Happy Hump Day!

We're on the downhill slide after today, folks... Healing vines to all.

yesterday

ETA: +4:45 (96) ... wasn't expecting that. she wouldn't stop going on about food though so I thought I should probably test her. (smh) fed her a tad (.2 ounces) and will stick to her normal feed at +6 (less the .2 early feed). Will retest then.

Zoey sure like dramatic drops! Easy does it girl. :D

Did she get any meals between breakfast and+4.45? Feeding some small meals early in the cycle around +2 +3 might help slow down the dive - which may cause another bounce.

@Wendy&Neko -- I've been trying to get her on a 4 x a day feed to help with an upcoming getaway we're hoping to take. She has started to get used to not constantly wanting food available to her and she's been letting us sleep for multiple hours without trolling for food on the hour (like she had grown accustomed to doing) but today she just wouldn't stop whining so I knew something was up. I reviewed her spreadsheet after the black BG this a.m., and even had the thought that I might need to feed her prior to +6 and said to myself that I'd only encourage her to beg for more before it was time (she's been pretty good with her numbers so I've gotten kind of spoiled, I guess.) I should've stuck with that thought and split it up since she was so high at amps. We do have the feeder to help while we're away, but the concern is we're going to take her camping with us (camper) and her trolling for food or kicking that feeder around, trying to break into it, will make sleeping kind of difficult. I'm definitely feeding her this last half of her a.m. portion of food in intervals and try and bring her back up slowly (and keep her in lower numbers longer). I'm afraid if I feed her all at once she'll boomerang right back to high again. Guess I'll give up on the thought of trying to retrain her to an every-six-hour schedule and go with my gut when I see those higher numbers and feed the curve/bounce better. As far as camping, we might just be carrying her on hikes with us in our backpacks. Lord knows we can't put her on a leash .. she immediately falls right over on her side and will only let you drag her around; she looks like a furry mop. LOL

Fed her +6 .5 ounces of food // 99 bg. will check her again in 2 hours.

Hey Zoey, green is good we know, but that dive has to be one of the biggest I've seen! :D You can go just a little slower you know!

That made me laugh! :joyful: I can just imagine her doing that - I'm sure they only do it to make us look like bad cat parents!! Though if you put her in your backpack to go hiking, we will need pics! ;)

Hi, April! yeah, she's a funny girl, for sure! DH told me if she goes with us in a backpack that I'm going to have to tote her around. He fully expects her to claw her way out and climb up the back of our neck and rest on top of our heads, nails fully implanted for grip/stability. I'm telling you ... she's a strong-willed cat. When we brought her home from the SPCA, she was just eight weeks old and they put her in a cardboard crate for transport. It was only about 25 feet from the front door to our car and by the time we got to the car, unlocked the door and got in, she had made a large enough hole in the crate to jump out of. You would have thought the tasmanian devil was loose in our car.

How's Rosa doing? Getting more comfortable with the idea of her being OTJ or do you still wake up and test with trepidation?

Ouch! I don't doubt she would try to get out of a backpack exactly the way you describe if she thinks she's going on an enforced hike!! I am familiar with the tasmanian devil behavior from when my 2 first came home with me as feral kittens - it was funny some of the time but terrifying more often than not - they seemed to have no sense of fear unless it involved one of the "evil" humans actually trying to touch them!

Rosa seems to be doing really well thank you for asking! :D I'm down to testing once a week now which feels really strange - I have to keep stopping myself from getting "just one" extra test in during the week. But I don't think I'll ever stop having a panicky moment while waiting for the meter to give me a number! Though she's been funny since we got back from our weekend away - she's been trying to convince me that no-one fed her or cuddled her and she's been starved for weeks and weeks (unfortunately, the half full food bowls in the kitchen when we got home ruined that one for her - well, that and the fact that we were away for a little less than 48 hours!). ;) Although she wasn't always a fan of the diabetes routine, she does seem to be more attached to me now and definitely missed me while we were gone where it always used to be Regan who had the worse reaction to me being away overnight.

