

Re: 7/20 Maggie AMPS 133; +4 60

In the lagoon I see  Hopefully Maggies will give your permission to get your errands done and enjoy a treat at the In n Out burger

When I syringe feed Ella, I wrap a towel around her neck like a bib then I sit behind her and gently open her mouth to give her little squirts. This way she doesn't get food all over her and the towel makes her feel like she can't escape. Takes some practice but I can do it on my own now.

Good luck!

Re: 7/20 Maggie AMPS 133; +4 60

Thanks much Tamara, that is also a great way of getting the med into her. It looks like I may need to do twice a day.

It looks like Maggie will have a nice surf. I was hoping to get an early start and may just leave a little FF Turkey & Giblets to keep her going.

Re: 7/20 Maggie AMPS 133; +4 60; +5 68

What a nice Green day!!! Good job, Maggie!

To syringe liquid meds is very easy for me Ann. You know how kittens suckle? They suck from the side of the mouth where there are no big teeth in the way, the spot where there is a gap after (behind) the large canine teeth, and they just bring that tiny nipple inside and gum it or chew it as the case may be. Well the syringe has a tiny little nipple on it too. That's really all that needs to be all the way in the mouth and the lips should be around a little bit more to keep it from spilling out. I put that little bit in and gently push it in and Racci chews on it like a baby suckling and I speed it up then. I can give up to 4 syringes full that way before she gets too cranky to give any more.

Never aim straight back! Shoot it towards the side. It's dangerous! You could choke her, get water in the lungs, etc. Just shoot towards the back of the sside of the mouth.

I do this 2-3x every day with Miralax and Cosequin.

SoCal Surfer Girl! Well done Maggie! You'll get used to the differences in the meters in no time, You're used to seeing them in other condos.

Is there a reason you can't add it to her food? I'v never tried SEB, but do use Miralax and Guar Gum for Tess. Se doesn't notice any difference.

Re: 7/20 Maggie AMPS 133; +4 60; +5 68

Whoa, Mags! And that's on the Alpha Trak? You are a wild girl today.

Here is a great video from the Feline Assisted Video group on syringe feeding: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6o17wH6ujk. I don't remember how to imbed the video link. That is an interesting explanation of why the syringe tip works better in the side of the mouth.

We give Zener and Tillie about 1/16t of miralax dissolved in water then put with their food, once or twice a day, depending on what they need.

Hi everyone and thanks for visits while I was out running errands. I gave Maggie some FF T&G after the 73 and glad I did, as she ate it but not the Wellness.

Thanks very much Melanie, that is a very interesting and informative description of how it's done. Yes, definitely towards the side and small doses is what I was trying. I wish I had a pic of her clenched jaw! :-D

Hi Ann & Tess, the SEB seems kind of gritty is reason some here mix it with water and it turns into a paste and syringed. When I did use Miralax, I added it to her food and added water. I just picked up Maggie NV Raw Organic chicken patties and am anxious to try.

Liz, thanks for the video and going to watch shortly. Mags is a wild girl today. I knew there was hope for this dose. Yes, I still am thinking in terms f AT numbers. When I saw the 60 this morning, I thought reducie! No such luck yet! :-D

I was thinking of adding the paste to the food, not the powder.

Surprising that Mags stayed this low as she had some FF T&G!

Ann & Tess, thanks I may give that a try since Mags is so sensitive to her mouth. It's tasteless, so she may not notice. She really does a mean clench when the Vet examines her teeth.

Re: 7/20 Maggie AMPS 133; +4 60; +5 68; +7 73; +9 107; PMPS

Please Please give Maggie 1/8 tsp of the Miralax all at once with her meal, so she can go poo!!! It is gentle & works so well--I had Copper on it for several yrs, and Moonie and well... Just try one day--It really works, nothing to harm the cat at all!!
I would never tell you something will work for sure unless I had tried it myself..

Very nice day today...some nice green numbers too!--Sending Hugs & Love from us!

Thanks Roni, will do it. I just had a call from the Vet about some other matters, and he said give the Miralax. Yes, it is very gentle.

Hi Ann.
Lovely day for Maggie

I hope the Miralax works well in her food. That's what my DD does for her kitty and it works quickly and gently. She uses 1/4 to 1/8 teas.

+2 92

Gosh, I normally don't do a +2 check but am expecting company. I did not expect a drop, so I've given her some FF T&G.

Thanks Barb and I think tomorrow we will have a poo. She did a little yesterday but not a normal one.

Hi Ann,
Wishing you good luck with the Miralax. If it works for so many of the kitties, it will work for Maggie, too. Rusty is very happy that Maggie enjoyed some FF T&G today. T&G works all kinds of miracles!!

Have a good evening. I hope Maggie likes her new, raw chicken. Keep us posted on that.

Nice numbers today, Maggie!

Maggie is having a really nice day.

I know what you mean about the clenched jaw. Racci will do that too when she's had enough. I don't press it since she's so good about it usually but sometimes if I rub it gently back and forth on her lips she'll let me in. Oh, forgot to say, I give the methyl b12 that way also. She gets about 12 syringes of meds altogether each day. Racci won't take pills and is extremely fussy about food so nothing can be hidden in it.

Liz, that's a great assisted feeding video.

Hi Ann, I also give Daphne Miralax, I dissolve it first in water about 1/8tsp. and then add it to her food, and since her food is a pate, I make it very watery, (as others here have told me to do), and she doesn't notice it at all. The extra water in her food helps, because like I said, people here said they need extra water because the Miralax pulls water from inside their body to soften the poo.

Maggie looks great today! Thanks so much for visiting us all the days of the trial, it means a lot!

Have a great night!

Beautiful day, Maggie!!!

Just remember when you syringe that you do want to shoot the SEB liquid into the side of her mouth and up to the roof. I like Tam's suggestion of doing a burrito....that's how I start with my cats when they are kittens and they learn quickly.

Hope she starts having some magical poos with the SEB.

HI Ann - sorry t be so late in visiting... I hope by now the magical poos have appeared in the LB. It sure has been a nice day for Maggie - love the Numbers!

Did you go to In'n'Out? Love that place!

I hope your day has been a good one.
