Morning all! amps 83! I am hoping this is not the last day we see great numbers from Scrabble for the next two weeks. I am going to pick up his ab today at 2 so he will be starting it tonight! nailbite_smile I PRAY he will tolerate it well and not raise his bg numbers. It sucks because we are at day 7 now on this dose and I could probably reduce but I want to wait and see how this is going to affect his numbers. The thing I have a hard time wrapping my head around is that he is totally fine now, great appetite, sore is healing well and I almost feel like he doesn't need the ab. I know the logical side is saying we have to make sure this bacteria is gone but I hate to put Scrabble through more torture. I keep telling myself it is only 2 more weeks, but the other part of me says 2 more weeks and we could be going on a trial (anti-jinx!) Oh well sorry to ramble just thoughts in my head!!! I know it is the best thing for my boy to get rid of this just hope it won't affect him too much! I hate bacteria's!!!! Have a great day everyone!!!

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE AMPS 83

Good Morning Michelle
Yes, it is not the best thing you were looking at now but Scrabble is doing so well and he will
continue to do well. That infection needs to leave his body and you will see how the A affects him.
Maybe his numbers will be fine.
Remember, its' not how fast you get to the finish line but that you get there, permenantly.
Time moves very quickly and I have a good feeling for Scrabble.
So one thing at a time and get those meds in him.
Hugs for today.

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE AMPS 83

Oh man, I haven't had much time to sit and read condos the past couple of days so I am SO behind! I just read the past two days of Scrabble's adventures. {{Hugs}} This sucks a bit Michelle but look at the awesome numbers Scrabble is giving you even with an infection! I'm very impressed =) Dude is trying to get a reduction even though he's got the nasties running around inside him. He really does want OTJ (antijinx!!) doesn't he?

Tugger threw me some blues yesterday too, had me stressing a tad, but he's getting back to green again. I had the same reaction you did though lol. WTF? Lots of greens then wham, BLOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Silly boys just like to watch us get all worried.

If you wind up with the pills and suggestions given don't work, try my way... I think you saw the link I posted of me trimming Tugger's nails in my red PJ's? If not I can post it again for you. I combine that with Nicole's suggestion of rubbing the nose with a wet finger. Next time I have to pill a cat I am going to add the butter trick and water in the syringe to my system in hopes it will go faster. Tugger is a pro at spitting pills back out so even my leg prison system isn't always 100% I think combined with butter and water though....

Here's hoping for a much better day for you today!

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE AMPS 83

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE AMPS 83 +3 64

+3 64
Scrabble is running around playing with his sister this morning and hubby keeps telling me wow look how great he feels, I am feeling guilty thinking he may not feel good later!

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE AMPS 83 +3 64

He may surprise you. Everyone thought I was going to get sick from the treatments I got after my bladder cancer... but I didn't have one single side effect. Maybe he'll be like me

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE AMPS 83 +3 64

I'm gonna climb on a soapbox. Do not screw around with an infection. It can kill a person and it can kill Scrabble. I had what looked like a pimple on my chest about a year ago. Thank goodness I knew what to look for. It turned out that this was an abscess and I spent 3 days in the hospital on high dose IV antibiotics and came home with a PIC line (it's an IV port) and was on high dose IV antibiotics for another 2 weeks and needed to have the site surgically drained. This is not stuff to mess around with. I had no fever, didn't feel in the least bit sick, and appetite was fine. Like I said, if I didn't know what to look for, I could have easily ignored this until it was a major health risk. Do NOT even contemplate discontinuing the ABs until your vet tells you to stop. (Climbing down off of soapbox.)

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE AMPS 83 +3 64

Thanks Sienne I appreciate your thoughts, I know it is the right thing to do to put him on the AB and I keep telling myself it is only 2 weeks and if his numbers go up they will come down again after going off of the AB right? The vet seemed very concerned by the bacteria so that is what made me worry! Going to pick up the medicine in a little while.

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE PMPS 96 STARTING AB

PMPS 96
Ok just gave him his first dose of antibiotics! nailbite_smile nailbite_smile I am praying all goes well for the next 2 weeks! Poor guy had to get poked, stuck with a needle and then had medicine squirted in his mouth! Please think positive thoughts for him!!! I am so stressed about this!!

