Re: 6/22 Tigger AMPS 348
Oh what a cutie!!
We used to feed science diet dry before and it had something like 20% in carbs. Of course, we thought we were doing the right thing by buying a higher end, but all dry is bad. Tarragon went through a phase where he was crying all the time because he was hungry once we switched to wet. I think that 3-4 (3 oz) cans of fancy feast is what they suggest. Tarragon started out eating 4 cans and now, since being on insulin for awhile and getting somewhat regulated, he eats about 3. We have another kitty, Turnup, who is not diabetic. I still free feed. I do add quite a bit of water to their food to make sure they get their water intake, help it fill their bellies more, and keep it moist while I am at work. I would say that if you give one can for breffis (with some water added) and then put another one (with water) down before you leave for the day, Tigger should be good to go until you get home in the evening. Give a can for supper (again with water added) and maybe a can for overnight? That is how I do it and after awhile, he doesn't always need that night time can or just half a can.
I was determined that I would never have a life again and be able to keep up with the shot and feeding schedule. It gets better, really. It is just very overwhelming at first and you second guess yourself on everything and watch every little thing they do.
Good luck and know that you are not alone. We have all been there and, somedays, it feels like I still am.
