I got home from an awful morning of medical tests and Eleanor was vomiting, liquid food with a teeny furball. The tiniest bit of fur makes her vomit. Then she had a liguid stool.

I gave her a 1/4 Pepcid. She let me force feed a bit, if she doesn't have food in her tummy she will go into a big painful not eating episode that lasts for several days. Then she played and groomed. I thought she was okay.
When I tried to inject, she would not eat, and was growling, she has to be distracted by food. So it turned into a major thing. I finally got the needle in her, 20 minutes late and she jumped away. I don't know how much insulin went in.

I'm so worried about her and now she got a furshot. I gave her a dose of Bupranorphine since she seems to be in pain and is very agitated.
I know, breathe, shake it off and move on, nothing I can do about it now. But I am still so upset!! I just don't know what is going on with her, and I don't know what to do.

((((Julie))))

It's just one day. Everyone has had furshots - silly kitties move at exactly the wrong time. Shake it off, hit the reset button and tomorrow is a new day. A new day always helps!

You're doing the right things. Let's give this dose a little more time - my fingers and toes are crossed that it moves her a bit!!

Hope you can get a break tonight and I hope her tummy settles down.

:bighug::bighug::bighug:....yes, we've all done the furshot thing. And you never know - maybe more went in that you think!

Do you think she'd benefit from anti-nausea medication like Cerenia? Pepcid can help, but if Eleanor is really nauseated, the cerenia or ondansetron (zofran) might be a better option for her. Does she get bupe because of her spinal injury?

The vet (two different ones actually) felt that she has pancreatitis even though the test for it was negative. When she vomits and meatloaf's, can't eat, and her stomach hurts, fever, we treat "as if" with bupe, subq fluids, cerenia. I always rush her to the vet and he puts her on antibiotics. I don't think the vet is there tomorrow, and she just finished a round of antibiotic, Orbax, I don't want her to have more of that. She is acting sick, but she's not crying when I touch her stomach. Maybe I should give her
Cerenia even though she has not vomited again?

That's how we treat Trix's pancreatitis, too...my vet doesn't do the tests because she feels they are inaccurate, so Trix was diagnosed "clinically" based on her symptoms. Chronic p-titis is fairly common among our FD kitties here.

If it has been more than 24 hours since she last had cerenia, it might not hurt to try it since she is acting sick. Maybe she needs a little more time to recover from taking the Orbax since ABs can upset their tummies???

I'm just worried because of her high numbers and the fact that she is not acting right and not eating on her own and vomited, feels feverish. Then the fur shot, not enough insulin...
I couldn't find any wet on her, so most of the insulin probably went in, although I was still injecting when she took off.
I know, I worry too much

Amy, I think the Orbax triggered this. Her tummy always gets upset the last couple doses.
She has not had cerenia in a few months. I'll go ahead and give it to her, when I can get her out from under the bed, I just force fed her!

If she has a fever, that is a concern. Did they recheck her WBC count after she finished the Orbax? I would wonder if maybe whatever infection she had hasn't fully cleared. I'd consider taking her to see the vetty tomorrow if she's still not feeling well....

No, she hasn't been checked again. It was just a couple days ago that she finished the Orbax. It's hard to know with her, the teeny furball she vomited could be the cause of this.

[Qmy&TrixieCat, post: 1647171, member: 3779"]Poor girl, she sounds so sensitive. Hopefully she just needs a little time to settle from the Orbax and hairball.[/QUOTE]
I hope so, Amy. If her mom ( that would be me) would stop panicking, it might help her too

You can try greek yogurt (no sugar added) and some cats like that. It's full of good bacteria.

People also use people probiotics - i gave punkin 1/4 tablet of Accuflora.

Others have suggested one from Whole Foods - I think it's called ReNew ultimate, maybe? I'll tag @Sienne and Gabby (GA) and @Marje and Gracie because I know they both have mentioned it.

You're worried because you love her and she's precious to you. We all understand. :bighug:

Thank you Julie. I get very emotional about her.

Julie is right...I use the Renew Ultimate And you can use the one that has 15 billion and you can give her one twice a day. Or you can get the Crticical Care and give her 1/3 twice a day.

I would also ask about ondansetron. You would need a prescription but you can give 1 mg twice a day. You can also give the cerenia once a day as they work from different modalities but it's always best to discuss with the vet.

Sending many prayers she will feel better.

Thank you for the information and prayers, Marje.
I asked about Ondansetron before, but Dr T doesn't use it and isn't really familiar with it. I take it myself....
I will ask him again.

Ask him to look it up in Plumbs. That is what my vet did.

Since he knows me, tell him I've used it extensively for my kitties with my vet prescribing it ...haha...doubt that will work but it's worth a mention. It is also called zofran.

Give him this refernence (I'm putting the whole link so you can copy and paste it in an email to him. Note it recommends ondansetron for pancreatitis and states it is good to control nausea: http://southeasternwiscdvm.org/files/fall_seminar_november_2015/vomiting_milwaukee_vma.pdf

If he approves it, I have some I can send you because it is expensive. It can get to PHX in a day. You could have him write you a script for just a couple...they are about $1.00/pill. If you can't pill her, let me know before you talk to him. The pills are small...I could cut them into the right dose for her. But he has to prescribe it so I would recommend you discuss it with him.

Thank you, I will do all of this!!
I take Ondansetron myself so I have some, I just don't like given meds unless the vet knows about it.
