:YMSIGH: Maggie woke me at 11 pm and would not take no, so I got up and did an ear prick, and her bg was 90, which is right about where her Nadir is, so she must get hungry near that time. I have food left out for her, but she wants fresh food, and she knows she gets a treat of baby food after her ear prick! Then she woke me again at 1:30 am, but that was okay, as it was almost time for her pain med which is to be given every 8 hours. Now I'm going btb!

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie +5 90; +8 120

Morning Ann,

They can be very persistant can't they. My DH gets up first. Sara sits on the bed and purrs, very loudly, staring at him about 4 inches away from his face. Till she sees any kind of movement and than she walks all over him to get him up.

Nice #'s for Maggie. Hope you both have a nice day. Good idea on the btb. I could have used that today.

Thanks Sara. Oh how funny. I know that purring can sound like a little motor so early in the morning! They don't give up.

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie +5 90; +8 120; AMPS 130

Her AMPS is a little high maybe because I've been giving her more of the Gerber bf beef & beef gravy due to her tooth extraction. I thought I had bought the other beef w/o the gravy. She's still doing quite well with all she's been thru lately with the UTI and dental surgery. Time for more ~O)

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie AMPS 130; +4 77

+4 77

Maggie hasn't been this low in a while, but then I usually don't do a check until +5. Something scared her, and she ran under the bed after I did her ear prick. I hope she's feeling okay. Maybe she's afraid I'm taking her to the Vet again! I did get her out from under the bed and brushed her to assure her no Vet today!I don't know what's up. She's acting weird. I'm not giving any more pain med, as her eyes look dilated after administering. I tried to get her to eat, but she just wants to hide. Any ideas!

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie AMPS 130; +4 77; +6 110

Well, I think she is okay now and not trying to hide. I kept talking to her and brushing her. I think it was the liquid medicine she didn't like as it made her sleepy. I was rewarding her with some baby food afterwards. I can stop the pain meds, as I just checked the instructions. I think her Nadir is at +4 when I'm usually not home to check. I usually get a +6. I get really worried when they hide, as that's what my kitty that crossed over did towards the end.

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie AMPS 130; +4 77; +6 110

Ann,

Hope Maggie is doing better now. Her #'s look great.

I know what you mean about the hiding. Especially if your other one was sick. Whenever any of mine have been hiding it was sometimes because they did'nt feel good. But most often I find they just like to find a quiet place to get some r&r.

Hopefully Maggie is done scaring her mom and is back to herself. Maybe your right about the pain med.

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie AMPS 130; +4 77; +6 110

I hope Maggie is feeling better today. Sometimes meds do strange things to you, and the meds are needed so you just have to get through it.

Can you do me a favor and fix the dose amount on your spreadsheet? It says 0.05 in a couple of places, and I think you're really shooting 0.5, right?

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie AMPS 130; +4 77; +6 110

Hi Jan and Sara. Yes, she is done hiding and has been eating. That does give us a scare, you're right. She normally only hides when someone visits she doesn't know, so this had me confused as she enjoys the ear pricks and then getting the bf treat. It must have been the pain med .

HiLibby and Lucy. It must have been the Buprenorphine that was making her strange is the only thing I can think of to get a reaction. She was getting a dose of 0.5 ml inside the cheek every 8 hours, and it did make her groggy/sleepy! She seems to be fine now. Yes, thanks; I went back and did some fixes. Right, I'm just shooting .05 or half a unit. When I type .05, it was showing up as 0.05 for some reason.

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie PMPS 87 Dose Help Needed

PMPS 87

Now this is unusual for her to go this low, and she's been eating today, although not a lot! Usually stress raises the bg as when she was hiding under the bed. I know I can's shoot this low! So what next. I still have 45 minutes to when I normally shoot! Should I start feeding her some hc?

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie PMPS 87 Dose Help Needed

you don't need to feed HC, this is a great number. I don't understand what you mean by it being 45 minutes until you normally shoot, were you trying to shoot early tonight?

