Woke up on the couch around 5 am to the sound of Blue galloping all over the house. My lazy narcoleptic kitty with the tumor-foot in a bandage was racing from the enclosed front porch litter area to the kitchen and back, over and over. It's bad enough I'm getting up at 6 am every day to feed and test and shoot, but now I just wish I could SLEEP IN till 6 am!

Kasha ate most, if not all, of breakfast with encouragement (me following her around with food bowl and sometimes spooning it up for her).

Last night she was feisty and wanted to play ("play" to Kasha means "attack and bite" to the rest of us). She ate a ton of chicken yesterday. Many times I refilled the bowl (approx 2 Tbsp per refill). She has definitely been making up for the small canned food meals by eating up her chicken this week. I have to cook more - I took another bowl out of the freezer and realized we're out of chicken, had to settle for turkey (which she also likes, but right now chicken rules).

She's begging me less for my food now - since I stopped sharing anything but chicken with her.

Oh, she just looked over the edge of her bed and noticed I don't have the chicken bowl there... Gotta get her a bowl of turkey.

,,,And she rejects the turkey (I wanted chicken, Mom. CHICKEN. FAIL.). But I opened a can of something new, a Pro-Plan that is supposedly lower carb and she just ate her 2nd breakfast of the morning. Least I won't have to worry about her appetite this morning.

Re: 5/22 Kasha AMPS 468

I can certainly relate to the early wakeup call! Oliver comes into the bedroom and claws at the top of the covers to wake me up, then sits there for my reaction. If none that he likes in 5 seconds, he starts the clawing to try and pull the covers again. This sequence continues, even if I say it`s too early or go away or gimme 5min, he does not care cuz it`s foods time. And it`s usually before 5am and shot time is 6am. I take his +11, give him some raw chicken chunks, and that`s that.
Does Blue do that all the time, just in the mornings, or whenever he feels like it

You said you cook the chicken; have you tried just giving the chicken raw in chunks? I do still have to steam it for the princess; Shadoe took one sniff, gave me the 'are you crazy' look, and walked away. But Oliver LOVES the raw chunks. It sure saves me time when I don't have to cook his chicken.

Oliver also eats extra in the morns; quite often after the first meal has settled, he will stroll back to his bowl in about 15min or so, and I need to give him more.
Do you leave food overnite for them? I don't mind a big breakfast as it gets them started on their day.

Re: 5/22 Kasha AMPS 468

Blue has just started the annoy-until-wake-up routine fairly recently. Most likely because I don't leave as much food out, as I used to - I kind of clean up the food that's still there when I go to bed (but I've learned to leave a small amount out or Blue will sneak up quietly and meow loudly at me while I sleep, scaring the crap outta me). He doesn't usually move very quickly (he's my lazy sleepy cat) but, that said, even with his bum foot he is the bounciest, high jumping kitty in the house. Oddly enough, this is why I'm considering doing the leg amputation with him, because nothing seems to get him down. Even when he weighed nearly 16 lbs and was a big chunk of jello, he would outjump everyone else - getting onto the bed when no one else could get up there anymore (it's a high bed and that was before I added the kitty steps).

I'm not sure what the galloping was about this morning, but I'd prefer to take it as a sign that he's feeling pretty good. Maybe my Big White Cat angel was swooping down at him, playing dive-bomb with his brother...

I haven't tried raw chicken - basically because it really grosses me out - LOL. It's all I can do to get it in some water to boil for Kasha. I'm afraid I'd spend so much time decontaminating all the things the chicken touched, it might not save me very much time. Maybe I can get over it. I've considered cooking it less to see if she'd try it. I'll try to get up the courage. It's really funny - I'm kind of a germaphobe and I wash my hands a fair amount, but people point out to me that I have no issues with those little kitty litter box paws padding all over my house and couches and me. Guess i just pick and choose. When people tell me that they think cats are dirty, I just point out that my kitties are cleaner than their kids.

so good to hear how well she is eating  and I and also relate to I would like to sleep in till 6  since Do Lou has gotten where he likes to keep me up now :-D wishing you and Kasha and great Saturday

Re: 5/22 Kasha AMPS 468

Gizmo likes to have kitty races, too. Although, it's usually once I'm awake. He will run down my hallway, bounce onto the sofa, run across the sofa and window sill, bounce onto an oversized chair, and run back down the hall and then repeats. It's pretty funny to see especially since his big, plumed tail is standing straight up.

It looks like the bounce is clearing. A little yellow would be nice to see today!!

Re: 5/22 Kasha AMPS 468

Almost there - so close to the yellow I can almost taste it... I have to restrain myself from testing her again until her +4, when we're so close to dropping down into another color, I just get the urge to use up all of my test strips wanting to see the moment she hits it - LOL...

Re: 5/22 Kasha AMPS 468

I am still on the chicken thing here

the next time you have that piece of raw chicken, cut off a couple small pieces and put them in a bowl for Kasha then toss the rest in the water like normal. See if Kasha even likes it first! Remember, my Shadoe thinks I am whacked if I think she is even going to touch the raw never mind eat it, but Ollie justs loves it. He licks it a couple times, rolls it around in the dish a bit, then the big jaw opens and his teeth just pick up the chunk and he starts gnawing away at it.
Just leave in Kasha's food dish and see what she does with it. If she pounces on it and loves it, then decision has been made. The bean must find a way to supply this tasty food on a regular basis! What about a glass pie plate or ordinary plate? It won't absorb any smell or get bacteria, and you can keep that plate as Kasha's chicken prep plate. I think it's definitely healthier than what we are getting out of the cans, so as a treat or a dessert, chicken and turkey would be great.

I sometimes wonder about the wakeup calls being more like they feel the need for their shots; surely they can feel worse when the insulin is wearing off because we can see how their mannerisms change shortly after getting their shots.
And that's the thought that gets me up: Oliver is saying he needs his insulin, oh, and some foods if it's not too much to ask

Booboo does the racing around like CRAZY sometimes and it's always just out of the blue and from a standstill. It's STREAK STREAK STREAK then a complete stop and back to the standstill.
Shadoe does not do this much; it's very rare.
Oliver, I have seen him gallop, not tear around. I don't think he can whip around at any speed faster than a gallop, and even that is pushing it.
I wonder what gets into them?

i have done some crazy hourly curves in the past; it is important if you are also giving a fast acting insulin like R along with Lantus or Lev because you need to see what is happening each hour, but I think every 2 hrs is plenty if you are doing a curve. It's up to you but you may as well save a strip because you might see little change at all.

Re: 5/22 Kasha AMPS 468

Gayle,

I don't think you understand. I can't NOT test her hourly when I'm home - LOL... Actually, when she's running high and it doesn't look like there are going to be any changes, I won't test as often. But when I'm sitting here, waiting with bated breath for her to hit yellow... you expect me to wait 2 hours?!?!?! :-D

Besides, when I approach her with my testing kit, she just starts to purr - how can I disappoint her?

On a side note: I'm working on putting together a little album of pics of Big White Cat and I will put a link to it in my signature for the time being. I want everyone to be able to see how gorgeous my baby was...

Re: 5/22 Kasha AMPS 468

Oh an album will be so nice to see! I would love to see some nice pictures of the big guy.
