I was all ready to give better news about Alex but I guess this is going to go back and forth for a little while. At dinnertime last night I was at the refrigerator and he came over (which he does even if only because of a mild interest) so I decided to shake the "Liv-a-Littles" jar for the heck of it and he started climbing up my leg! I offered him one and he grabbed and ate it. Then two and three! So I put some Recovery in his bowl and sprinkled some on top and he ate most of it and then had some ff appetizer later on. I WAS SO RELIEVED because at the same time my vet was delivering to me some stuff for Jackson(injectable Pepcid and Baytril cause we decided that to give him anything else orally was not a good idea) who was as sick as I have ever seen any living creature. Jacky had been given Reglan in the AM and it had done nothing for him. I gave him Flagyl which I think made it worse because it was oral, and he had a shot of Centrine like 10 hours after the Reglan and THAT did nothing to stop his nausea or intestinal activity. I gave him fluids at about 9PM and a shot of Pepcid and Baytril and the vomiting bile and bloody diarrhea (if you can call it that-it was more blood than anything else. Not LARGE amounts but I guess he irritated the heck out of his rectum.) continued until around 2:30AM. Jackson was so disoriented from all of this that he could hardly stand up straight. He was gurgling and making pathetic noises and purring when I went to him which was often(not good purring). He had/has the bile and blood on his paws and he smells and I didn't think he was going to make it through the night. I stayed in the living room and slept a little, cried a lot and prayed a lot and I didn't think God was listening... but I guess he/she was because amazingly my little boy is still here today sound asleep on the floor next to me.
He hasn't had anything to eat or drink for over 48 hours.well hadn't. This morning when I gave Alex his medications I gave him some syringes of water and Jackson wanted some too so I let him have a drop (with much fear). He has had his fluids and antibiotic. The Pepcid lasts for 24 hours. And the vet came over about an hour ago and gave him probiotic and a little baby food in a syringe and so far he has kept it down. I know we have a long way to go but I wasn't sure I'd be writing this today...and I am so grateful that I am.
On the flip side, Alex has decided not to want to eat again so he was syringe fed again this morning
I guess he will decide that he wants to eat again when he wants to. He still has some diarrhea also and I'm going to give him some probiotic in a little while. And maybe last night was very traumatic for him also.
