That's yesterday's number... pre-bath ;-)

Yes, that's right... I finally broke down and gave the fatboy a bath. Poor guy is just to rotund to properly groom himself, the fur along his back was greasy and very flaky and brushing just was not doing the job. So, after a quick nail trim, I set everything up in the kitchen (we have a big sink that isn't divided so is much easier than bending over the tub.) I put a towel in the bottom of the sink and put a couple of inches of water in the bottom, had the sprayer ready, the shampoo in a spot easy to grab with one hand and several thick towels ready for drying. Then I fetched the cat.

The instant his toes touched the water he suddenly became the most agile kitty in the world! He twisted and scrambled and the next thing I knew there was 19 pounds of wet po'd cat flying through the house.

Did I mention he's fat? There is no excess skin with which to scruff him.

I found him under the bed, but he didn't go very far under so I was able to scoop him out and carried him back to the kitchen and the torture area. Got him back in the water, turned the faucet back on and started wetting him down. I was serenaded at volumes I did not know he could attain, Tugger is usually a very wimpy meower but he sure found his voice yesterday! With one hand holding him down at the back of his neck I was able to apply the shampoo and commence scrubbing, while Bella hopped up on the counter to check out what was happening and BB yelled at me from the feeding table and Tux sat on the stove observing fearfully (the last time Tug had a bath, Tux got one right after, they were kittens and we'd gotten fleas.) Echo wasn't sure what the heck was happening but it had the big cats upset so he carefully stayed under the feeding table.

I got the scrubbing done, then rinsed him all off (a LOT of shed fur came off) and somehow managed to wrap 19 pounds of pissed off wet cat in a towel and remove him from the sink. Got him mostly dried off before he finally had enough and got loose. Took three towels to get him 80% dry. He is now soft and silky and still po'd at me.

I did NOT try to check his number after the bath. I just did my best to avoid him after I fed him lots of FDCC ;-) He's starting to get over it already though, this morning he let me pet him and sit with him for a while and I think he slept with me last night (hard to know for sure since his fur is so soft now... could have been almost any of them cuddled up to me in the dark!) and he's hanging out near me hoping my guilt will cause me to give him more FDCC. I don't feel that guilty ;-)

As for the rest, he's been doing great =) Keeping nice numbers even while the other cats munch on the drooler's kibble (I have seriously got to figure out a way to cat proof the dog food bowls. It'd be great if the dogs would eat when we put it out but they don't. Brats) Bella and Tux are the worst. They will chase the dogs off the food so they can eat it. I remove the food whenever I catch 'em but they are sneaky and quiet.

Pups are doing great, Isis is about to go into heat I think. We had issues getting money moved so I haven't been able to get her spayed yet. I'll be ordering diapers for her once I hit submit on this post. Not looking forward to this adventure at all.

Love my job =) Love love love it =) I went and got my hair cut short because of the heat, and am loving the hair just as much as I love the job. Getting along with hubby these days ;) Probably because he's in and out so much. He's only been home a couple of days at a time, then they head back out to sea for 3-5 days. It's going to be like this all summer, he hates it but I have to say I kind of like it. I get a chance to miss him a little bit so when he comes back I'm happy to see him... then he leaves again before I have time to get too annoyed ;) It's perfect lol.

I've been around, mostly reading and lurking, but I've been around... I still keep a tab open with FDMB at all times and poke my head in whenever I have a few minutes to read =) I miss the daily condos though. I'll be glad to get Brady here so I can come back ;)

Not much news on Brady's move yet. I hit a roadblock in the process and can't continue till Venita comes back. Well, technically I could but it would cost $100 more. It's weird, the company makes you pay $100 more if the receiver is the payer. So if I set the account up in my name, they will stick us for $100 more than if the "shipper" (or the person who drops him off) pays for the move. It's stupid. But the workaround for it seems to be if Venita sets up the account under DCIN's name, then calls the drop off person an "employee/volunteer" of DCIN. It's strange, but it seems to be the only way to get it done without that extra cost. The company only needs three days to set it up, so waiting for Venita (they ask for certain info on the sign up page that I don't have access to) shouldn't cause too much trouble... I hope! I've gotten a quote though so I'm finally able to go ask for donations in Community. There will be a post up today for that. With any luck, we should be able to get Brady here in a week or so at the most =) *paws crossed*

What a great WCR and update on goings on in your life--I laughed at the bathing story
Glad to hear Tugger is doing so well--We do miss you--Have a great Caturday & HUGS~!

  loved the bath report I just gave Do Lou a bath last week but his was much more laid back he is used to them since he has allergies and used to get sulfur dipped once a month but he still hates them but will at least stand still for me and give me the what do I have to get a bath look  but he was having so much dandruff he is also a fat cat that cannot groom well. So happy you are loving that job nothing better then loving what you do   great number for Tugger today

