My dear, sweet Tom. Soon to be 17 years old kitten.

Tom came into my life at 6 weeks of age, from the humane society in Ottawa. He was with me through divorce and a few moves: To Montreal after my divorce - where I met my DH and where we adopted our civvie Minnie (DH had to fight for space next to me a few times with Tom being so possessive...)
Another move to Toronto, where we are now, and where our DD was born and where our very recent addition - Sunrise now 7 months old - was adopted.

2 years ago, seeing him lose weight, drinking more than usual, I took him to the vet and found out he was diabetic. Thought that was it. 15 great years and I was losing him. Was sent home only with instructions to give him 2 units 2x day and with a contact for the nearest emergency clinic. And by the way, you need this dry food that only we sell.

Then I thought, no way. It's *only* diabetes. Humans live with this. I have to learn more. Then I found this place. Learned how to home test, switched his food to low carb wet and his BG started to drop. Within 3 weeks, he was OTJ. We were soooo lucky.

Today, altough somewhat slower, Tom is still kitten Tom. Bringing us his black toy mouse, wrestling with Minnie, barking a Sunrise as she races past. I love him so much and I am so grateful.

Thank you to all of you here he guided me and held my hand. I could not have done it without you.

ETA: Tested this AM, 4.6 (83) 1 hour after eating. I should test more often... Good boy !!

Congratulations to you Sonia....good job Tom! Wow!! 2 years, eh? That is monumental! I loved your report and I am so happy for you both!
Tom is the handsome boy who reminds me so much of my Jealousy (GA)....bedroom eyes....looks so much like my boy...

I am so happy that you were able to follow your instincts too and find a way to deal with FD properly. So many of us are misguided in the beginning! The forum is a wonderful place with such great people. You and Tom have a wonderful story...many thanks for sharing it with us. and give Tom a big hug and kiss from us!!!
party_cat Happy OTJ Anniversary Tom and Sonia!! party_cat

Wow, that is awesome! Congrats Sonia and Tom. Those are exactly the same instructions I got when my kitty was first diagnosed, dry food from them, too!

Congratulations on your 2 Year Anniversary !!!

Two Years OTJ, I guess lil man had the right momma adopt him!! Way to go!!! Soooooooooo excited for you both! This is just no less than the very best!!

Congrats Sonia!! Two years OTJ is a huge accomplishment. Tom's pancreas is strong like bull.

I love when our older babies still act kittenish, but I also love enjoying their 'maturity' (seems to me they're more snuggly as they get older). Give that beautiful/handsome boy some serious scritches for me!

Thank you for the birthday wishes!
Celebrated with DD as we had her 6th birthday party yesterday (her birthday is today). Wrapping paper and empty boxes are a blast!
