Hello there lovely people. I've finally tried to update my spreadsheet after not inputting any data into it for days. I appreciate so much those of you who have written to check up on me -- even though I may not have had time to write back with all that's been going on. I can't even begin to provide many details on what's been going on. Darcy has been at the vet (and emergency vet for an afternoon/overnight) again this past week for four/five days and was back again today. He's been given leave for tomorrow and I am sure I will have to take him back on Wednesday.

Just thought I would check in and let y'all know we are still alive.
Mr. Darcy says thank you to everyone who has sent good thoughts and prayers his way. I have missed checking in on how you all and your kitties are doing...

I'm so glad you checked in, Suzanne! Now I can breathe a little because I was worried but didn't want to barrage you in case you were knee deep in stuff, which you were. Olive, Ruby and I are rooting for you and Mr. Darcy. Big hugs. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Well... since you asked... I'll provide more details in a little bit... you may be around because you're three hours behind us.
I'm sure you are exhausted and would rather spend time canoodling with Darcy so don't feel obliged to spend long on this for us. Just the essentials are all we need

Actually, it's kind of nice to check in and see what's been going on. Exhausted... yes... but a lot of it is mental and emotional... but that makes me feel like all I want to do is sleep.

Poor little man, and poor mama. We don't need ALL the details but we do need ONE detail. HAS HE POOPED?? :bighug:
So... to answer your specific question... yes and no... he never has passed any stool at home at all... the vet requested that I wait a few days to see if he would go... by Wednesday I took him back and he was so incredibly blocked up that there was no way he could go. His stool is so rock hard that there is no way he could ever pass it on his own. The only time he has been able to pass anything is with multiple enemas. He's had enemas nearly every day (not today) since last Wednesday. When I took him on Saturday morning he had a few more... the Cisapride medication arrived on Thursday and he was started on that... nevertheless, he was a happy guy when I dropped him off on Saturday morning, but when I picked him up four hours later he was in his carrier breathing way too fast and just lying there with a fixed stare and moaning. I took him home only long enough to get a BG on him (no surprise it was very high) and then took him to the Emergency Vet. The vet there tried something different... a Lactulose enema... she did a few of them and made some progress. He did pass some stool and it broke up into smaller pieces. But we still have a problem and I am very nervous about waiting and not doing anything about it... well... I mean, I am trying to do something about it. He is on Lactulose, Miralax, Aloe Vera juice (inner filet), Cisapride (to promote motility in the colon) - and now- as of tonight Colace stool softener. I can't even remember if that is all. I guess tomorrow I may add in some slipper elm bark to his food. He pretty much will not eat anything anymore, so I add all this stuff into his food that he is being syringe fed. They are starting to make noises about "having to make some hard choices" if we cannot clear up his constipation. They say he is "not a candidate for anesthesia" with his kidneys being as bad as they are... I'm sure that it true because the blood pressure drop that occurs with anesthesia can really damage the kidneys -- as well as other factors that occur during anesthesia. So we are trying everything that we can to make things move. So that's where we are... it's not a good place to be.

Oh Suzanne, I don't know what to say. I am so so sorry. It seems like this is something the vet should have been able to get on top of before it got to this stage. I must admit I am a bit shocked that they are only adding stool softener now? Poor little guy, I can't imagine he wants to eat if he's all blocked up.

I am sure you have researched this til your eyes are crossed. Is this something that acupuncture could help with? Sounds like every other 'standard' treatment is being tried. Poor, poor little man.

I would try anything... I think I will try tomorrow to see if I can find anyone who does acupuncture. Katherine sent me a link to try to find somebody. It's just been so busy with every day going to the vet and spending so much of the rest of the time taking care of him or just lying around with him (when he's home) worrying and being depressed.

I can only imagine. You feel so helpless.

Hey, maybe you can find a practice that treats humans as well. You know how at resorts they do couples massages by the beach? You and Darcy could have side by side acupuncture. Yours for stress.

Hi Suzanne, now I have more information. I wish I could make miracles happen to his little intestines. I wish most of all that something starts to work and he can be out of this belly pain and start wanting to eat. My heart hurts for both of you. All I can do is send Dolly’s tummy vibes and tons of loving prayers. I totally understand the depression, Dolly runs my emotions and feelings of well being OR NOT. When she is not okay, well, neither is my world. I will check in again. Lots of hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh about the stool softeners it’s just another one added in. He hS been on Lactulose and or Miralax for weeks now.

I'm so sorry Mr. Darcy is not improving. Sending many prayers for better days ahead for both of you. I hope the stool softener is the magic ingredient to get things moving for him.

Oh Suzanne I am sorry, that's a lot. I feel like a jerk for making a joke, I took your post to mean he was going.

I hope the cocktail gets him going soon poor boy :bighug:

Thanks. I don’t know how many stool softeners a guy can take. Lactulose Miralax and Colace. Still nothing. Aloe Vera Inner Filet gel too, which comes recommended by the Tanya ckd support group.
