5/3 TID is looking like it might make more sense

Robbie woke me at 4:30am but I managed to get him back to sleep... for a big 45 minutes - at 5:15 he was DEMANDING food, attention, everything. I tested and he was 324, gave him a soup spoon and started to go back to bed and than thought - this is insane - now he'll just be 400+ at AMPS. So at 5:30am (instead of 6:30am) I gave him his shot. I think I've mentioned here I think he's a 5:30am cat... which doesn't work since his mother is NOT a 5:30 am Bean.
Now this is what we have today so far:
5:30am (AMPS) test 324, shot 5.0, food (full breakfast)
AMPS +3 294
AMPS +4 small snack (2 soup spoonfuls)
AMPS +7 (this should be his LOW) 281 HUH???

I'm seriously starting to think that instead of going to 5.5 and eventually I'm sure 6.0 I'm pondering if I should try TID. I do not think a cat that went OTJ after a month at 8.0 and another few weeks at 2.0 and reducing down daily till OTJ has insulin resistance. Not that I won't get him tested but right now it's not the top thought on my mind.
Here is my thought about TID - any experts out there I'd love some input. I could reasonably with my schedule do 8:30 am 5:30pm 12:30 pm. I realize this isn't an even schedule - it's off one hour in the evening but I feel like this could work - just would need to contemplate the dose. By the time I'd take this on I'll be at 11 u's per day and headed to 12 u's - so maybe I start at 2.5 per period? Or 3.0? It's clear that by +10 in both cycles he is DONE with the insulin (or it is DONE with him) so keeping the schedule so we never reach that point seemed to make sense. (9 hours/7 hours/8 hours) ???? Or am I crazy?

Hi Ellen,

I think it is worth a try. I have no experience with TID so I can't answer the timing question.

For dose you would take your daily total and divide by 3.

You will need to get TID advise from Kim, Bookworm or Nancy since they are all doing it now.

Good Luck if you try it.

Robin

I'm hoping Kim or one of the others will chime in when time allows. I'm thinking maybe launching this Sunday when I'm home all day - I'll be gone alot Saturday so that wouldn't be a good time.

Hi Ellen.....I will gladly look over Robbie's SS and see if I can offer any insight into trying tid dosing. I think you could make it work with slightly varying schedules, you just need a lot of data before starting. I have shot Kitty as early as 7.5 hours with no problem, but I have a lot of data and have always known the number was definitely rising.

I will look over Robbie's SS either tonight or in the morning and post my thoughts.

Hopefully some others will offer some thoughts also.

thanks Kim I have a decent amount of data - and franky I feel like his numbers are ALWAYS rising! thanks again

I know how you feel! I ALWAYS thought Kitty's numbers were rising too! And, like you said-- -I was totally convinced that by +9 the insulin was Totally Gone in Kitty.

I will get back with you today!

Kim
I know you have a lot on your plate so don't take time out for us if it's problematic. We're hanging in and I can't really contemplate starting this till probably Sunday/or Saturday maybe - not sure how or when I jump in but as long as I'm around to check him constantly I know I'll be OK with whatever happens- while the hypo's are scary he responds really well to food and almost always wants to eat at least something that brings his numbers right back up - not that I'm planning on a hypo but...
