Looking at Tux's numbers, I am thinking he is pretty carb sensitive. With 2% or lower carbs, fed hourly, I can keep him surfing green. Giving him 4% yesterday seemed to have shot his numbers for the evening. So I tested this theory and only fed 2% this morning and his numbers dropped. I know this is not normal protocol to drop dose again, but ECID and Tux might not need 1.75?? When I first got the diagnosis, we immediately switched to low carb (he was already eating canned w/dry as free choice) and started home testing. In 6 weeks, I was able to bring him from 425 (first testing at the vet) to the mid 200's. We started him on insulin because my vet said she had never heard of diabetes being controlled by diet alone. As you can see from his SS, we started at 2 units and have worked our way down to 1.75 with an increase at one point because it turns out that Nature's Variety makes him spike even though it is listed as low carb...(not sure what's up with that, I just know what the numbers tell me). I'm holding at 1.75 units for now, I'm just curious as to what some of you more experienced folks think.
To me, it looks like I could lower his dose and keep feeding the lower carb (maybe add a tiny bit of 4%) without so much bouncing of numbers.
