Sorry for our absence. Leave it to Pat to pull one out from under the covers, if even just for a little while. The last month or two have been really challenging between Latte's declining condition, BG's, and my messed up work schedule. I have not been the most positive, and dont really feel it necessary to spread it all over this wonderful place.

Im not all that psyched to talk about Latte's numbers. She did have one of the best days in a month or more yesterday, but is paying for it dearly today. I suspect she will read hi on the meter sometime in the next 24hrs. its really too bad at this point in her life...to have such swings.

She was quite a character this a.m. She did her little circle dance for me when I popped out of bed. She goes in a circle and then rubs against any body part of mine that is closest to her, circles again, rubs, circles, rubs....LOL...she fell down once or twice doing this because her balance is so poor, so it was hard to encourage. But also hard to discourage because she was obviously SOOOO excited for the morning. I dont see that too often any more.

She has been very demanding to go outside lately, especially in the a.m. She sits at the back door quietly. After enough time (according to her) she starts howling at me to open the door. We have a rule...eat first, then outside. If she eats grass on an empty stomach she is sure to vomit. So, we go back and forth ...me telling her to eat, her screaming at me....until she caves and takes a few licks of food, then runs back to the door. New rule is she has to go to her food bowl and eat at least 2 times! She doesnt like that so much.

She is NOT eating so well and I dont know why. Its taking an hour or more of persuading after her shot to get her to even start. Forget about the evening. Hard to control those large drops if she wont eat. :YMSIGH: She is pretty much living off baby food from afternoon on. Its really discouraging.

Shoot! Thunder and lightening. Gotta stop and turn the puter off. Sorry!

Hey Latte,

I hope you feel better and glad to see you doing your morning dance. Even if you fall down, it's still nice to do the things we girls like.

If you eat your fuds, your mom will let you go out and roam around, so come on eat it up - you can always gack it later, and then you get to out.

You take care of yourself, ok....

Signed

Yesterday was very pretty!!

I know you commented on the discussion about Lantus vs. Lev. Given Latte's MA, have you given any more thought to a switch to Lev? Is it worth discussing with your vet?

Sending please eat vines to your precious girl. The leg rubbing always makes me smile, it's heartwarming.

Hi Carolyn, glad to see Latte doing her circles! I am sure you are frustrated but we are all here to support you!!! You are doing an awesome job with Latte! Hugs!!!

Carolyn,

I'm glad Latte is feeling well enough to dance around and want to go outside. It's neat how they can learn rules, isn't it?

Have you asked your vet about trying some Mirtz? It's 1/4 pill every 3 days (hard to split precisely because they are so teeny). They start to work in about 30 minutes for J.D. and makes him very happy and meowy, too  By the 3rd day the effect has worn off, but she might eat well for 2 days out of every 3 (and be happy, meowy, too). They are super easy to pill too, because they are so itsy bitsy.

Don't worry about posting on the bad days, we all have those..at least J.D. and I do. I don't like posting his high numbers, either ie: "J.D. is bouncing again". We all care about Latte, and I think the support helps.

Anyway, I hope you and Latte enjoy your weekend and she gets lots of grass time, meaning she ate twice, lots

Thanks for the update.

It is worth discussing with him, tho Im sure he will think I'm looney. Might be more worth talking to someone at the U...someone specializing in FD, /ot regular specialist. That might cost booku bucks. Lets see if she can go 'problem' free for a month and I might be able to round up the cash for a consult. By that time, venita might be back around. She said she could maybe send me some.

The thunder/lightening must have scared latte into eating...a lot...she is suddenly ravenous.

Sorry to have cut the original post, but couldnt afford to lose my puter to a power surge. I think I covered it all...other than mobility, which is hit/miss. She can be pretty wobbly at times and just fall over. Most of the time she seems to be walking pretty good. Getting bupe 2x/day, mostly cause my work schedule.

So glad to hear from you this morning. I've been thinking about you and Latte. Her circle dance sounds so cute. I hope you get some stable numbers soon. Sounds like you have negotiated some food for outside - very cute. Sending healing & appetite vines to Latte.

