I only fed Champ one small meal of his homemade raw yesterday and we had only blues and greens. The PM cycle the day before was solid yellow while I fed him the raw. Of course, he had had a 41 during his AM cycle that day, so maybe this was his version of a bounce. I'll experiment with the raw again, but I'll wait until he has a cycle that has no extreme low numbers to bounce from and then feed the raw the next cycle and see how it goes.

About a week ago, I was walking to my office from the living room and stepped in something wet. Champ had coughed up his first hairball of his life!!! I had no idea that it was the shape of poo, but completely all hair!!! Champ was acting like he didn't feel well yesterday and then had an episode of coughing. At least it looked like one of his coughing episodes (he has a bit of asthma and has periodic episodes of coughing to get up whatever is in his lungs). When a cat coughs, it actually looks like they're trying to hack something up so I'm wondering now, since he hacked up a hairball last week, if last night he was trying to get rid of another hairball. What does it look like when a cat is trying to get a hairball up? Champ is shedding something awful. I used to shave him every summer because he has such a dense undercoat and it just lets loose in the summer. I was spending so much money on doctor appointments because the hair, which is super fine, would get in my eyes and I get severe allergic reactions to it. The membrane surrounding my eyeball actually swells and fills with fluid and there's intense itching. I haven't had him shaved since he became diabetic because, I know this sounds morbid, if the worst happens and he dies, I don't want him to die without having his fur. I'm just going to brush him every other day and see if that keeps the shedding down.

Well, off to work. Looks like my busy week is continuing.....

Have a wackily wonderful Wednesday everyone!!!!!

Hi Patty, good luck with feeding the raw experiment and Champ's numbers. That's what I had to do with Maggie until I found something that agrees with her numbers. Isn't it strange when it says low carbs, and the kitties still spike. It's the ingredients sometimes and also the ECID! Oh poor Champ and the hairball! Maggie doesn't throw up hairballs either, but it seems most here do. I brush Mags several times a day only because she asks for it. Otherwise it would be every other day. I remember when my GA kitty used to throw up hairballs, it actually looked like he was choking until it came up! He also would sometimes get a cough, and I would gently pat his back. Let's see what others have to say on it. Have a wonderful day you two.

Ooooo, almost back in the greens!    One more little point, Champ!

I hope the raw experiment works. It really is good for them. Tess seldom gets hairballs either, but we too brush a lot because she loves it. Have you tried the Zoom Groom? It is soft silicone and really pulls out the undercoat when they are shedding.

Nice!!!

Hairballs...such a joy. Around here, it's always a mystery who hacks them up, because I never catch them in action. I do remember the first time I saw one, too though  !

Good luck with the food experiment! After my last attempt, I am totally gunshy of messing with Trix's food. As soon as I started it, her numbers went haywire, and it seems that the only thing that would reign them back in was the dosecrease. It IS interesting that even foods labeld "LC" can cause an increase....EC truly ID!!

Have a great afternoon!

I use a tool called "Furbuster" which looks a lot like the "Furminator." I think the teeth on it are too short to really get all the undercoat, though. I just might have to get a Furminator since they come in different sizes and see if it works any better.....though the Furbuster works pretty well. I usually end up with enough fur to knit a sweater after brushing for just five minutes!!!

Nice green Champ! The first hairball?? Really?? We have them weekly here with both of our kitties. I wish Tarragon would let me brush even a little.

Guess what we had for supper? :-D Yep. I'm addicted. Have a great night Patty!

Nice day for Champ!!

 on the hairball - Mannie rarely gets them - hardly ever. Which itself is odd, sine has has so much fur. I guess it would rather mat on the outside instead. What I would give to have him like to be brushed. :-D

I hope your day has been a good one.
