Re: 4/8 Zener PMPS 83;+1 94 vet news
Thank you all for your kind thoughts, vines and prayers. Zener is feeling better this evening, and gave us some low green drama at the end of his cycle. Where is the vetty stress when you need it? :? We managed pretty well and only stalled for about 20 minutes before up jumped the numbers and shoot we did - "shoot low to stay low" is not always easy to do when appy can vanish in the blink of a cateye.
Zener and I toddled off to see Dr Miller, Captain of Team Zener this afternoon, while he was running a green surf. She re-examined his anal glands, the right one was looking fine and the left one was still producing some liquid and was very tender. So, he got another little squeeze to express that. Although he didn't look infected, she was concerned infection could set up and we sure don't want any of that anal sac abscess drama. So, he is on clindamycin (by injection) twice a day for five days, with instructions for us to call if liqui poo appears. She also thought he felt bloated and the area of his pancreas felt hard and tender. She did the magic Dr Miller abdominal massage and he felt better when we got home. Plus, he went out into his outdoor sandbox and did a GINORMOUS POO of impressive dimension.

Chief Inspector Crapdash had to go get Detective Poo to come see the evidence with her own eyes. We almost took a picture to put on Z's condo, but then we were afraid Marje would drive up from Tucson to make sure we were not totally losing it here in the high altitude. :shock:
Our vet suspects either his pancreas is a bit inflamed or he is having a IBD flare in addition to the anal gland issues. If his anal glands were too painful, he would have a less than the best poo which backs up his carefully balanced GI system. Since we already use most of the meds for pancreatitis and he is on Budesonide for the IBD, together we decided the tests wouldn't really help all that much. So, we are giving him cerenia for five days, the ABs, his usual ondansetron/cypro (as needed) cocktail with a touch of Bupe for pain as needed. The Bupe we had on hand had expired, so we will pick up a new prescription from our compounding pharmacy tomorrow. We'll check in regulary by email for the next five days, and decide if another follow up visit is needed. Zener has his paws crossed, another visit is not in order.
He is resting comfortably tonight, did extensive yard patrol and had good appy. The night duty bean will test diligently until we see what the night holds. We are expecting to see Mr Liver have his usual issues, so paws crossed there is no wild PJ party tonight. {{{anti-jinx}}}
Our guy takes it all in stride, what a trooper. cat_pet_icon
