Yesterday

Zener is doing ok this morning. His bum is a little more painful than yesterday. No yard patrol yet this morning. Appy is ok, cypro sure helps. Thank you for everyone's visit and encouragement yesterday - it was a crazy day!  Busy day today for me. Anne will be able to get home to check on him and then take him to the vet at about +8.5. I hope we can figure something out to make him more comfortable.

Thinking of ailing kitties and beans and grieving beans too. Paws crossed for OTJ trials for Boots. Happy Tuesday, LL!

Re: 4/8 Zener AMPS 199

Poor Zener. I hope the vet visit goes well today and they figure out why his bottom is sore. Sending lots of feel better vines your way. Have a great day!

Re: 4/8 Zener AMPS 199

Aw, I'm sorry Zener's tushy is still bothering him. Could he use a day or two of pain meds maybe? Sending more healing prayers and good vetty vines his way!

Re: 4/8 Zener AMPS 199;+2 123;+2.4 110

Nice slide for Z! I hope you can get the bum all feeling better soon, poor guy, so I'm sending some feel good, and good vetty vines! I hope that you guys have a less crazy day today;) Have a good one!

Re: 4/8 Zener AMPS 199;+2 123;+2.4 110

Sorry about Z-mans bum, paws crossed the vet can give him some relief.

Re: 4/8 Zener AMPS 199;+2 123;+2.5 110;+4 92

Thanks everyone, we sure appreciate your ideas, suggestions and support. We have given Zener a little bit of Bupe for pain, but we can't give him very much or it slows down his GI motility because of the FD and his IBD. Despite feeling so punk, his BG numbers are looking good. Go figure...

Vetty visit time cannot come soon enough for the beans. :YMSIGH:

Piling on some good vetty vines. I hope it's something simple. Good numbers for Z-man today so far!

Re: 4/8 Zener AMPS 199;+2 123;+2.5 110;+4 92;~6 75

Woot! Look at that cycle!  Too bad vetty visit will probably ruin it. Sending tons of good vetty vines - I hope something simple can help Zener. I've been balancing Neko's bupe with BF squash (which both kitties love) and it does seem to help.

Re: 4/8 Zener AMPS 199;+2 123;+2.5 110;+4 92;~6 75

Hope Zener gets some relief at the vets (after the indignity of the exam~)
Wow on these great numbers  , now just feel better please~

Re: 4/8 Zener AMPS 199;+2 123;+2.5 110;+4 92;~6 75

Nice greens for Zener today. I hope the vetty visit goes well and they can help Zener feel better.

Re: 4/8 Zener AMPS 199;+2 123;+4 92;+8 82;+11.3 43!

Good grief, an all day slide which included a vet visit.   We are feeding now. Will re-test in 30 minutes and see where we are. We are going to reduce from 2.50 to f2.25 (2 drops). Vetty visit went OK. Anne will give the full report since I wasn't able to go.

Sending prayers for Zener to feel better. I have been behind on some condos. Hope the vet had some helpful ideas. Nice numbers despite it.

Re: 4/8 Zener PMPS 83;+1 94 vet news

Thank you all for your kind thoughts, vines and prayers. Zener is feeling better this evening, and gave us some low green drama at the end of his cycle. Where is the vetty stress when you need it? :? We managed pretty well and only stalled for about 20 minutes before up jumped the numbers and shoot we did - "shoot low to stay low" is not always easy to do when appy can vanish in the blink of a cateye.

Zener and I toddled off to see Dr Miller, Captain of Team Zener this afternoon, while he was running a green surf. She re-examined his anal glands, the right one was looking fine and the left one was still producing some liquid and was very tender. So, he got another little squeeze to express that. Although he didn't look infected, she was concerned infection could set up and we sure don't want any of that anal sac abscess drama. So, he is on clindamycin (by injection) twice a day for five days, with instructions for us to call if liqui poo appears. She also thought he felt bloated and the area of his pancreas felt hard and tender. She did the magic Dr Miller abdominal massage and he felt better when we got home. Plus, he went out into his outdoor sandbox and did a GINORMOUS POO of impressive dimension. :o Chief Inspector Crapdash had to go get Detective Poo to come see the evidence with her own eyes. We almost took a picture to put on Z's condo, but then we were afraid Marje would drive up from Tucson to make sure we were not totally losing it here in the high altitude.

Our vet suspects either his pancreas is a bit inflamed or he is having a IBD flare in addition to the anal gland issues. If his anal glands were too painful, he would have a less than the best poo which backs up his carefully balanced GI system. Since we already use most of the meds for pancreatitis and he is on Budesonide for the IBD, together we decided the tests wouldn't really help all that much. So, we are giving him cerenia for five days, the ABs, his usual ondansetron/cypro (as needed) cocktail with a touch of Bupe for pain as needed. The Bupe we had on hand had expired, so we will pick up a new prescription from our compounding pharmacy tomorrow. We'll check in regulary by email for the next five days, and decide if another follow up visit is needed. Zener has his paws crossed, another visit is not in order.

He is resting comfortably tonight, did extensive yard patrol and had good appy. The night duty bean will test diligently until we see what the night holds. We are expecting to see Mr Liver have his usual issues, so paws crossed there is no wild PJ party tonight. {{{anti-jinx}}}

Our guy takes it all in stride, what a trooper. cat_pet_icon

Yo Z Man,
I'm coming over with KTSS for a little spa treatment and some delicious chicken soup. Glad you're feelin' better this evening, pal.

Hi Anne & Liz, We hope that Zener will continue to feel better and better and that the a/bs and the other meds will help him get through this "episode". Have a good evening and an uneventful night with good, safe numbers.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 4/8 Zener PMPS 83;+1 94 vet news

Have you checked out the Feline Constipation web site? It explains a lot about the feline digestive tract and discusses some of the options to prevent problems. Some of them might be useful, even with the IBD, so maybe you could discuss that with the vet.

I'm thinking something to soften or moisten the stool might help with passing feces despite the sore anal glands.

I'm glad Zener is feeling a little bit better tonight. Yard patrol is always a good sign of improvement. Hopefully the cocktail will go ahead and clear things right on up.

Agreed with Julie - the poo description made me chuckle....several times!

Surf safely tonight, Zener!

Yes, do check out the constipation site written by an extremely bright lady. I guarantee you will find everything you ever wanted to know on the subject and much more. Yea for the good numbers and glad the vet visit went well.

I bet that poo made Zener feel better. Sending prayers that the clindamyacin will work nicely for Zener.

Nice BG's with a vet visit.

Adding our prayers for feeling better....

and of course......

you need this.

If you have not used cypro in the past I want to give you a heads up. Vets often tell you to give too much. Max only needs a sliver, maybe 1/8 a 4mg pill to spark his appetite. If given too much it doesn't work as well and makes him a little vocal. It's nothing like what I experienced with Tiffany on mirtazapine but he does better on a smaller dose. I hope he is feeling even better today.
