5/17 Matty Amps 326

Matty seems to fallen. He was obviously not feeling well today so I tested and he is reading 326. Much of this is probably my own fault due to financial constraints I switched his cat food from Wellness to Friskies sea food pack (all of which are below 10% carbs according to the canned food chart.) He may have gotten hold of some dried Royal Canin recently which may be the cause or he could have ate some popcorn the neighbors threw out. Nevertheless it looks like I'll have to start him on some Lantus again. What do you all recommend.

(I'm doomed. After bills (not including food). I'll have less than fifty dollars next month. This couldn't have happened at a worse time and I feel it's my fault due to my own foolish lifestyle.)

Hi Troy

sorry to see this - the only thing I can suggest right now, if its possible, see if u can track how his day goes with a few spotchecks.
observe the litterbox, straining, etc...any water drinking? Do you have ketones test strips - maybe check for ketones, rule that out as well.

how old is your insulin (unopened) if you have.
what meter are u using again? check Supply Closet for any offers.
You could try PMing Cindy&Mousie, she may have some supplies kicking around to help you out.

Hang in there, others will offer feedback on what to do with shooting.

I still have four vials of unopened lantus that is very likely good. I'm using the contour meter and still have all the supplies. I'll test again at +3 amps if that sounds good. Matty is sleeping, I'll test for ketones strips.

5/17 Matty +3 amps 320

I may have forgotten the correct format for posting +3 hours after morning test is 320. Matty puked up the morning breakfast.

Hi Troy. Sorry to see you back but hopefully it's for a short visit.

Could you say a little more about Troy not feeling well other than having vomited? Could he have an infection or something else medical going on that's stressing his system and raising his BG level?

I was thinking if Matty still has a high level this evening to start him on .25u of lantus pmps. Haven't managed to get a ketone test yet, but he isn't hanging by the waterbowl and is actually resting outside. He definitly doesn't have much energy and isn't holding down his food.

If vomiting continues, it does really require a vet visit. A cat not eating or not holding down food can become serious. If this persists, please get Matty to the vet sooner rather than later. If you have a relationship with your vet, I'm sure they will let you work out a payment plan.

Ok I'll take him in tomorrow if he doesn't eat or vomits the food. I'm feeding equal portions three times tonight, I usually give him a little more the first meal. Which is better?
I'm going to skip the +6 test (though I thought of testing him at +6 which is at 17 hundred hours here and starting him on Lantus tonight after what would be a +6 test then working the lantus schedule based off his first shot. Now I'm not sure if he should even be started tonight. I have no way of getting him to the vet any earlier.

Matty is doing well both the boys are sleeping and resting. He is holding down the food I'll be doing a spot test when he wakes.