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie PMPS 87 Dose Help Needed

Of all times I was having trouble getting online with Roadrunner.
Hi Libby; No I normally shoot at 6 pm, so I took her bg a little early just in case there was a hiccup with the way she has been acting. I expected her to be high with the hiding and stresss today. I still can't shoot at that #, right? She does have some time here when I can feed, if she will eat, and then do another ear prick.

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie PMPS 87 Dose Help Needed

if you test again 45 minutes later, likely she will be higher. Don't feed now, just do another ear prick at +12 and see where she is. If it's the same as this or higher, then yes, you can shoot it. If you're not comfortable, you can stall until she gets to a number you're comfortable with. But since you have shot 90's before and everything was fine, this is just a few points lower so it should be fine too.

Yikes! So I can still shot .05 or maybe a skinny .05 if she is still in this range. Won't she go hypo? Yes, I'll do another prick in 25 minutes. I can stall, too, as 6 pm has just been my normal shoot time, but I can go later. Thanks for your help.

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie PMPS 87 Dose Help Needed

look at your spreadsheet on 4/22 - you shot 89 and she surfed green all day! That's what you want - the more time she spends in green, the more time her pancreas has to heal, and the better her chances at going OTJ. You can look at my spreadsheet too, I shot in the 60's sometimes.

As long as you know you arrived at your dose the proper, safe way, and as long, and you've been testing along the way to figure out her patterns, you know she can be safe. If her number drops lower than you like during the cycle, a little HC food will bring it right up. You can control the numbers with food.

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie PMPS 87 Dose Help Needed

What has you so nervous about shooting this number? You really have been there and done that! Even if Maggie's numbers dropped, you know how to handle low numbers. You'll do fine!!

Oh yes, I see I did shoot at a low on 4/22. I'm going to check your ss also. She just looks so sleepy today it's hard to tell if this is cat nappping or lethargy. She hasn't had a bm in a few days, so time for some Miralax. Thanks. I'll be back with the next bg which is soon.

I don't know what has me so nervous, maybe her behavior today with hiding. Yeah, you're right, I do know how to handle with food. I was just more comfortable in the safe zone with the blues and having not to worry, little chicken me, huh!

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie +11 87; PMPS 103 Dose Help Needed

Okay, this is much better. I just did an ear prick, and she is 103, so no problem. I apologize for being antsy/nervous. I think seeing her hide a couple times today scared me. She may have been tired of me always doing something to her - antibiotic, pain med, ear prick, shot. I just kept thinking of my Siamese boy kitty who crossed over a year and a half ago. This time in May a year and a half ago was when he suddently got so sick and was hiding,

Thanks so much Libby for all your help.

Thank you Sienne, too, for your help.

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie +11 87; PMPS 103

Seeing the behaviors of a GA kitty in a companion who is with you now always triggers a sense of alarm. Maggie is back to herself. Even a kitty can have a bad day! Being able to offer a bit of support and encouragement is what LL is all about. Glad to have been here to lend a hand.

Thanks Sienne. Yes, you're so right about it triggering a sense of alarm. Yes, she is back to normal and sleeping soundly in her bed on top the sofa. Thanks again. The forum here has really been a lifesaver and not feeling so alone in all of it. Have a good weekend, what is left of it.

Re: 5/30 Ann & Maggie +11 87; PMPS 103

Hi Ann and Maggie, I have been out of town since Wednesday so this is my first time back on.(first time leaving Scrabble since his diagnosis too but he did great!!!) So glad to see such good numbers from Maggie. You want those low ps#'s for her, remember shoot low to stay low. Check out Scrabble's ss, I shot some pretty low numbers in the end. You want her to go below 50 so you can dosecrease and you know her pancreas is working. So I guess the vet appt went well???? I will catch up with you guys this week. Have a nice memorial weekend!

Hi Michelle,
So great hearing from you and seeing Scrabble's sweet face! I was just thinking of you and about to send a pm asking "where are you", so good you checked in with us. I'm glad you were able to get away and Scrabble was okay. Yes, I remember your threads and how hard you worked and how supportive and helpful everyone on the forum was with Scrabble and you. Thanks, yes her tooth extraction and anesthesia all went well, and her bg #'s were stable. She's eating okay, too, Take care and good to have you back, and thanks for the support.
