Hi everyone!!
It's been quite a while since I've posted ( or filled out a SS) so I thought I'd drop in and give you guys an update.
I know Saturday (old timers day) is the day I should be doing this - but it seems that it's my most busy day of the week and I always miss it... so this will have to do
Doodle has been struggling with very low potassium levels for months (2.6) and despite ever increasing supplementation hasn't been able to get his levels up.
For the last week I've been giving him 12mEq a day and hopefully that will be his magic dose - we have another check up on Monday, so please send all the good energy you can spare.
His blood pressure is also elevated - it's been running between 190 and 210. The vet thought that perhaps he was hyperthyroid and wanted to wait to begin BP meds until we got the results back on that. However, the results came back in the "grey zone", so I plan to insist on starting meds next week to reduce his blood pressure.
She said her med of choice was amlodipine.
Other than that, he's been doing really well!! He hasn't seemed weak or lethargic like one might expect with low potassium - as a matter of fact, he's remained a very playful and affectionate cat - with lots of noisy late night games
His BG has been very impressive - He's barely topped 100 for the last month! He's bounced a few times up into the 200's but he's come back down in a matter of hours - always back down in the 70 range. All on a tiny dose of 0.3 (TID)
