Looks like we got a green last night! It was my first time using my "emergency crunchies system" since it's the first time I trusted the Libre numbers enough to risk it. I was out trapping and saw on my phone that Ember's glucose was 89 and going down. So I sent her a tablespoon of high-calorie food (it's my senior kitty Zoey's renal diet and Ember is OBSESSED with trying to get it so I know she'll definitely eat it in an emergency) from my feeder app. Later it adjusted itself up to a low of 98 (I was pretty sure it actually wasn't as low as 89 but it's been pretty accurate in the lower numbers recently). I could see her numbers start to inch back up so I was able to stay out and catch the tomcat! (I of course would have zoomed immediately home if her numbers kept falling.) I'm really glad I got to try out my emergency system in a low-risk situation where I could have gotten home within 12 minutes if needed. This gives me more confidence that if she drops while I'm at work and unable to leave that I can keep her safe until I can get there.
Safe surfing everyone. Happy Friday!

This is amazing!! Both that you were able to come up with a way to successfully keep Ember safe while you were away, and that you were able to catch the tom cat. The work you do is so so needed and makes such a difference. I always wonder how many kittens Mister fathered while he was out in the mountains before I found him😞

Oh gosh I know, I bet he was the cutest little kitten too. He was a stray/not neutered for ~2 years before I found him, by my vet’s guesstimate. Big ol tom cat cheeks. And funny story, Calliope was still a baby, I hadn’t gotten her spayed yet and she went into heat and that’s when Mister started lurking around our house 😆 he used to sit on our back porch and she’d be doing the things females in heat do, rolling around in front of the door, showing off, yowling…he was severely underweight and unkempt so I started feeding him and he stuck around even after she was spayed. When he finally started to trust me, and after he disappeared for a few days and came back hurt (something attacked him pretty badly), I brought him inside. But anyway yeah I’d almost guarantee I’m a cat grandma to at least one litter out there somewhere. If I could find them I’d bring them home but something tells me he didn’t make much of a “dad”😆