Carolyn,

I'm glad to hear she got her appetite back after the storm. I know the rollercoaster of emotions can be overwhelming, but you are doing a fantastic job of managing her needs. Belle has a torn Cranial Cruciate ligament in her knee and she is not as mobile as she used to be. She is unsteady at times and does fall over on occasion, and rarely goes more than 10 feet without stopping to sit. I don't expect it to get better, and it may not for Latte either, but as long as they can get to their food and litterbox and are still rubbing on us and seem happy, all is good. Latte seems to have such spirit, and although she may be slowed by her back problems, she seems more than willing to look past it and enjoy her Mommy's lovin'.

I've mentioned it before in other threads, but you may want to try flavor enhancers or other additions to her food to get her excited. They have these freeze dried salmon treats at Petsmart, and I've started adding the dust to my Samantha's food when she looses interest, and she always gets excited and eats a bunch more. I've also tried Stewart's Pet Food enhancer, and that works great for me as well. I also noticed a Halo Salmon food enhancer on Amazon, but haven't tried it. I like you used to spend a few hours a day trying to feed Samantha, and with these additions, it's made my life so much easier.

Hi Latte, It's good that you've worked out a system with your mamabean for going outside. I know it's tough sometimes, but you've got to keep your part of the bargain! We grass-loving cats can't live well without our grass!! I'm working on some new recipes for the Full Flower Moon party on Thursday and I hope you'll come to the party and sample them. I like it when you eat with pleasure! See you on Thursday,

Chef Stu

Hi Carolyn, So nice to see your post today. We are thinking about Latte a lot and were wondering how she is. It sounds like she had a great day yesterday. Have a good weekend and let's hope the thunderstorms clear out. Hugs from Stu and me to you and Latte,

Ella

Hi! It was nice to see your post this morning - I have been wondering how you and Latte are. It was just great to read about latte's circle dance - just the best. I too would have let her - especially since she enjoys it so much. Mannie loves the outdoors and the grass too - he wondered if he can come and visit Latte and share a few grass rolls and chews. mannie is so looking forward to the Full Flower Moon party at Shadow's and hopes that Latte can come too.

I hope you guys have a good day today...

I hope Latte starts feeling better. I can also vouch for Mirtazapine as an appetite stimulant. Maggie wouldn't eat once she got an infection, and the Vet gave her Mirtazapine. It does work right away. Maggie got very talkative and affectionate and it definitely helped her appetite. It can make some cats jittery though, so 1/4 tablet or even even less would work. I only used it once, and it just seemed to help her along the way. But I hope Latte doesn't need it and will feel better soon. If the flavor enhancers work, that would be a much better route.

(((((Carolyn))))) SO happy to see your post today! Yay!! Even when we are in rotten moods, the people here are so full of love...so great to come and see all the great things that everyone wrote.

I loved the circle dancing story....sweet Latte! I can just picture you two arguing about the RULES!

So, the full moon is due on Tuesday so we are having a party. Sound good for a change?
We are going to howl at the Full Flower Moon of May with flowers in our hair and flowers everywhere...
sounds like that song...please tell Latte that her throne is dusted off and ready for her and my two can't wait to see her!! HUGS you two!! :YMHUG:

we still go thru the inappetance thing occasionally and it can be frustrating.
not sure whether you are doing the mirtz. if it stopped having as much effect, i've learned it helps cleo a little more if i only give it every 4 days instead of every 3. she gets 2 decent days of eating out of it, which means a lot with an inappetant cat.
any special treats latte likes? with a big issue like inappetance all the normal dietary rules fly out the window so she can have anything she wants, whenever.

sounds like a GREAT day for latte today. she's happy --- that's the main thing. :)

Hi Carolyn!
So nice to hear that Latte is giving her mama bean kitty love rubs..
Sending the sweet Latte good appy and health vibes..

I lways worry when I odn't see you hear (((Carolyn))). I know what you mean about not feeling positive some days, and not wanting to spread it around. I love her dancing and the fact that she has an interest in going outside. These are both good signs that she is enjoying life.

Great story today Carolyn.
Although I do have to say that when I did not see an AMPS in your subject line and jusy Latte's name, well, okay my heart stopped.

I love hearing about the rules you have with her and how she listesn. :-D
Hugs to both of you.

Hi Carolyn,

I haven't posted in a while, but was very happy to see your post today. Sending good eating vines to Latte and lots of love to you!

Good Morning Carolyn and Latte,

Good to see you two here. Hope the day is off to a nice start for the two of you and maybe we'll have a little dancing for the full moon.
