Re: 5/5 Kasha AMPS 404 .5 units
No idea what's wrong with Big Cat. All of his tests came back fine, but he started to drop weigh and lose his appetite at the same time Kasha got diagnosed with diabetes and Blue got diagnosed with the foot tumor (that subsequently became necrotic and requires constant bandaging now or it bleeds everywhere). Literally - all of that happened at once.
We've been the vet nearly weekly for one or more cats for the last couple months and my resources are running very, very thin (both time, money and sanity). Blue has a specialist appt on Monday to see if we can amputate his foot - otherwise, not many options due to the position of the tumor. I wasn't considering amputation, but he's so very lively and the foot is starting to really go bad... I don't know what else to do.
Big Cat is at the point where I think any more testing is going to be very expensive because all the obvious tests showed nothing. We've been to the vet so many times. I have a pretty good vet, served me well up till now (been going to the practice for 17 yrs). As a last ditch trial before my trip, he tried prednisone injections because there were some minor signs of inflammation. That helped more than anything. But the injections only help for about 48 hrs and not long term solution. So... I have a prescription for cyproheptadine (sp?) for him to improve his appetite, but 2 of the last 3 times I gave it to him he vomited right after. So, that's not helping much anymore. We might be passed the point of no return now. He's really slowing down. I wanted him to hang on till my ex could come see him and say goodbye (we found Blue and Big Cat when we lived together years ago). But it's not looking good. I don't want to drag him around and subject him to the terror of the vet any more than I have to - he doesn't seem to be in pain as much as just winding down. I'm the one who's sad about it.
The two boys get along -they are brothers we found together, abandoned on the corner of my street. 2 beautiful big white kitties. Odd that they would both come down with some crazy illness/tumor at the same time.
Kasha considers them her inferiors and will never willingly cuddle near them. She was there first and that's that.
