Yesterday's Happy Dance
Another long day. Cinco had his Dermatology appointment at UCD this morning. I was only 5 minutes late, which is really good for me, especially at that ungodly hour. It was quite an experience. There was one student that was "in charge", but when the vet came in, there was a whole group of students with her, and they had a lesson right there. Cinco was pretty good, only growling once or twice when he was being manhandled for the thousandth time. At one point I was holding him in my lap and he really wanted to get down. As we struggled, one of the students realized that the problem was he had to go poo - and did!
Three people jumped, grabbing towels, etc. and they caught it before it hit my dress (phew), then they cleaned him up and even deodorized him! He was much calmer after that. They took scrapings from his hotspots and looked at slides and the conclusion was that they aren't sure what it is.
They are going with the theory that it is either a bacterial infection, as there was some bacteria on one of the slides, or allergies. They are submitting one of the samples for a fungal culture, and that will take 2-4 weeks to get results. Meanwhile, we came home with an AB (Simplicef), and Revolution, which they want me to switch to from Advantage Multi, as they feel it kills the fleas more quickly (not that he had, or has ever had, any evidence of fleas, but just in case). I am also to give him Zyrtec daily, and bring him back in a month for a recheck. We talked about leaving the Cover Me off of him when I am around to monitor, to see if the meds are helping, so I'll start doing that after a couple of days on the meds. They also did not rule out a food allergy, but that was a ways down the list, to be explored later if current measures don't take care of it.
When we finally got home, I took him out of his carrier and put the outfit back on him, and he was really upset with me, struggling, and scratched my hand (from flailing around, not swatting at me). I got it on and left him alone for about 30 minutes and then fed and tested him (he was perfectly calm and normal). That's when I got that 101! Obviously, stress does not raise his BG!
Minka only ate about half her breakfast this morning at first, but finished it off within an hour. She asked for, and got a snack when I got home, and ate it all. She doesn't seem as eager as yesterday, but she is eating, so I'm pleased. Tomorrow is acupuncture.
Sasha's still got that summer appy, but she eventually cleans the plate, with a little FD salmon added. Harvey got a slow start but has been eating better as the day has gone on.
Another hot day, although not as bad as yesterday. The A/C and ceiling fans have been going non-stop. The Delta breeze, which will cool us off, has returned this evening (it was a HOT wind all day), so I hope to be able to open the windows and turn off the A/C soon. The kitties are all pretty lazy in this heat, although Cinco did go walkabout after his lunch, which caused Harvey some angst. I had to remain on guard the whole time, telling Harvey what a good boy he was and staying within arm's reach of one or the other. He didn't grown or hiss once, just made this little sound I can't really describe, which is usually a precursor to a growl. Cinco returned to his favorite spot unharmed and Harvey went back to this favorite chair in the living room. Crisis averted!
I picked up a copy of Cinco's B/W while I was at UCD and will get those numbers on his SS soon. Hope all are having a good Tuesday.
Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans. Extra vines for Michelle's Elsa and Jamye's Fred.
Prayers and vines to Amy's DF, Marje's DM, Chris' DM and Elise's DM.