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE PMPS 96 STARTING AB

Hi Michelle-

I have been keeping up and meaning to post the last couple days. You've been having the time and I've been feeling for you. My old cat Cosmo years ago got a pseudomonas infection (combined with another with a name I cannot pronounce) and was a sick, sick boy for a long time. I think this is a smart thing you staying on top of his treatment for it. I understand your concern with his numbers...this whole FD thing makes you worry about everything. We are so tuned in and bonded with our babies through this. But remember now how worried you were about his sore and your intuition was right. Had you NOT gotten him in think how much worse this all could have gotten. AND, then you got to get the dental out of the way...ALSO something you were nervous about (as am i with ours looming) and how it might impact his progress. He SAILED through that with barely a blip. He is obviously a resilient boy. He takes it on the chin and keeps going down the road.
I do relate to how you feel, i really do, i am so worried about Hank's dental. He is doing so well right now and I don't want to mess that up. But what if i DON'T do it ..and it gets worse from that? You can't make it be what you want or when...you've figured that part out. He has his own game plan. But I have a feeling knowing Scrabble, it is all going to be sooner rather than later, no matter what gets thrown at him. He's a man on a mission. (falling down ladders).

thinking about you,

betty

PS: beautiful number as usual
PSS: And it's NOT a pill..even better. Squirt, then treat! He'll forget it even happened. Remember when ear pokes used to be scary and seem awful?
Hank actually jumps up ahead of me now and purrs while waiting for his.

one more (maybe not final) thought: He KNOWS you are taking care of him and making him well. He KNOWS it. It only makes you even closer.

i fully agree. thank you for posting this, sienne.

repeating my words from yesterday:
There have been a small number of cats whose numbers have gone up on Baytril, but higher numbers (eta: in themselves, absent a DKA) won't kill him. Infections can get really, really bad; you need to knock it out. I see from your post yesterday that a culture was done - there was a sensitivity part done too, that indicated Baytril as an appropriate antibiotic?

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE PMPS 96 STARTING AB

Thanks Betty, I really do appreciate your kind words, I am so bonded to my baby and I feel so bad that I have to do all this stuff to him, I hope he knows that I am helping him. The hard part for me is this week he has really been back to himself and has seemed playful, energetic etc that it doesn't seem like anything is wrong with him you know? I know the bacteria could still be looming but it is not affecting him in the least. I just pray the next 2 weeks go good and it doesn't have much impact on his numbers!! Thanks again!!!!

Yes the culture was done and the vet said clavamox was resistant to the infection (that is what he was on & he had no affects from it) and when he cleaned out the absess he injected him with baytril and said that it is the ab to use to kill this infection. I hope Scrabble is in the group that is not affected by it. What does DKA mean?

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE PMPS 96 STARTING AB

Michelle, even infants need to have ab's sometimes & that's hard to do too, to a baby--
As our cats are also our babies, it does upset us to do this-
Tips: Always give the AB's with food, otherwise, It can cause stomach upset..
Maybe Scrabble will be a little tired, so what cats love sleep
They work very well and will be healing Scrabble up--Remember i told you to try warm compress & that stuff came out?? Good thing too.
Now in A FEW DAYS, SCRABBLE'S boo boo will heal, & he will go back to his usual green self..
Not to worry, moonie has had AB's quite a few times, & was fine..Speedy Healing to Scrabble

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE PMPS 96 STARTING AB

I couldn't agree with Betty more if I'd typed it myself =) So I'll just shut up and say that you got a great number tonight and offer {{{Hugs}}} Scrabble's gonna be just fine (a new shirt would not be a bad thing though...)

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE PMPS 96 STARTING AB

Alot of really good advice being posted here. It is the best thing for Scrabble, and it's only 2 weeks. You just have to take care of an infection, even if it looks like all is well. It will be fine, as will Scrabble. Good luck!, and I hope Scrabble tolerates it well.

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE PMPS 96 STARTING AB

Good luck with the new AB. Better than continuing with one that wasn't working under the surface where it needs to be.

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE PMPS 96 STARTING AB

((((Michelle)))) Scrabble's health is more important than any numbers, take your time, he'll get where he's going when he's ready to get there.

It would be Mr Scrabble that earns a dosecrease on his first day of anitbiotics, lol! Gotta leave for tbp soon but DH is gonna test tonight. Thanks again for everyone offering your support, you guys are the best!!!

Re: 4/9 SCRABBLE PMPS 96 STARTING AB

Hi Michelle, You are doing the right thing for Scrabble. He'll get right back on the countdown as soon as the infection clears. You absolutely don't want to ignore an infection, or cut short a course of antibiotics because he seems to be feeling good. Give the entire course of antibiotics!!!!!
And Michelle, don't forget that CATS ARE TOUGH! Scrabble is a CAT!!

Stu says: Yeah, Scrabble, man--show your mamabean how tough you are!

LMAO Scrabble is bound and determined to worry you half to death with infection while throwing you double digits and giggling like a fool when you aren't looking. You must be a very entertaining worrier ;-)

Have a great night at tbp =) Your guys will be fine!

happy to hear scrabble is on an appropriate ab.
be on the lookout for any drops which may require a dose reduction. we've seen some kitties numbers rise when on baytril, but then they fall abruptly as baytril clears the infection...
