? 6/17 Malcolm Cabergoline dose question

Hi. I finally started Malcolm on his cabergoline. They recommend a dose of 0.5 ml (80mcg/ml is the whole bottle) every 48 hours. Is that an average starting dose? I also have him on 2.5mg of Enalapril. Just wondering if those two are ok to use together? My vet isn't very helpful since they say most vets aren't very experienced with cabergoline or acromegaly in cats. Which is strange to me since there is this whole forum dedicated to acro cats..., and I live in a very urban area, so you'd think this wouldn't be a new thing to the vets here

How much does Malcolm weigh now? Dosing with cabergoline is based on weight of cat. Usually 10 mcg/kg of cat.

I've seen people give both enalapril and cabergoline to the same cat.

The research showing one in four diabetic cats has cabergoline came out in 2015. Depending when the vet graduated, they may not have seen it and were taught the old message "this is acromegaly, it is so rare you won't see it". Even training on both cat and dog diabetes is done in less than a day at vet school. Cabergoline used to be used to terminate pregnancies in cat only. The use of it for acromegaly only started trial studies (and here) in 2016. The papers about it came out later.

He weighs just a little over 8 lbs.
That's interesting about when they started using it for acromegaly. Seems like all of the vets I've dealt with graduated earlier so they must have not been introduced to it. One vet didn't even think I would be able to get cabergoline. But my other vet was able to get me a prescription with no problems.

8 lbs is 3.6 kg. That's quite small for an acrocat. His dose should be around 36 mcg, so 40 is close enough.
