Not very happy with our AMPS, but she's acting pretty good - I saw her staring into the cage at Blue before breakfast... Then she hissed at him and kind of tiptoed away. She didn't want to eat breakfast - I think all the smells and seeing Blue in the cage are fairly upsetting... But then she ate some breakfast about 3 feet from him, while he was eating his breakfast. I can't believe how much he's eating...

Kasha eventually finished up most of her 2 Tbsp breakfast - had to do the chicken dust thing while she was over in one of her "safe" places. Shot was uneventful - I saw the needle go in and saw and felt it come out of her skin, so that's good.

I had the E collar on Blue all night because he was taking a little too much interest in the incision. He got his front paw stuck thru the collar at one point and I remembered why I hate those collars. But I made it tighter (after removing his paw from the collar) and he wore it all night. I took it off for breakfast.

There seems to be a little more redness on the incision, but it's so hard to tell. He's somewhat tubby, so the incision kind of follows skin folds and it seems to look redder when the skin is folded and then it slightly lightens when he straightens out. I really just don't know what is a problem and what isn't. I'm still not convinced this was the right thing to do.

Kasha that's not a very nice #, I know you can do better.

Don't second guess yourself over Blue, it's scary right now, but this will pass and he'll get better and you both will be happy and peaceful again.

Re: 6/9 Kasha AMPS 497

Hi Krys. I hope Kasha's #'s come down today. I think Blue is doing good this being his first full day home, and eating is a good sign. I bet, too, all the medicine smells caused Kasha to hiss. Have a nice and uneventful day.

Re: 6/9 Kasha AMPS 497

well kasha has company this morning ... mocha is sitting up there with her too .. I hope they both come down for us today ... and I also agree with Iorwen, don't second guess yourself. You took care of Blue.

Re: 6/9 Kasha AMPS 497

I think a little redness around the incision is to be expected. I wouldn't worry too much unless you really see it start to spread away from the wound, or if it starts oozing. My cats often get freaked out when another one comes home covered in "vet stink".

Ok - what have you all done with my girl, Kasha? Huh? There's a cat here who looks like Kasha and acts like Kasha and, well... she's in my house and all. But hello? PMPS of 150? Who am I kidding? This must be an imposter...

BTW, I tested her twice just to make sure and it actually came up 150 both times...

Anyway - imposter cat didn't really want to eat dinner - or else, perhaps she wanted me to hover over her with chicken dust, cuz that's what it took to get her to finish. But finish she did - over 2 Tbsp dinner at the first meal.

And she had her 27th Baytril tonight in a skinnied down pill pocket rolled in chicken dust.

Blue ate all of his first helping before I could even start trying to convince Kasha to finish. So I had to give him more right away. He also peed twice today - once in the lb and once on a pee pad. No poop yet - I called the vet office today and they told me that if he doesn't go by Friday, to give them a call. I said, so what will we do then? And they said "just call". Hmmm... didn't really answer me, but whatever. They also told me not to worry about the changing colors in the area around the incision. it gets really red at times but I found that usually if he moves (or when I've cradling him for meds, etc) the red will often fade from those areas... So, it may just be the positions he's in. Houdini cat also escaped his E collar tonight. He was in it when I got home from work (gone 4 hours) and then I went for a 45 min walk and came back and he was lying on the e collar. Nice. I'm keeping an eye on him.

Got a virus on my computer at work. Awesome - they are taking it tomorrow to reimage. Which means, it will be days before it has everything back to where I need it to be. I have stuff that needs to be done by tomorrow and I will have to try to work on another computer, which won't give me access to most of what I need, but I can get to email and word to recreate the document I need by tomorrow evening. I was all done with it today too, but I can't get anything from my computer now. I swear, if they start pressuring me any more at work this week, I am going to lose it...

Kasha  she sure like to nose dive doesn't she? Wish that imposter could stick around eh? When is her last pill?

Blue - I am so happy for you that he is doing so well. Is he on any pain meds? Depending on what they gave him (they can sometimes cause some constipation.) Last time Webber had surgery they sent him home with a fentanyl patch and it made him not go a couple of days. But he is eating and peeing :RAHCAT It's the little things isn't it?

Have a wonderful evening!!!

Nice PMPS!!! No imposter... just beautiful Kasha!!

Please don't second guess yourself over Blue. Take it one day at the time. We are here to support you! :YMHUG:

ImposterCat and Houdini! If your kitties go missing we'll know what their aliases are! What a great PMPS. You might want to get an early test in to see what Kasha has up her sleeve (or up Blue's collar).

i've been told buprenex can be constipating. we've never encountered that *touch wood* but then i'm prone to be a little heavy-handed with miralax when meowzi's on pain meds.

I've never given miralax to any of them before. How much do you usually give? That's a human laxative, right? Can you just buy it at a drugstore?

I dragged my papasan cushion (large size) into my dining room next to Blue's cage so we can hang out and watch the last episode of Lost together on my laptop... Kasha just came out from behind the couch to check out the cushy digs (and probably because she smelled the plate of food I have in the microwave). About to watch the last half of the last episode now... And it looks like Blue's already asleep. Apparently he wasn't a true fan.

I believe it is a human laxative sold in drugstores in the US. The dose would be 1/4 tsp to 1/8 tsp twice daily mixed into food. Add lots of water to the food. Jojo used to suggest starting at the high end of dosing, and working down to the correct dose, but others prefer to work up gradually. I think it's really up to you. I give it to my civie, and it has worked very well for her.

nice numbers today.

Speaking from experience, try to keep the e-collar on. You know how wounds start to itch really bad as they heal? I had a cat who had part of her tail amputated (she was a rescue, her tail was injured and the owner decided to return her to rescue instead of treating her). She was doing so well, not bothering it at all, so I took the collar off. Then one morning, blood everywhere, bandage off, stitches out. Yuck. There wasn't enough skin left to sew it back up, so they had to amputate a tiny bit more of her tail so they could stitch her up. Poor kitty. That time the collar stayed on the whole two weeks.

Yes, human drugstore. But in your case, seeing that Blue has just come through major surgery, I think you should call the vet and run it by them before you use it. How long has he not gone? Miralax isn't appropriate for stool that's already formed; it's more for prevention.

I agree, it's only been a day since Blue's surgery. I would wait before you worry about him not going. But it's up to you of course ;-)

How is Kasha now? Have you gotten any spot checks? I guess I could look at your ss. I'm being lazy sorry

I'm not going to give the Miralax without some advice from the vet in this case. Normally, I have no problem going off on my own with stuff like that, but major surgery is definitely not a time I want to experiment. His surgery was Monday afternoon - I don't know the last time he had a BM... I know the anesthesia can cause constipation as well. Maybe some food with a little more fiber or something would help... I have Azodyl for Kasha, which is basically a probiotic with psyllium powder in it.

Any spot checks? Are you kidding? On the hour all evening - LOL... It's easier since we're camped out on the papasan cushion and Kasha has been lying next to me for over an hour. I hit pause on the laptop and roll over, test, go back and hit play...
