Dear friends,
Where does the time go?

Life here in the land of Sootie's Tribe has hardly been a whirlwind but it has been full of hard impact stumble bumbles (eg, I guess I have to return to NS to revisit the dreaded discussion about the second surgery that truly will be a surgery from hades with limited success prognosis), a new round of dental vet specialist visits for Bella who then had major dental surgery (extractions) two weeks ago, Azalea with some ups and downs but stalwart as ever and loving her acupuncture, and oh yes...last week a disastrous reaction to colonoscopy prep (you don't want to know!:banghead:) that has taken a few days for me to recoup from. Good thing it's every 5 years.

Weather has been quirky in recent weeks, a couple of days in the 90's followed by rain, fog, sun, temperate days cool nights, more rain more fog. One night in the midst of it all an amazing thunder and heat lightning storm that crackled the skies.

Our little fox visitors who romped and raced about in our back yard seem to have come of age to move on and seek new territories, this being the time of year when they tend to do so. I hope that is the case and that they are safe and in good health. Mange and uninformed people seem to be their major risks around here. Fisher cats (killer weasels) haven't been sited around here lately. That's a relief.

Last week my dear CIL (cousin-in-law) and I began a rug hooking class together.

I've wanted to relearn the art for years, particularly to properly repair my Danish grandmother's beautiful rag hooked rugs. When I was little, I used to sit with her and watch intently while she looped row-by-row, pulling fabric strips from bags full of years of waste-not fabric cut fir her purposes. It seemed like magic to me how she chose which strips went where, designing the effect as she went along. I'm sure she had it all planned out visually but it seemed like magic to me. She had the patience of Job when she let me join in and practice. Ah, the sweetness of memories.

A bit of local nautical excitement here during the weekend. A schooner race on Sunday was on in hopes the fog would clear. Then it was off because of fog. Unfortunately a 1926 96-ft schooner, the Alabama, went aground in a touchy spot at the mouth of the river by "the spindle." Did the same thing about 7-8 years ago but hit mud then instead of rock this time. It's a touchy area bc the channel is narrow there, and depending on the vessel's draft and the tide cycle, it's a grabber. Years ago, with Steve's lobster boat, he and I pulled another schooner, the Harvey Gamage, off the same spot when she went aground in mud.

Here are some photos that I hope you'll enjoy:
Azalea (of course!), one of which is at recent acupuncture;
The initial design (not my design drawing but that I found on vintageprintables) for my hexoganol rug hooked table top runner;
The Alabama aground.

With heaps of love, hugs and vines for all in need and in healing.

It's good to see an update from you. It sounds like things have been crazy for you. I hope Bella has recovered from her surgery. Nice that Azalea still likes the acupuncture. I hope you enjoy the rug hook class. Nice memory of your grandmother. Sending prayers for you, Steve and the tribe. :bighug::bighug:

Life is a rollercoaster, isn't it?

My Mom used to do rug hooking, and I actually did a teeny one when I was a kid, too. Very soothing....with beautiful results!!

Prayers for Sootie's tribe - and you, too, Sina!

Hi Carla, thank you. Great to hear from you and hope that Furball will be seeing more 's and then back to more :D's soon. With heaps of love and hugs from us all including Spunky who sez
"Dear Furball, I hear you're back on the juice. Hope you'll be OTJ again lickety split. You still gotvpilyp ear wax? Me too. I think we need to boycott ear polyps! These daily ear cleanings are gettin' to be for the birds, especially in summertime when my bean interrupts my bird feeder watch. Hang in there. You've got a super mama bean . ;)"

Hi Amy:bighug: , wonderful to hear from you. Yes indeed life sure is a roller coaster. Sometimes a too fast one. But there it is.

What a beautiful memory of you and your mom rug hooking together. Do you still have the little rug that you made with your mom?

Sending more heaps of vines and hearts and hugs your way. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you, Sina. The rug - I know it is somewhere at my Mom's house, probably in the closet of my old bedroom. We're both definitely pack-ratters of that sort of thing!

Sina, Azalea looks wonderful! She looks SO happy and content. I love the pattern for your rug. Interesting about the boat. I live at the top of the Chesapeake Bay and surrounded by rivers, so we see that same sort of thing, as well as accidents and breakdowns in the shipping channel. Fortunately when ours run aground it's always mud, not rock! Mud is so much more forgiving. lol.

Hugs to you and scritches to all your tribe! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Great to hear from you Sina.
Azalea looks great, she's such a fighter.
Hope you enjoy your rug hooking class with your dear CIL, it sounds like great fun.
Hugs and vines to you and scritches for the Tribe.

My grandma made hook rugs. We had them all over the house. They were almost indestructible.

Great update. Love the picture of the tall ship even if it is listing a bit.

Hi Sina ! Great to hear from you and sorry to hear about more dental stuff for Bella and more downs for sweet Azalea. And , oh sorry about the colonoscopy prep and a reaction. As if the prep action isn't enough fun.......

Rug hooking sounds fun and hope you can repair your grandmom's rug.

Foxes are so pretty but, I want the ones in my area to hang out somewhere else as this is Bubba's beat, LOL.

Bummer about the Alabama get stuck.

Hope this Summer Solstice is kind and gentle to you and yours.

Hey Lucy, great to hear from you and thanks. The Chesapeake must be beautiful this time of year. Alas, I've never been there but wish I had. Steve speaks fondly of the region that he has come to know during various mariner and oyster-research writing forays over the years.
Hope you and your tribe are well and enjoying summer breezes.
❤❤❤ from us all here in the midst of topsy turvy weather "events." Btw when did weather descriptions begin to morph into being "events" instead of whatever they actually are!:banghead:

Hi Lizzie and thanks! How did you all fare during the recent storm? Sure looked like a hurricane-like "event" from the maps. ;)
The Alabama is quite a beautiful schooner with an interesting life. If she'd run aground in the mud instead of on rock, her list would have been more dramatic. At least no damage was done. A friend of ours, a Coast Guard diver, happened to be the one called to inspect for damage under the water line . The vessel got a thumbs up by the Coast Guard and was underway again the next day....though not up river or near the spindle . I guess I'd be leery, too!

Great to hear from you Sina.

Hi Gill and thank you. Always remembering your kindness and help especially during Azalea's eye injury and eventual enucleation surgery. Of course, in hindsight, wish I'd gone forward with the surgery sooner (and as you and Bobbie encouraged) but surgery was a concern with her age and kidney issues. As it turned out, she aced the surgery and was in good hands with the eye specialist and the board certified anesthesiologist who made sure the anesthesia protocol was feline ckd "safe and friendly." Without all of our friends here in LL, who knows what the outcome would have been. So, thank you all with ❤❤❤galore.

Hey, Bobbie great to hear from you and thanks, too❤ How are you and how is Bubba the Great Surveyor of the Rodent Realms?

Bella's two-week post dental recheck was an all-clear healing nicely visit. Recently she's been doing a lot of hair all regurges (bean's detective work much easier when each cat is a different color!). IDK if it's the weather or what but it's been happening since post-op. Vet sez Keep an eye on it. This bean however, always worried whenever pukus happens to anyone.

The other morning, while on way to dental vet with Bella, saw a young fox dart across the road towards Beebe Cove. Was shocked to see this little one so skinny his ribs showed as he darted and fur alas had the look of advanced mange. I had so hoped they would be safe.
