Cats are made of contrariness.

Due to a lack of options that Minerva will happily eat at the moment we have been mostly relying on frozen raw patties made of goat meat and bone, lamb liver, and pork heart. She loves them. They are technically a supplement not a complete food according to the packet but we were happy they have offal in them, and the only complete foods she would eat were medium-carb and even then she didn't eat a lot of it, so we have been trying to balance it all out.

Yesterday she was offered goat patties and some raw salmon mince. She ignored the salmon, and while she ate the goat patties over the day it was a lower amount then she has been trending, and then the same in the evening. I was fully expecting that if she didn't eat overnight we would be dosing cerenia and mirtazapine this morning.

Instead, she polished off her overnight meal down to licking her bowl clean, and woke us for food (which we made her wait for so we got a mostly-fasted pre-shot).

And then her pre-shot was totally different to how she has been trending! It could be because her overall food consumption in the last 24 hours was reduced, but I was so pleased to get a yellow. I gave her the 1.25 as wasn't sure if I should follow a big change in pre-shot with another change in insulin, plus we can't monitor, but if I increase tonight then we can monitor and get up overnight if we need to.

And then after her shot, I put out her goat and then out of curiosity I offered her a Fancy Feast and she demolished half a tin of FF on the spot. So, no drugs today, and I think her aversion of FF is waning which is awesome! All around a good morning.

It sounds like she’s recovering. I would still give cerenia but every other day fir a few days and cut out the mirt. If all good cut out the cerenia next. If the appetite decreases add cerenia back first. You don’t want to stimulate the appetite of a nauseous cat as you are well aware. No more food aversions wanted. Nice to see yellow. If back to pink I would increase to 1.5 tonight or tomorrow morning. It’s high enough that I don’t think you need to wait any longer. What do you think?

Thank you!

I was going to see how she does with her food today and her PMPS tonight, and make a call tonight. Especially as we have changed her food up again today and it is possible that the FF has less of an impact on her BG than the raw stuff. My thinking is that if it is still yellow tonight I might wait until I can actually get a nadir before decreasing, but if she is back to pink tonight I will increase and then monitor over the evening. Although no idea what I will do tomorrow then haha.

They never make it easy! But they do make it worth it :)

Thank you!

You aren’t considering a decrease now are you? I doubt there’s been a drop under 90.

I am embarrassed to admit that I spent a really long time looking at your comment, very confused. We had just talked about increasing, and now you were saying not to? It took ages before I went oh DECREASING! That is a different word! Not enough caffeine and fumes today .

No, I am not considering decreasing. Yes, that is the word I typed, I am so so sorry! My options are hold for now until I get more data, or increase, and was going to decide tonight after seeing how she does when I get home tonight.

Honestly between the sleep deprivation of the last 2 months and the covid (which I caught at the very beginning of the event season), it is horrifying how many small stupid brain slips I do at the moment.

Thank you :) I am working on it! 1.30 in the afternoon here right now but hoping to have an early night tonight, fingers crossed! You are most kind!

The good news: she ate well with no drugs, again: finished her FF and ate most of her goat, so she is still eating!

The bad news: she puked a bit of FF. Could be that is was not good for her tummy, could be coincidence (she was snacking on her grass last night). Wondering if I should give her a cerenia seeing as she puked?

I'm going to go with the increase as discussed with @tiffmaxee (thank you, nite the correct word), unless anyone on this side of the world is awake and wants to say otherwise in the next 10 minutes or so! Wish I could remember the tags!

I'll monitor her over the evening and set an early morning alarm if it starts to look concerning.

Thank you to everyone.

Did the increase, 17.7 at +3, confident she's unlikely to plummet. Especially given she smashed a bunch of goat right after I tested her.

Would be ideal to get up in 3 hours for a +6 but actually don't think I would survive tomorrow if I do that, I'm shattered. Need sleep and feeling bad about not getting up.

Cleaned up FF puke and it was mostly fur, so either a coincidence or that was brewing fir a bit and the FF was the final straw. She was snacking on grass yesterday, now we know why! Hope she feels better with that fur out!

And now zzz. Thanks again to you @tiffmaxee !

Sleep well. Good luck with the increase. Sounds like a hairball was the issue. I woke up to one of mine tried to hack up one but she failed. Hoping she won’t throw up breakfast.

Since still pink at +3 there was no need to wake up for a +6. Save that for when a before bed test is lower than the pmps.
