Okay, not much of an old timer yet, but I wanted to report that Basil is doing wonderfully.

He is affectionate, happy and (unfortunately) hell-bent on bringing in mice. Of course, with no long pointy teeth in the front, he doesn't hurt them (whew!) and we have to chase them around and let them out. He also brought in a good-sozed bunny a couple of weeks ago.

He did drop lower when we fed only 0% to 3% foods. We've gone back to mixing in some 5% to 8%, since without adequate variety, Basil gets fussy and skips meals. Not good. Sometimes I mix together a 0% and an 8% in one serving. Other times I alternate. The only two numbers over 120 we've gotten in a long time have both been at times when we believed he ate within an hour or hour and a half of the test. And always morning, which is his highest time of day, it seems.

Happy Caturday to all LLers!

It's great to hear how well Basil is doing! Hearing about how he's bringing you critters as presents makes be glad I'm a city dweller and the cats do not have access to the great outdoors. The only wildlife they get to play with is a gnat or spider.

Basil really loves you so much..eh? All those trophys for you...wow... nailbite_smile
Just hope that you were able to rescue them ALL and don't have any stragglers. He will have to be checked at the door...do a security check on him before you let him in.

So glad to hear he is doing so well...miss you guys... :YMHUG:

And don't forget the Full Moon party on Thursday...Raja was supposed to post it at the Falls and I just hope all the OTJ kitties will hear about it. See you then!

Hahaha! Love the wild man Basil catching food for you! As Pat said he must really love you, bringing home 'fresh' dinner for you to eat!

Glad he is doing so well, I love hearing this.

Sienne, I was raised in NYC, so when I first moved to the more ruralish suburbs, I was terrified half the time at the stuff that used to come in through the cat door! I'm a little better now.

Pat--We'll be there on Thursday, and I'll tell Basil to leave all the critters home!

Hi Lydia and Basil!!! So glad to hear is doing so well. Yes he must really love you with all the trophies. I don't know which would be better (having them brought alive or dead :? )

Have a wonderful weekend dancing_cat dancing_cat

It's great to hear that Basil is doing so well and has become an avid hunter.
You are safe with the cat door now:

A bunny  My guys would turn and run in fear if they came across a bunny  Great Basil report!

Must be a Candian Cat phobia. OMG Max would take off and hide for the day.
So glad to hear how well Mr. Basil is doing Lydia.
I know Max is really enjoying Basil's wardrobe and with the Zippy pants from spot he is doing very well with the ladies, or so he tells me!

Another happy oldtimer condo :-D

Comical visions of you trying to chase mice out whilst Basil is herding them in the back door

Lydia,

Nice to hear from you and Basil. So glad that he is doing so good. I hear you about the mice. Sara would'nt do it. She'll watch with interest, but thats about it. She has a civie, Sammy that brings in mice. We have those little have a heart like traps to catch it, and than put it outside. His passion is frogs. The problem is we have a cat door so you don't always know when hes brought one in. They are alive, he just gets bored with them and lets them go. I was hoping he will out grow it.

Have a great weekend.

Hey Basil, You are a great mouser! I like to hunt mice, too, but my mamabean wants me to let them go. I also caught a chipmunk once (it was a baby, though, so I let it go). We had lots of mice in our building in Brooklyn and I used to chase them, but never caught one. When my beans had a brownstone row house in Brooklyn (before my time), Alice (GA) used to catch mice all the time. She got to eat every one! Next time I have a mouse hunt-and-cook at camp, I'll let you know. You can show us how you do it! See you on Thursday at the Full Flower Moon party. All us guys are going to wear flowers.

Hi Lydia, So glad to hear that Basil is eating better and keeping his numbers down. Good job!

Hi Everybody!

Thanks for all the kind words and hunting stories.

Yup, we have a cat door, too, and Basil has "gifted" us with mice (sometimes several in one evening), rabbits, snakes, chipmunks, a frog (once), birds, voles and once, a leg of something big that a coyote had obviously left behind. He never outgrew it, I'm afraid. I thought perhaps he had, but it was just his diabetes talkin'. Now, he's back to being mighty hunter for sure. I dread to think what he would bring home if he were allowed out of the fenced yard after sundown!

Mighty Hunter Basil--Moonie says whatta man!!
Happy to hear such a beautiful WCR!! We miss you so much, but are looking forward to seeing you at the full moon party--Moonie will be looking her best!! HUGS~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
