Good luck with getting back on schedule. Things happen..even dishes all over the floor. Enjoy your day. :-D

Re: 6/15 Trey 322 AMPS

Well Trey got 2 hours in without eating (I think) and we tested him at 9:00am he is 322BG gave him 2 units (pen) so after eating 2 breakfasts and doing the clean up I think this is not bad. We will try to get one through the day but we will have syringes for PMPS shot.. check back later got family looking at me with  ear went a little better wrapped him in towel too many eyes on us. They are leaving for a few days will get things back on track LOL Kath

Re: 6/15 Trey 322 AMPS

Kath --

If this happens again: If DH accidentally feeds within 2 hours of your usual AMPS, I wouldn't move the shot time -- especially if numbers are on the high side. This happens to all of us every so often -- especially if there are other people in the house who are "helping." It's best if you can stick to your regular shot time. Lantus works best if the shots are given every 12 hours. The more you deviate with late and early shots, the harder it is to get a good read on how Trey is doing.

So, for tonight, your PM shot time is 12-hours from when you shot this morning. (The late shot resets the clock.) Please post at around +10 with a test. We may be able to start to get you back on schedule depending on what the numbers tell us.

Re: 6/15 Trey 322 AMPS

So you are saying I could have gave him his shot Darn....So tonight we will be using a syringe and we will check before using it by shooting out of pen into spoon and measure so we give him what is in that amount but not this stuff got that ok Do I keep at 9pm for tonight since I shot at 9am or maybe I can move a bit earlier. I really want to get back on earlier time like 7-7:30 any ideas will be great Thanks Kath

Re: 6/15 Trey 322 AMPS

Well just tested our pen and it good we are doing 2 units so that is good to know

Re: 6/15 Trey 322 AMPS

Talk to our vet and told her what we did she said that the way this insulin works is to us it aggressibley at first so that is why she wanted it at 3 units. She said ok keep on 2 units and do a curve on Friday. She will then talk to me on Sat and she is pretty sure we will have to go up. I said ok we will see LOL Kath

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=17293  Well we just tested Trey we did it 30 minutes early. I am pleased to say Trey is 181(+11.50) I think @ 8:30 would this be right. Our older cat she is 18 and deaf but seems to drink a lot of water or I thought so well we tested her and she is 118BG .We did not test him extra today and we think he is not as stressed also we wrapped him in a towel Perfect!! !  works great Thanks who ever suggested this LOL Kath

looks good.

Using this insulin "aggressively" (with high starting doses) is the old way. Dr. Rand's previous protocol called for high starting doses and then reducing as needed. That protocol was much better suited for use in the hospital, where BG can be measured around the clock and glucose given as needed. Overdosing *can* lead to remission very quickly in some cats. It's not very safe, though, especially for home use. Once you have stayed up at night to walk someone through a hypo, you'll understand why you don't want to purposely go there.

Last year Dr. Rand published a new protocol, which is essentially the one we have been using here and on the German forum for a few years. Maybe if you give your vet the links to the protocol, so he can see that it has been published by a veterinarian, he will be more receptive.