That is so GREAT that you were able to bathe him....there should be some sort of medal awarded for tht!
Being so large. ahem....it must have made the job a lot harder for you. but, GOOD for YOU Marvie! what a gal!
It is fun reading your reports...miss you for sure! Hugs to you all! :YMHUG:

HI Marvie and Tugger, I was ROFL laughing thinking of you trying to give Tugger a bath! That is so funny!!! So happy to hear Tugger is doing well along with the rest of your furbabies!!! I will be excited to hear about Brady once you get him. I have been lurking a lot too, I was pretty excited to open a condo today!! We had success this morning in the hairball dept, there was a nice big one on the ottoman this morning, I am hoping it was Scrabble!!!

Oh You gotme in stiches listening to the bath report....kudus to you for doing that by yourself, we need 4 hands to bath anyone around here....and welding gloves...and valium (for the beans).

We miss you lots Marvie, hope things start flowing smoother and you can be on here more

Nice number for Tugger, give him a hug from his buddy Max..

PS: My maine Coon is 23 pounds worth of cat, I can sympathise :-D

LOL on the bath story. I hope I never have to do that. I'll look for your post on community about Brady. I would love to help you get him.

Tugger in the tub! What a riot (although it probably did not seem so at the time)! A kitty in a seagoing household with a name like Tugger should be used to water, don't you think?? Great post, Marvie. I'll be watching for your post in Community. Have you had any time to knit???

Ella & Stu (who says hi to his pal, Tugger)

Got the post up last night for Brady's fund raising. *crossing paws* I've never actually made a request for funds before, for DCIN or otherwise, so I'm hoping I did it correctly. Hoping even harder that we get what we need to make this happen.

Brady was taken from the shelter and placed in a foster home while he was being treated for his URI and such, they say he is feeling much better now and is ready for his move =) I can't wait to get him here! I have everything ready for him, the plan is to give him a day or so of quiet time in hubby's room to let him relax after his flight (I'm going to install an air conditioner in hubby's room this week, he's stubbornly held out trying to be manly about the heat but we can't keep a kitty in there without cooling it somewhat so he's getting a darned a/c unit.) I have food here that will be familiar to him and a litter box ready to fill for his personal use while he's in there. I got a dog litter box because it has a shorter step in spot and should be easier on his joints, may have to have hubby come up with some sort of cover for it eventually though because the girls are flingers and I know they will get in and make a giant mess if we don't prevent it. So we're ready here =)

Ella... knitting. Hmm, I vaguely remember that I used to enjoy doing that  I have miles upon miles of gorgeous yarns sitting in drawers and lots of projects planned out in my head... but no time to execute them! That, and the heat. I just can't knit when it's this hot. I might be able to whip out a cotton baby bib or dishcloth if I were tied to a chair and had no chores to do... other than that though, I doubt I'll even think about knitting till October. Maybe September if it cools off. Doubtful though.

Hubby's new boat is begging me to volunteer to be the ship's ombudsman. For those of you who don't know... that person is the Go To Person for all the wives/spouses of the ship's crew. The Ombudsman answers questions, gives advice, and who knows what else, for the new to the navy wives, new to deployment spouses, and spouses who just need to unload. Probably lots more to it than that, there's training involved for the person who accepts the (unpaid) job. This ship is stuffed full of junior enlisted as well as junior officers. It's essentially a training boat. It's only got 400 people on it I think, but most of them are junior. Meaning they don't know squat and neither do their wives. I tried to politely decline this particular honor... but I still got sucked into helping. I won't be ombudsman but I'll still be available to help when it comes closer to time for deployment. I think there's a name for the support group or whatever but I can't recall it right now. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this all.

I am not one of those social navy wives. I don't go to the meetings, I don't join the clubs, I have never even known another wife from any of his boats. I don't know why they want me... just because I'm married to him and have been for 11 years does not automagically make me smart about navy crap lol. What am I supposed to say to whiny navy wives crying because their hubby is gone and they are bummed? My response would be something along the lines of "Suck it up buttercup, this is the Navy life. You have to be Wife and Husband, Mom and Dad, housewife and handyman. Here's the yellow pages. You can use them to look for help with things you don't have the skills to handle yourself. Here's the internet (pretty awesome invention there) you can use it to learn skills you'll need when you can't afford to pay others to do stuff for you. You can also use the internet to look up the answers to all of your questions. That's how I learned. Have great day =)" Probably not the response the navy would like  Yet, somehow... I got sucked in. Shoot me now please?

I put it in Community, but we got what we needed very quickly. I don't think the post was up 12 hours before we had what we needed =)

This week is about to get very busy =) Cross your fingers and send vines for everything to go smoothly now! Third time is the charm right?