@manxcat419 that's awesome that you sheltered two feral cats. I have a special fondness for them. My Gracie is a feral cat and she had two litters of kittens which we were able to capture, vaccinate and find homes for. I finally cornered Gracie one day and she bit the stew out of me but we took her and cleaned her up (surgically removed 19 BBs from her) and fixed her and now she is my shadow; and when the house is super quiet, she will find me and curl up next to me and sleep so hard she snores. To gain a feral cat's love is extra special; isn't it? We have two more (all black, also) and one of them rides all over the property on the golf cart with my husband. She can hear his truck pull into the drive and will come running from the back 40 to greet him. You just gotta love cats; they're great! And your sweet Rosa, I'm sure you are pretty special to her now; she probably considers you her personal human. LOL. She's had your devotion for quite a while and I'm sure she knows you saved her life. We're so happy for her full recovery!

(sigh) Zoe was naturally high. Wouldn't have expected anything less ... although wouldn't have been surprised if she was low either. Since feeding her half of her portion all at once up front was not enough to keep her from going too low this morning, this evening I only fed her a portion and plan to check her in an hour to see which direction she's going. Cannot assume it will be up OR down. If it's up, I'll not feed her until I see it is coming down. If it's down and dropping fast, I will feed her a commensurate amount of the allotment .. of course, that will be a guess, too. o_O Hopefully I'll be able to keep her from dropping too low, too fast and will be able to flatten out these numbers some. Paws crossed, anyway.

If we get into trouble, we'll holler and shout. I won't dare say that I expect it to be a quiet night from us. ;)

Good night and sweet dreams! And if you're having a PJ party, stay safe and enjoy the lagoon.

I love all cats - I really do, but these 2 are that bit extra special because they were so wild to begin with. I can't believe, looking at them now, that I was advised not to take them on - they've turned into the most loving, cuddly lap cats I've ever had! I really do have a soft spot for ferals now and would most definitely choose more feral kittens if I was thinking about getting any more cats (at the moment, I'm told that's out of the question with 6 in the house, but we'll see - we took on the 6th last summer after deciding "no more" too ;) ) It's almost as if, with ferals, once you do gain their trust you become their property and the bond they create with you is a very special and loving one...Regan was already a bit over attached to me because she had pneumonia at 4 months old and almost died - I took time off work and carried her around everywhere to keep her warm and get her better. And now it seems Rosa has gone the same way with all the shots and tests I've had to do for her. While I can tell she's happy not to have the shots any more, I do think she knows I was helping her to feel better and she's been more affectionate than ever before in the last few weeks! :) While we are of course delighted that she's off insulin now, we know we could cope if she comes out of remission some time in the future, though of course we hope she'll continue to do well with just the low carb diet. :) Gracie's story starts out so sad with having to catch her for treatment, but what a wonderful ending to it. I love it when a cat is so relaxed with you that they can sleep so hard. :) And it's so sweet when they want to follow you everywhere and be involved in everything you do, from greeting you when you get home to helping with chores in their own special way!! ;)

Zoey does seem to like her dive and bounce routine at the moment doesn't she? It will settle down I'm sure - it just takes a while for them to remember that the lower numbers are good. :) And please do shout if you need help or reassurance later on (or any other time of course) - I think we've all had days where what looks like it should be a quiet night turns out to be a roller coaster ride!! Our kitties do love to keep us guessing! ;)

Awww Thank you! :) But really I do what makes me happy - I love cats, I love looking after cats (and yes, especially the ones that need extra care) and I love talking to and helping all the wonderful people here! :)

Lord knows we can't put her on a leash .. she immediately falls right over on her side and will only let you drag her around; she looks like a furry mop. LOL
That is hilarious!! My GA Puddin would fall over when I put a harness on her to take her for a walkie. And to think I could have dusted the floors, multi-use kitty harness. (Mama`s just kidding, angel-Puddin).
