Well not the number I was hoping for this morning :YMSIGH: ...should her bounce be this long? She pretty much surfed the middle 3's +8 312 last night.
Doodles and I had a much needed break from the pokin last night, and it seems she didn't change much from yesterday's raise at +7.

Doodles was ready to go for her morning poke :smile: I had all the stuff next to my bed :smile: this way I could just wake her up and poke ;-)
She had a good breffis about 2tsp of FF, chewed on some of her kittie grass, and is hanging out waiting on me :-D she wants to chase me up the stairs bcatrun_gif
and start her morning routine :smile:

Oh...we did have a pretty big fur ball last night yuckies ohmygod_smile I have noticed she's had more lately, like in the past few weeks. It's most likely because she has been
on the "takin a bath" mode. Her fur is shiny and healthy although she seems to be shedding, guess she's behind on getting rid of that winter coat :smile:

Misty and Milo (shepards) are up and waiting at the back door :-D they heard me click the cat dishes and they know they get whatever the kids didn't eat over the night :-D and today it's nada :smile:
someone ate the food left out :smile:

And the girlz Belle and Jasmine (guinea pigs) heard me take out Doodles needle and it makes a crinkle noise so they started cherpin this morning too :lol: like
hey where's my lettuce and apples?

Looks like the my gang is ready to rock this morning :lol: :lol:

Hi Heidi, yes, unfortunatly your bouncy girl could last up to 72 hours. I don't think she will tho', she seems to 'bounce' back quick.
My tomtom sheds like crazy this time of year, I have the special cat brush and I brush him (he luvs it) 2-3 times a day and it looks like I could make an entirely new cat with all the fur I take off of him :lol: and he's not even a long hair kitty.

Mannie and I hope your bounce is short lived - but... my guy can at times stay there for a few days. He on the flip side can also cliff dive in a matter of hours. Doodles: you be smart and take it slow and steady back to better numbers, so your bean can breathe and relax. :-D

.............NEWS JUST IN :o :o..........

DOODLES of San Clemente has just WON the cliff diving EVENT :o :o with a 238 point drop :shock: and the crowd goes WHHAAAT?!

She is eating her championship snack of FF seafood delight with much enthusiasim flip_cat flip_cat her brother is sharing in the rewards of her performance :-D

She has just announced that she will be entering in the Green Wave Surf contest today :smile: whoo hoo :mrgreen: and mama bean thought she would get a break from all her
extra activities today :lol:

I'm learning if I ignore and go on with my stuff she always will :o me :-D

Please get a +3 or another check in soon. That's a BIG drop early on. Also, give Doodles some LC to slow things down. You may need to break out the HC if things keep speeding downhill this way. Keep an eye on the numbers this morning.

she had some good LC munchies at +2.5 she's back upstairs on the patio. Will check her +3.5 is right now.

+3.5 109 1hr after eating 1/2 can LC FF :-D
I will do another test on her +4.5 this way she will have a complete 2 hour window of no food. Does that sound about right?

just got a report from Doodles...

she said the water is awesome, it was just a little wave, but a new set is coming in and to chillaxe :cool:

she also says she's new at this sufin thing :roll: and thought she may boogie board the blue for a set :lol:

lets hope mannie doesn't tease her with the scuba gear today ohmygod_smile

For future reference...

If you are seeing numbers drop, you don't have to give a lot of food nor do you want to wait 2 hours for the next test. If numbers are dropping, you feed a teaspoon or two of food. The idea is that you want to encourage a surf but also don't want to fill up Doodles should you need to give HC food shortly thereafter. Right now, you don't know if what you are seeing is a food spike from 1/2 a can of food. (I usually give about 1/8 can or less.)

Likewise, if you're seeing dropping numbers, especially if there's momentum behind those numbers (like a 238 point drop in 2.5 hours), you want to test relatively often. You don't want to wait 2 hours for food to settle. You want to feed a little bit and test an hour (or sooner) so if numbers should drop low, you will know what's going on and be able to steer the numbers appropriately. If you wait 2 hours, it could be dangerous if there's a fast drop going on.

I hope that makes sense!

Maybe I'm not controlling the food thing? I'm not doing anthing different that I've always done. I noticed she was more hungry this morning because of yesterday. She pretty much likes to eat
every two hrs. She came to get me this morning for a mid snack and was hungry for that and now we have these humbers?

