Somebody is asking for something. My crystal ball says dosecrease or (urine culture will tell) more antibiotics. Ugh, I hope not another 10 days of stinging shots.

Her appetite is definitely off but I can't put my finger on it because she just keeps changing what food she'll eat. Currently it's the Fancy Feast tuna flakes so at least that's low carb. I've stopped putting meds in the food because she walks away, then with all the bowls I put down Sam makes a beeline for the one with meds EVERY time! Looks like somebody is edging towards a dosecrease but we'll see. Urine culture tomorrow.

I do have a portable air conditioner which is just about keeping the living room tolerable (80 degrees) as long as you don't do anything too active. We hit 100 the last 2 days and today is supposed to get hotter. I left it running all day yesterday and stayed in making things with the 5lbs of strawberries I picked Friday (it was so hot the ice cream maker didn't work!) There's a ceiling fan in the bedroom but the temp difference is still a shock. Both cats like lying sprawled out on the laminate floor in the same position I like to call 'spatchcock chicken' - stretched out, legs splayed, belly exposed and front paws bent up. But still, Sammy is eating and Minnie not so much.

OMG! Your kitties are so gorgeous! I love that you have a matching pair of them with their beautiful colors. I wanna rub their bellies!

My cats do the lying around on their backs when summer comes around. I recently discovered that Ruby likes being rubbed down with a moist washcloth when she comes home from the hospital to get the scent off her. Maybe Sam and Minnie would like that too for a little cooling off? I hear the temps will be dipping for you a little tomorrow. Stay cool and be safe. ❤️

Paws crossed that the higher BGs aren't because of infection. :( Didya hear the dosecrease threat, Mins? Mom needs to see some blues and greens, please. :kiss:

58 two days ago, I would giver her time to get over the bounce.

Our province broke all time Canadian records for heat yesterday, supposed to get hotter today.:eek: Maybe feel like 50 C or 122 F later on today. Time to hunker down and assume the spatchcock position.
 
(1) Those are the most adorable spatchcocked chickens I have ever seen!
(2) If you ever needed to get meds into Sam's food -- he wouldn't eat it (only Minnie's).
(3) Thank goodness you have the portable air conditioner. You should probably just sleep in your living room on the couch for the next few days (not for your usual reason of Minnie diving, I hope, but to stay cool.) I checked and see that you have some relief in sight coming (but NOT today). I'm sure you have been checking the extended forecast.
(4) I just got out of bed at about 11:30 a.m. (depressed) -- well, I first got up at 5 a.m. and went out to feed my ferals -- came home at 6:30 a.m. -- wandered around listlessly for an hour or so... then went back to bed. At least I had cats plastered on me (which you would be way too hot to have on you right now, unfortunately.) But the reason for this long intro is to say that while I was sleeping I had a dream that I went to Seattle; I was looking for you and Minnie. I kept running into people and asking them if their name was Liz... or if they knew a Liz with a cat named Minnie. I did find a Liz, but her name, she said, was Liz Newsome, and she did not have a cat. I kept looking.... eventually woke up.

Wendy, if you assume the spatchcock position later today, please post an image in Minnie's thread :smuggrin::rolleyes::p I can guarantee it would get lots of likes:) I know that's not what you are after, but still . . .

Minnie is such a minx. I decided to try pilling again after being picky with food, walking away from it and lip licking again. First attempt failed and she ran away, straight to her bowl of food and ate maybe a mouthful. I persisted and on 2nd attempt successfully got a cerenia (in gel cap) down her! Our position is her sitting between me and the arm of the sofa (used to be her favorite position and where I brush her) - she can't back away. @Wendy&Neko 's pill gun is the best because it's short. My fingers are no way long enough to use the vet gun! After punishing me by running away, she came back and sat near me and just scoffed another bowl. Maybe it is pancreatitis. Last few days she has taken to growling at me whenever I pick her up.

Now, replies! I am so lucky with these 2 (adopted from the shelter, probably from the same litter) - they are quite happy to have tummies rubbed and kissed. We had a cat once that would grab you with the front paws and beat you like Thumper with the hind paws if you tried a tummy rub.

I may try this! I imagine it will be a washcloth covered in fur after. I confess, I am also tempted by duplicating @Butters & Lyla shaving technique.

So hard to be patient! But I am relieved that we have finally seen a stretch of decent numbers and finally a negative urine glucose strip. Though I have learned that has its own stresses about when it's safe to leave! I am not comfortable that leaving food out means she will eat it (though my experience so far when she goes low is that she is RAVENOUS)

Sammy at the front, yawning (his nose fur is brownish and he's a bit fluffier and bigger) and Minnie at the back, with her Siamese cross-eyedness. When I first had them, I couldn't tell them apart especially when they woke me up in the night like Casper the friendly ghost. Sam will stare right at you - especially when he wants attention or is being naughty - my dad used to say he was reading your soul.

Oh Suzanne, my heart aches for you. I'm glad you have some other kitties to fight for your attention. You need to tell us a bit more about your menagerie! I remember Jane and Bingley and Emma and Tinkerbelle and (there's a dog too but I've forgotten her name) the new nameless kittens.

And HA - I just wasted time searching online for a Liz Newsome in Seattle but didn't find one. And if you ever do come to Seattle, you must let me know and we will arrange to meet up so you don't need to go searching!! :bighug::bighug:
 
I’ve only been to Seattle once on a business trip to Seattle and Richland. Did the space needle, ate in their restaurant which actually had fantastic King Salmon back in those days (this was in the 90s), went to Pike Place Market and did some other touristy things. Then I went to Richland for more business and saw tumbleweeds! Cool. I was like…. Are those tumbleweeds? (Had only ever seen them in the movies.). Funny I don’t remember seeing them in New Mexico when I was growing up. Maybe they don’t have tumbleweed.

NO WAY YOU WENT TO RICHLAND!! We lived there a couple of years when I was 12!! My first experience of tumbleweed! And if you flew over you probably saw the round fields too, from the way they irrigate. What kind of work were you doing in Richland (I can only think of one industry...Richland High School IS home of the Bombers after all)

Definitely worth considering! I have a former vet tech turned groomer come over and I assist her. Butters is soooo much happier over the summer without the burden of her heavy fur coat. She gives her shave two paws up and highly recommends it to Minnie & Sam.
I hope Minnie's appy picks up soon. She and you both need some smooth sailing.

Yes! I worked for many years for the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. I was a Congressional Liaison / eventually Manager of Washington Information Services in Washington, D.C. I was a swamp dweller.
 
P.S. you cracked me up saying that you lived there a couple of years when you were twelve! I think we have discovered the secret of your youthful longevity! What did your father do when you were living there in the Tri-cities area?

Haven't had to resort to that yet. :p A nice 12 km row in the wee hours - loved the part wading in the ocean to launch/land!, and now I'm mostly hunkered down in the cool basement.

Wow, small world!! That's Battelle, right? (showing my age probably) I interviewed there in my last year at college (in England) but that didn't work out. Probably for the best, otherwise I might still be there! My dad didn't work out at the site but he was working on the nuclear waste vitrification project - the perpetual 30 year project, seems to me - and then my parents went back when I was at college and he worked on robotics, still for the nuclear waste. Mind you, we lived there before they mothballed ALL the power plants. Just wow.

Yep! Battelle had (still has I believe) the Management and Operating contract for Pacific NW Labs … my pension will be coming from Battelle. Do we have any Ohioans on this board? I would like to hear about England sometime. I lived in England for a while, but I was young… I had quite the British accent.

Ha, so did my sister and I. Lived in NJ til I was 5 then a year in England, back to NJ and then WA then back to England when I was 14. Accent is unplaceable :)

I had no idea it was out of Columbus, but my dad had business trips to most of those places - Lawrence Livermore, Los Alamos, Oak Ridge. He also worked on Three Mile Island and was very particular to always point out that it failed SAFE. :D
 
My mother grew up in Los Alamos NM. She lived in the same apartment building as David Greenglass who was the brother of Ethel Rosenberg (married to Julius Rosenberg). She always had lots of stories to tell.

Ah yes. Strangely I had never heard of them before! My husband and I are both engineers, he's in R&D and does a lot of work with contractors. I asked him if he's done work with them, he said for the most they were just project managing some Italians but it was a crazy project.
 
It's interesting that you bring up Gordon Battelle Suzanne. One of my "trying to stay sane in a pandemic" things has been reading. I used to dislike history and nonfiction in general, but lately I find myself driven and curious about interesting people, places, and events in history. I've got a biography on Nikola Tesla next up, along with some about the Night Witches in WWII and some other war-related ones. Have finished books/reading about the Oak Island Money Pit, Christopher Knight (hermit) and a book written by a neuropsychologist about various unique patients and conditions he's seen over the years. And now you gave me some.more interesting reading!
 
PM+5 331...stinky pinky. It's half past midnight, not going to give R since not likely to wake up hourly to monitor til 430am. If she's still up there at AMPS I think I'll give R and are we due an increase?
 
Your kitties are adorable!!! I hope there’s something you can put your finger on that’s driving the higher BGs. I wonder if it’s maybe a combo of the heat affecting her appetite and/or stressing her out just enough to raise? Totally uneducated guess there! I like the idea of trying a damp washcloth rub down tho. Don’t forget the little paw pads!! Good luck - stay cool yourself too!!
 
Yes. I lived in England for five years. Moved all around the U.S. as well. California, Florida, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and now Georgia. Spent loads of time in summers in New Mexico and Colorado. Accent also unplaceable... some people say midwest... but it's not like that at all... I've never lived in the midwest in my life... I think they say that because they can't figure anything else out.
