We had to rush Trix to the vet last night. At about 6:30, I went upstairs to see if she wanted a little snack. She was laying on the bed in the spare bedroom. She was in “Sphinx” position. When I held the plate in front of her, she had an odd look on her face…big eyes, kind of wobbly. Then she rolled on to her side – totally flopped flat out. Obviously not normal. She stayed that way for the 5 minutes it took us to get the carrier and call the vet to say we were coming in. She seemed like she was “recovering” when Mark picked her up and put her in the carrier.
She was pretty well stabilized by the time we got to the vet. There is no way to know for sure what happened – could have been a mini-stroke, seizure, or cardiac event. Her heart did have a bit of a gallop which wasn’t there last week when she was at the ER for peeing outside the box. We have no way of knowing if the gallop is a “cause” or “effect”.
She had a similar, but actually more dramatic, episode last summer, right when my Dad headed in to hospice.
Needless to say, yet another sleepless night for me. I dozed on the floor in the upstairs hallway, since that was where she chose to hang out.
She is eating OK, able to get up and down the stairs, able to get on the couch, and able to get to the litterbox, but she is walking oddly Sometimes she’ll walk normally; other times, her gait is off. We’re in a holding pattern right now…but I’m not going to lie….I don’t have a good feeling about this.
Just another day in the hell that is my life….
