Hi Folks!

First of all thank you for all your advice yesterday. It always feels good to not feel alone. Today we bought a new electric stove so his paws won't be open to open flame from the gas stove. Sears delivered it and it looks nice. :-D Oh the things we do for Scooter around here. So hopefully that will help. Of course I still have to be aware of him. His paw is blistered today and it is bandaged with soothing aloe on it. He also has pain meds. He is resting in the highest perch in the house in a sunbeam. When I look at him like that he is so innocent!

I did buy a couple toys and add treats to the inside which the other kitties love but Scooter has no interest. I think it is because he is so light weight and the toy is kid of heavy. I have been playing with him more and encouraging the kids to play with him when they are here. They love that Scooter seems to have come to life! :-D I do miss my lap kitty though.

After reading what you al have to say and remembering how sick he was I have decided not to re add kibble to our house. Thanks for reminding me how bad kibble is what it did to my house hold. You are right about how clean my counters are. I am just going to grin and bare it and move forward. In the mean time I will post a monthly update on Scooters antics and naughty food intake. :-D

I am so grateful for you all!!

Linda

aw, you're a good mom! even buying a new stove for the little guy. he's a special one, isn't he?

You don't have to wait a month to check in - it's always good to hear what you and the little guy are doing!

I second that. You are a very good mamabean, and we love to hear how you and Scooter and the crowd are doing.

Good decision on the kibble.

Sending healing vines for Scooter's paws.

Wow! A new stove to protect Scooter! You are so loving to him.

Hey, I was wondering when you said he is so "light weight" and the toy is heavy, how light weight is he? When was the last time that he was weighed and how much was it? Did they weigh him at the vet's office when you took him for the burned paw?

Could it be possible that he is slightly underweight, and that is why he is wanting to sneak eat everything? I have a porker girl here, Daphne, and she is just too fat and I feel horrible about it. She would eat and eat and eat if I let her. I seriously believe that she equates food with love. So, I completely understand if he is not underweight and just wants to eat! I've got one of those here too!!

I have 14 cats and I do feed them kibble in the morning and then wet food at night. I can't afford canned food for all of them 2x a day. :YMSIGH:

Anyway, I need to figure out a way to put Daphne on a diet. I worry very much about her becoming diabetic.

Linda:

Do still be careful with an electric cooktop. It holds heat for quite some time. Sears carries induction stoves. Did you investigate those? You need cookware that has iron in it since it cooks by magnetic induction. I had one of these in my place in Chicago. They are incredible. It takes about 90 seconds for water to boil. They don't get as hot as regular electric stoves.

We keep an old pot with water in it on our cooktop; whenever we're done with a burner, we put that pot on it until it cools. If we use multiple burners, we just get out more pots to cover them with when we're done. Can never trust what goes through a crazy kitty's brain! I hope Scooter's paw heals up quickly!!

Good idea to block access to the burners after cooking so that they can cool. We have an electric cooktop in our house and I have never really gotten used to it (after 7 years in this house!). You can see the red glow if the burner is on high, but you can't when it is on low. So pay attention to the light that tells you when a burner is on, and the light that tells you that the burner is still hot after you turn it off.
Sienne's description of a convection stovetop sounds great. I never knew about these.

Healing vines for Scooter's foot!

Have a good day, Linda,

Aw thanks ladies you are all so kind.

We did have a induction stove a while back but it didn't last very long before it needed replacing so that is why I didn't even think about one again. One of the big things that came into my buying process is who will deliver to rural Minnesota. I also was watching price and color. I have pots on every burner now and just put water in them when they are hot. It seems to be working today very well. I am going to try the freeze dried treats for the crunch. My Vet thought that was a great idea to. I am going to the city shopping this weekend so Petco will be on my list.

Scooter is a purebred Egyptian Mau kitty. It's not his fault he came that way. LOL So his weight is very tiny. His body has a very small frame. He is 7.6 pounds which is a good weight for him. His breed has a tendency towards arthritis as well. Jack brought him home one night and he stayed. He was also declawed by someone and my Vet thinks that may be why he seemed to not feel the flame right away.

Anyway my journey today is to find sun! It has been so cold and wet here for so long that 79 degrees feels like heaven!

As always thank you so much for showing up and helping us!

Linda