I'm sorry if I didn't sound concerned with her numbers. I was NOT expecting such a flippin drop, I know she can drop but whaaat?! I'm a confessed checkaholic :-| and sometimes I feel she needs a break ;-)
like I said I was not expecting her to drop like that and then to go up again? I usually start her with 1tsp, but she usually will end up eating 1/2 a can, that can take 10 ~15 minutes.

My question I guess now would be should I expect another drop around her nadir?

I'm suppose to go out for about an hour, but it's near her +6 and I don't want to be away if she's going to drop like she did ohmygod_smile

should I be concerned? not liking the fact she continues to rise, she's not eating as much either. Just gave her about 1/2 tsp of FF and she wasn't interested in it.
And she took off up stairs to lay in her condo. She seems receptive when I call her to take her BG. What to do?

I echo what Sienne said and to answer your latest question, it looks like a case of bouncy rubber kitty again. You've had 5 tests with progressively increasing number. I would say that you are good to leave.
Just test when you come back.

I was able to stay home just incase.
I put more food under her nose and she's eating again :-D I always worry when she doesn't eat like a pig :lol:

It looks like a bounce. Probably her liver panicked with the big drop at +2 and decided to pull out all the stops. I'm a learner on these things, too, but Sienne and Helene always give great advice. Put Doodles on the moonbeam express to South Africa so she can enjoy Max's party. And you, Heidi, can enjoy a little rest from today's excitement!

I was wondering if anyone has any information regarding the test strips and NOT changing the code? I just found out that I should change the code with each new bottle of strips, I had no idea I was to
do that.

I just retested after finding out this info and she tested after eating 1/4 can FF at +6.75 309 which is not good but better. I will go change my ss to reflect the change as this may be important :smile:

This is a good example why its important to test during bounces, especially if kitty is new to them. Latte can regularly drop 200-300+pts in a few hrs , like doodles did today. It certainly cant feel good to them and perpetuates the bounce cycle.

If you see she is regularly getting big drops by +2, you may want to consider doing a +1 in addition, so you can see where it might be best to intervene with food...if you chose to go that route. You could also get some +11's to see if you are shooting a dropping # to start with.


Im sorry this happened to doodles. If you are wondering why Latte' bg's are so high, a big part of it is related to this drop/bounce patter. Of course she has other issues that dont help or could be the cause of the great fluctuations.

Btw...A drop like this is typically a guaranteed bounce.

I hope doodles can get it under control. And I hope YOU had a little bit of time away todaay.

Oh yes, been there, done that - all the comments on the bounce stuff. You've got a bounce - mannie was a master of them - still is at times, but we are in better control of them through food control/manipulation. Sienne's comments are right on, as well as carolyn's.

bouncing is normal, especially when the cat first starts getting good numbers. It's great that Doodles cleared yesterday's bounce so quickly. It can take a lot longer than that, so hopefully this means she is a quick study. ;-)

About the meter, for the meters that require coding they usually print something on the vial of test strips that tells what code to use. Have you had your meter on a different code than your strips? It might make a difference, but I really don't know how much. The numbers today seem to make sense, so maybe there wasn't much difference.

that's what I'm thinking about the strips too. Each bottle has a code that I was to enter on the One Touch each time the code # changed. Which has been a lot :lol:
so who knows if there will be much of a change :roll: When I found out I had just checked like 15 minutes prior so I rechecked there was a 34 point difference? But she also had food within that time frame

When on a bounce I was reading some of the stickies, but am a little confused, oh there's a :shock: I should be feeding Doodles more often to control the bounce. If I do that, do I need to be concerned of
a no food for a 2 hour period before testing her BG's? I get it she had too much sugar with her own and the insulin, because she's not used to having healthy numbers. It seems as though she is leveling out before her evening shot and I wonder if she will get back to the blues or greens? Yellow would be ok for me tonite :YMSIGH: she's had so much fun at the park with the bungee jumping!

I am totally getting the food thing is really important, we have no kitty krack just wet food all under 10 carbs mostly she eats around 4 -7 carbs. I will make sure to get her some MC and HC for her other rides at the parks or beach :lol:

Bounces are part of the sugar dance. We all hate them, but we know they will go away. Get used to being Doodles domestic servant :roll: , spreading out breffis and dinner does seem to help.

Out of curiosity, what were the 2 different codes? I think the difference in the code numbers should be about the same as the difference in readings. I order from Hocks and I think they get strips in in big batches w/ the same code. I've only had to change my code once. An advantage of buying in bulk! :lol:
