Thank you all, yesterday, for the kind thoughts and comments about Moses' trip today to the vet. I haven't been yet, I'm just about to give him a call. But it definitely needs to get done.

Just to let you know, my vet already "tested" the lump and found that it was just a cosmetic issue and that was when I was introduced to his possible diabetic diagnosis (which we know was correct  ). So the lump has been overshadowed, ew, and it's current golf-ball size leads me to make it a priority again. Although this vet has recommended no further treatment b/c having surgery would be risky to his heart.

I'm meeting a new vet today, that can either confirm or disagree on the surgery option. Honestly, I really really want him to be able to do the surgery, whether it's cancer or not. This lump will eventually impair my cat's quality of life. So I really want to be able to take it off. But, it's truly not worth it if Moses' heart could fail on the surgery table.

Ugh.

This is my verbal processing I guess. :? Now you can see more of my thoughts  I'll call the vet.

Erica:

Once you have the info from the new vet, I'd suggest sending a PM to Jess/Earl. Jess is a vet tech who specializes in cardiology. Hopefully, she can help you sort through the issues, help to frame more questions to ask if need be, and maybe help you to weigh the options.

Catching up on condos, good luck w/ the new vet. I hope the lump will turn out to be truly benign and surgery possible if necessary.

Re: 4/28 Moses PMPS 75

Hi Erica

I hope you don't mind a public answering of a PM. I always prefer to 'speak' in public rather than by PM.

You asked about your kitty and the surgery. My initial questions-- what arrhythmia? Was it more specifically diagnosed? By whom? When? Is it still ongoing?

Re: 4/28 Moses PMPS 75

Hi Jess & Earl

The heart arrhythmia was diagnosed by my vet early last year, January 2009. I can't remember the specifics, I'll go check out the chart real quick. She wanted to perform all kinds of tests, but I didn't have the financial ability to pursue.

She thought that it was a heart beat he was born with. I assume it's still ongoing since last December.

I'll get the details, brb

Re: 4/28 Moses PMPS 97 +2~75

Hi Erica
Did your vet hear it again or was that the last time you were at the vet? You need to have an EKG done right away; they can do that tomorrow when you go see the new vet. Arrhythmias can be no big deal, or--speaking bluntly--they can be fatal. Get a copy of the EKG and you can share it with us here.

An arrhythmia is different than a gallop. A gallop is an extra noise you can hear when you listen to the heart, it's not an actual beat. (Instead of the ba-bump, ba-bump heart noise, you hear ba-da-bump, ba-da-bump, like a horse running.) If there is a gallop tomorrow, ask the vet to do chest x-rays. You really can't go anywhere without doing more diagnostics. As for surgery, I would absolutely avoid elective surgery until this is sorted out. Start with having the vet give a good listen tomorrow.

Re: 4/28 Moses PMPS 97 +2~75 +3~52

Okay, Jess & Earl, I'll do that. My vet acted very confused by his heart rhythm, stating that it was like a gallop. I'll ask tomorrow though, thank you for you help

I'll stay up for a +5 since Moses is in the 50s. We'll see what happens, he's playful now!

Ya. He's like "See, I'm good, I don't need to go to the vet tomorrow!"

We're still going though, big guy

Hmmm is 57 a nice enough number to go to bed by? Soooo tired.... I'm debating.....

Good luck at the vet's tomorrow. I hope the heart doesn't stop Moses from having surgery if he needs it.

Very nice numbers tonight - I haven't looked at Moses SS - but ya might want at least a 5.5 to make sure you got 2 numbers going up. (but then again if he is past his nadir and usually down in the 50's.....)
