3-year FD Anniversary Post
Good morning everyone!
It has been absolute ages since I've posted, so I imagine most of you will not know me, but I had to post for my buddy Lou's 5-year FD anniversary! Lou almost couldn't be doing better. He has actually made it down to 0.75u currently and is still beautifully regulated on Levemir. Since he kept bouncing and rejecting reductions, we played around with fat doses within the last year, and it seems to have helped him ease into some of these lower doses. I certainly hope he can keep it up, although I have no idea what I'd do if he goes much lower. Learn to deal with it and throw a party I reckon, haha!
After all of the ups and downs, I am so pleased with how well he is doing. He has a checkup next week, but I'm guessing the vet will be happy as well. You can always tell when he is healthy because his coat gets so soft and smooth and just luxurious. Gosh I love that rascal!
Our civvie Bella is still small, but still kicking. She was diagnosed with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) a couple of years ago, but while she's light, she is holding steady on her enzymes and B12 injections. Unfortunately, either due to her EPI or her age (or both), her anxiety has spiraled out of control. She has gone manic at times, pulling out tufts of her hair, and crying like she's dying before every meal. The vet was worried about giving her anti-anxiety medication with the EPI, although only because it wasn't directly mentioned? She gave her this supplement that can calm, and it worked for perhaps a week before Bella went back to tugging out her hair. The vet hadn't wanted to switch her because technically the meds were working.
Anywhoo, I am bringing them both in for their annual physical next week, so I'll be demanding proper anti-anxiety meds. She needs to be able to calm down, as she has enough other stuff going on without needing to worry about food and the attention Lou gets (BG testing, etc.).
As for me, it has been a crazy last few years. I am a medical laboratory technician and I work in a lab. As you can imagine, the last couple of years have been a roller coaster. I have been trying to hang on, but it has been exhausting. Now that the worst is over and I have gotten some help in the lab, I have decided to go back to school to get my 4-year degree in the same field. This will open up some departments and management options to me, so I feel like it's worth the hassle.
I hope you all are doing well and that your kitties are swimming beautifully while staying away from sharks! Here's hoping Lou can continue working that insulin like a pro, and I hope to see you back here in another 5 years!
Many hugs to you all my FD friends! Keep dancing!
