? 5/11 Level dropping too fast?

I just switched Jazzy to Lantus this morning. He was given .5 unit and I'm just wondering if his levels are dropping too quickly?

Hmm, he is dropping at a good clip! Still in safe numbers, but you could feed a small low-carb snack now to see if you can slow him down.

What would you suggest? A tsp of raw food maybe? Or canned? I don't want to bring him right back up, but I also don't want him to go too low. Such a teeter-totter this is to get the hang of

Yes, this kind of thing requires a little experimenting. Anything low-carb should be safe though, it shouldn't bring him up high, and it might keep him from going too low.

He may bounce later anyway from this decline. That's OK. Next time if you were to see him dropping at this rate (about 50 points an hour or faster) early in the cycle, you can try feeding a snack then and see if it helps.

As long as you're monitoring, you'll be able to keep him safe.

My cat drops this fast as well. What has helpied is a mid day LC small meal, as well as a pm mid-cycle small meal. Jazzy should be getting close to her lowest point according your SS, and start to go up from there to pmps, but ECID...a LC meal will help with the drop. Get a test in by +7. Good results so far!

ps you may want to add in a row on the SS to let everyone know when you changed over to Lantus. :)

Thank you for your replies.
Sorry, I thought I did add the info about switching. How do I edit my signature to make all that extra jumble go away and just have it day Jazzy's Spreadsheet and whatever I want to add? Not too tech savvy. Lol

I saw on your SS where you are using Lantus, but you may want to add a date, i.e: lantus as of 5/10

as for your signature.....I'm pretty sure you can just highlight it and change the name without losing the link.

on your spreadsheet, you can also click on the number of the row where you switched over to lantus, and then go to the insert menu and add row (above) then you can type in Switch to Lantus in cells, if you want.

I like this option best, because it's super-easy for someone to get the information when looking over a spreadsheet, it's all right there and visible. As someone who often forgets information she just read two seconds ago , I appreciate this!

Ok I've added the cell for switching, although I could only get it to write in one box. Just did his +6 test, and he's back up to 14.3, without having given him any snack at all. Apparently he is going to be all over the place today. I will be checking again at +8.

Great Job. You probably won't need to check again until PMPS. The pink is probably a bit of a bounce from the blue. It's completely normal. You'll most likely see more improvement in the next few days as the depot builds. Hang in there!

Welcome to the forum!!

FWIW, some cats have a marked initial response to a chance in insulin. It looks like Jazzy is one of those kitties. Also, with Lantus, dosing decisions are based on the lowest number in the cycle. Thus, it's important to get more tests than your pre-shot numbers. You'll want to get a minimum of a pre-shot test for both the AM and PM cycles and at the very least, one additional test during each cycle.

A couple of housekeeping details...

To insert a row on your spreadsheet, click on the row number on the far left for today This will highlight the row. Most likely on your edit tab, there's a command for insert. This will insert a row. Highlight the new row. There should be a Merge cells command (or merge and center). Click on that button and it will remove the individual cells. Type something in like, Switched from Caninsulin to Lantus.

You may want to look over the New to the Group sticky note. This reviews the basics for how this forum works. We have a few quirky ways of doing things. One of those basics is what you put in the subject line of your thread. This is a busy forum so it's helpful to keep information consistent. You want to include the following in your subject line:
Today's date----Your cat's name----AMPS-#, +time-#...PMPS-#, etc.

This lets us see what's going on with Jazzy's numbers without having to open your thread. For some of the experienced members, we may be able to spot a concern just by looking at the numbers.

Please let us know if you have questions. If you do, put a note in the subject line.

Ok, thank you for your help. I'll do this in the future.

Ok, sounds good for waiting to test until the PMPS. Honestly, he's getting pretty pissed off with all the testing today Lol. So I'm sure he'll appreciate the break.
