Yesterday http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=75039 was another mostly blue day with a bit of green.

7/16 Recap:
AMPS: 318 +3 286 +5 213 +8.5 86 +9 85 +1 133
PMPS: 150 +2 192 +3.5 161 +6 165

Not looking so good today. But yesterday I needed the comfort that Neko's numbers gave me. The pity party stopped last night and now we are working on an action plan now that I know what is causing Neko's numbers/dose. I'm diving into research so may not visit as many condo's as usual.

I hope all are well, we are back to sunny weather and Neko is letting me get some errands/reading done today.

ETA: meant to thank those who posted last night/this morning in my condo.
@Melanie - the reasons for getting the test were the dose amount, and the fact that Neko doesn't seem to hold green. We first saw green at 3.75 units and are now at 8.25. Research studies say that between 1 and 1.5 times the weight of your cat in kg is a dose at which you should be looking for other causes.

@Linda - thanks for the support from someone in the same ball game as me. We are a rare bunch with very precious gems as cats.

@Pip - what a difference a couple of days makes!

Hi guys .. no worries on the pity party, we all have those from time to time! Good luck with all your research .. remember, a lot of this is trial and error so hang in there!

Re: 7/16 Neko AMPS 297 +3 351

good luck with the research! nice to see the sun back too. in a way, it's good to know WHY the numbers are so high at least! and Neko obviously likes the attention that is geing generated! hang in there!

Hi Wendy, I do the same thing. I always need that pity party first, it kind of jump starts me into action, then, everybody out of my way, cause I dive right into research mode. I've been sick for 30 years, and I always did my own research on my illness because the Drs. were never up to all the new research. So good luck on that. I did do research on FD when Daphne was dx, and it was interesting because every time I typed in google, this site came up as the best. So I probably learned the most just from this site alone.

Good luck, stay strong, and I hope Neko will feel better as his numbers are under control.

+6.5 224
I've noticed a new pattern on Neko. She goes up after PS and the onset seems to be later than it used to be, as well as the corresponding nadir. Not all the times of course, but occasionally, just enough to keep me on my toes.

@Devon - I feel like I'm back in school working on a term paper again!

@Pip - Neko definitely likes the attention, she's at my feet snoozing again. Yeah for sunshine and not too hot!

@Barb - the internet is so wonderful. What did people do even 10-20 years ago? Rely on their medical staff I guess. You are right, this site and the people here are the best!

@Lu - got your message on yesterday's thread - I've left a message at CSU. Starting the steps and the same time I'm researching. You'll have fun limiting Grayson's food to small portions tonight!

Hey Wendy,

Just got caught up on your condo and the dx for Neko. Sorry I wasn't around to support you during the pit party. It's nice to hear that you've already begun to move forward in with your preliminary research, that's an amazing start!

We're here for you :YMHUG:

Hi Wendy and Neko,

I just read your condos from yesterday and today and want to add my support to everyone else's. You and Neko can deal with this. You just need to sit back, breathe, and be happy in the knowledge that your kitty is your wonderful kitty. Take your time with all the reading. When you get to feel overwhelmed, go for a row! We are with you every step of the way on this new adventure.

Big Hugs,

Ella & Rusty

hey! you mean punkin and neko are on matchy doses for today? i didn't realize! actually we dropped his dose tonight because of his pmps - not sure what he's doing at the moment.

i feel your passion, wendy! you go girl! neko is so lucky to have you as her bean. sympathizing on the reading . . . . i know there's a ton, but you'll come out of it so prepared. i felt like i was taking a college course too - crash course that is.

Lu's right on the percentage increases. balance that information with what you know about neko and go with dose increases that seem to make a difference in her BG responses while still being in your comfort zone. she's had this tumor all along, so you have a lot of data on how she responds to insulin. her basic patterns are her patterns, so what you know about her is still true. does that make sense?

for example, i felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me with punkin's diagnosis, and it took me a while to realize that he basically responded the same as he had before. i could trust what i already knew about him. yes, his insulin needs changed with the tumor output, but even the change was somewhat predictable.

Wendy, I'm glad you're feeling a little better today and starting the tedious process of research. Neko's numbers really aren't that bad right now so you aren't that far away from getting in front of it I would think. Of course, I've only done limited reading on it about 2 years ago when I suspected Racci was insulin resistant. I couldn't get her out of the 300's until she was on 5u! Of course she was also eating dry food and was a big girl, but still it was worrisome.

I hope tomorrow is an even better day for him and for you. Keep strong. You can do this.

Hugs,
Melanie & Racci

PMPS 269
Another new thing for Neko, both AMPS and PMPS yellow! She's had one or the other yellow or blue, but then the opposite one would be red or pink. Somehow this seems like a bit more progress. Her curve is definitely flattening. Still TBD where this goes and whether we go up dose in the morning. Part of me would like to be back on the half unit lines.

The help my piece of mind, I went rowing tonight. Bumpy water, but a good way to expend some energy! DH made dinner while I was gone. He told me he turned his back for just a couple of seconds, and Neko was on the counter and headed into some of the dinner ingredients. What she didn't know was that there were dried Thai chili peppers in them! Good thing he caught her in time.

@Tamara - knowledge is power and I'm immersing myself in that knowledge now. From all I've read, the sooner you get SRT the better. Looks like DH and I might have a summer trip after all! Thanks for being here.

@Ella - lots of rowing in my future! If not, I'm a five minute walk from a set of mountain forest trails. Exercise is great for calming down and thinking. So many supportive people here really helps.

@Julie - I really like the perspective that nothing has changed in Neko and her responses should be the same. I hadn't thought about it that way and it's very reassuring. Although this flatter cycle and less high numbers I'm seeing lately is a change I'm OK with  I've left a message for CSU and got a pet sitter lined up, so raring to go.

@Melanie - you are so right on the tedious part of research. You just start reading something and head off on another tangent. So much to learn. Amazing the difference some dry food made to Racci. I put Neko on raw fairly early on in the process. Before her FD diagnosis she was on 1/2 Wellness wet and 1/2 half bad stuff ("lo cal" dry) so switched to wet only right away. There are a lot of things that can contribute to higher doses and it was a matter of eliminating them one at a time.

Re: 7/16 Neko PMPS 269

Night time rowing? There is no mosquitoes during that period?

Come down Neko! Rosy's dived to the green waiting for you!

+3 298
Either going up or delayed onset. In either case, I think I'm OK for bed. Ni ni!

@Helen - evening rows are from 7-8:30. There may have been mosquitoes but we move too fast for them. I think Rosy will have to wait for Neko another time.

Coming late to this, sorry I missed things.
Hi Wendy! I'm sorry you've got a bit of research mountain to climb... You can do it!
All the best to you and Neko in this new phase of your progress!
Jane
