He was 107 this am at +11. I had to leave to have breakfast with my family so did not shoot. He was 305 last night at +13.

When I got home this afternoon at +17 he was 352. Sigh... but it allows me to shoot at 7:30 and get him back on schedule all in one shot.

The 107 was 90 mins after eating, so I was hoping he was bringing himself down.

It's really hot and humid here - 88 degrees, maybe lower 80s where I am near the lake (3 blocks away).

It's miserable here too. I'm afraid I better have Gandalf shaved again. He seems miserable tonight, but his BGs are OK, below 200.

So you don't know where Jeddie was before he ate? Too bad you had to skip the shot but if it helped you get back on schedule for him, it's all good.

I have been wondering about having both Jeddie and Ariel shaved. Ariel has done ok over the past two summers, but I don't know how Jed handles heat. I hate to shave off all the beautiful fur he has finally grown back though.

Well, he was 352 at +17 and 354 at +20 when I shot. He was 224 this am (mon) at +12, so he is making some headway already. NEXT weekend I will be able to get a curve done and I can get some spot checks before bed now that he is back to getting his insulin at 7:30 pm.

Sheila, I don't like the shaving. Period. I only do it for Gandalf because he mats so badly now and I think because of his age, the heat really bothers him so less hair is better for him now. In a cat as young and healthy as Jeddie, I would not recommend it. Gandalf had no problem with the heat when he was healthy - and Jeddie IS healthy, he just has diabetes! Gandalf would find a cool spot to lay, like tile floor or the cool air vent. He also likes to hide outside under my hostas.

OK - no shaving....

He was 117 tonight. I shot the whole .6u and will get a +4. I might have to set the alarm for +6 or something, but I really need to know what this dose is doing and have been waiting for a situation where I can be here to get the data.

Clap, clap! 117 is very good! Glad you shot on it. I guess you'll know in a few hours if it's too much. I'd like to see some surfing for him. Have you had to roll back his shot schedule any? That would be my only concern about how reliable the data tonight will be.

Well, I skipped a shot on Sunday am and resumed his best schedule Sunday pm, so that was the third shot on the new schedule - but moved without shortening any cycles.

He was 67 at +3.5 and 86 at +5, so I left him be for the rest of the night.

Now this am, he was 145 and I shot only .5 because I am a little nervous about how reliable that 67 was for a low point. It was early in the cycle too, and that always seems to coincide with there being a bit too much insulin. Plus, he skipped a shot from a low PS (107) and was sitting in the mid 300s with supposidly a reduced shed and one shot got him down to 224 and the next to 117. I think the overlap was not lost at all.

He's doing pretty good. I actually think the .6U is working finally.

I did not get anything later - went to bed.

This am he was 325. So from that, I am assuming he might have dropped below 60 and this is a bounce.

How can he have 2-3 perfect days and then just fall apart? It's been like that since the beginning (Feb) and each time I end up raising the dose and repeating the cycle. I got a good look at his mouth just now and he has plaque, but no redness of the gums. Not sure I can afford a dental for him right now after Leanne last week. And she needs to go in this week so the other vet can see her mouth.
 
Yeah, I feel your pain. This is a shot in the dark, no pun intended, but maybe it's the full moon? It's tomorrow.

On the other hand, what about it being a bounce from the rapid drop rather than going too low?

No other answer than either get later cycle tests to find out how low he's going at nadir on .6U or drop back to .5U again.
 
I will get later tests over the weekend. Not much I can do about it during the week.

So, if he is bouncing from the rapid drops, but not dropping too low - actually hitting nice numbers - should I feed him something at +2 if I can? There is food down so he can eat if he wants to. Last night he was eating at about +3.5, so maybe too late to slow the drop. I actually gave him 6-8 evos the night he went to 67, but he still bounced to almost 300 in the am.
 
Hmm, that's an idea to feed at +2 or so. Remember, we have seen this affect before, a bottoming out about +3 or +4. I think Monique referred to it as the previous dose's little wave good-bye or something like that. It doesn't necessarily mean the dose is too high, but lowering dose is wrong because it defeats the liver training. I like the food at +2 idea.
