Good morning LL,

I gave the cats raw chicken chunks for dinner last night and breakfast this morning. They have both eaten raw chicken all their lives. It's both of their favourites. I believe Angie ate hers last night but I didn't see her finish it so it's possible that Jetzin got the rest.

This morning Angie refused her +9/3 am breakfast. I tried to hand feed her but she kept spitting out the chunks or just licking them. I broke them into little pieces and she eventually ate it all by licking them off my fingers.

I cut up her am/6 am breakfast so that she wouldn't have to chew much but she won't eat it.

Now I'm thinking that her teeth might be the issue. Could a sore tooth make her drink more? The very said she had some ? on her teeth but they weren't bad and he didn't think they needed a clean yet. She does have bad breath though. She's never had a dental. Her teeth have always been good before but she is almost 17.

Last night I asked if we could start an OTJ trial. If she won't eat, I'm skipping again this morning. Any thoughts on that trial for this evening?

Yesterday's condo is here.

Thank you Rhiannon, Devon, Jane and Michelle for your visits yesterday. I'll reply to you later this morning after I go back to beef for a bit. :-)

Re: 7/17 Angie ambg=106 - teeth and otj trial?

I'm just waiting for the vets to open now. Angie has vomited, had four little bouts of diarrhoea and has been straining a bit. I think she might be constipated. Very stinky and all in my bedroom. She's now hiding under the bed.

awww, poor Angie.

I would wait and see what the vet says today before deciding on a trial. It would be nice to get her eating normally and then see what her numbers do.

Any report back from the vet? I would think that a dental may be something to consider. Stinky kitty breath is generally an indication that something is off with teeth.

Re: 7/17 Angie ambg=106 - teeth and otj trial?

I've left Angie with the vet. They are going to keep her until her bladder gets a bit bigger so that they can get another urine sample to send of with her blood. She just went on my bedroom floor prior to leaving the house.

The vet suspects kidney issues but he's checking thyroid and "ruling out a few other things". He doesn't think it's her teeth. He said that we could do a dental if the blood work doesn't explain things. He said a lot and I got a bit confused but I think that they also don't want to give her a general without seeing her test results. He is more interested in sending her urine of for culture and sensitivity then cleaning her teeth but that test is $150 on its own. I feel hesitant to do that at this point on top of the appointments and blood tests.

He said that there was something on her teeth - but I can't remember what? It looked a bit brown near the gums. He said it wasn't bad and he wouldn't normally recommend a clean for that level. She didn't seem to have bad breath at the vets. Maybe she's burping something smelly instead of her having bad smells in her mouth. She doesn't seem to smell all the time - mostly when she gets upset over me testing her.

Jetzin is slinking around the house fearfully. He always does this when she's missing - he doesn't want me to pat him but he looks so scared.

I asked him about a remission trial and he said "one thing at a time". He doesn't want me to give her insulin while she's not eating as much unless her blood glucose goes up really high. So that means that she's getting a mini otj trial until she's eating better and then I am to decide if she is to have an official remission trial based on what her bg has done in the mean time. He said that it appeared that she could be ready for remission but he wouldn't rule out other factors influencing her blood sugar while she's not well. (I thought that you guys might say something like that anyway.)

So I am to keep monitoring even while I'm not giving her insulin and be prepared that she might need to go back on. He said I should monitor enough so that I can put her back on insulin within a day of getting higher BG levels to keep her progressing towards remission. He said after a while of doing that, minimum till we know what's wrong and she seems better, I could monitor less frequently - maybe weekly. (Sounds like a mix of good sense and the advice you give to everyone on an otj trial to me.)

Sorry they felt they had to keep Angie. I hope they can work it all out and she gets to feeling better soon! Glad she has good numbers. At least that's something. Sending good health vines your way too - dealing with both of these issues at the same time can't be easy. Hugs across the water!
