Yesterday's Condo
Well, we went to the new vet today, and I am not really impressed, but I did try to download 7 ½ years of data to him in a 45 minute appointment. I think I overwhelmed him. LOL! I need to have all the documents transferred to him from the other vet and he wants the spreadsheet printed out. YIKES! that is going to be a lot of paper.
He said he would look over the medical records and the spreadsheet. I told him that I don't expect him to jump in and make dosing suggestions, I mostly want a vet that I can bounce ideas off of and more of a professional opinion.
He did a round of blood work, I think he did a CBC, but the cost was only $48 and it just said t4 on the receipt. I will talk to him tomorrow about the results. He said that if Sammy's thyroid was out of whack that could be what is causing the rest of him to be off kilter.
I did talk to him about a frutosamine test, but we decided against it because I do enough testing to see what his numbers are. I thought it would tell me if he was dropping too low and then spiking up.
Other than that Sammy is doing good today. He has some slightly higher numbers this evening, which I am is from the 42 last night. I am holding the .25 unit dose for now. I work tomorrow but will be home between +9 and +10. I don't know if I would be able to get home for a mid cycle test tomorrow even though I will be working from my regular office tomorrow, which is only 15 minute away from home. We are having a celebration for a good month and lunch will be served at 11:30 followed by the full on celebration at 1:00 pm. Being a new employee I have no idea what that entails, but I am happy to be a part of it.
Then I will probably be home most of the weekend, and will be able to keep really good tabs on him to see if he goes too low.
Oh, and I think I discovered what could have been at least part of the cause of the higher numbers. So I mostly feed Sammy Friskes Special Diet Turkey & Giblet and sometimes I feed the higher carb higher phosphorous version as well. Well apparently I had forgotten that I had some of the Regular food and I have been feeding it to him the last few days thinking it was the lower carb lower phosphorous food. Oops! I have segregated that food in a different spot so I don't make that mistake again.
I am hoping to be able to get some sleep tonight.
