Hi everyone. My vet recommended a cleaning for Lovey. She never got her teeth cleaned before. ALl bloodwork looks good. Here heart sounds good. Lungs sound clear, but the vet noticed heavy breathing sounds or something. She said that it could be just Lovey's anatomy, the way she was born. She also said that her gaining of 10 ounces could have made the sound get louder. She asked me if she always sounded that way. I don't know. She was always noisy at night when she was sleeping. I don't know if her breathing was a little loud? The vet said that if it was something new it could be a problematic?

I am a little concerned now about doing the dental with those sounds. I got a referral to a dental specialist and mentioned this to him. About 1o months ago, Lovey got an ultrasound to rule out cancer or other things when she was first diagnosed.

You could ask the dental specialist or your vet about a chest x-ray. The other thing to maybe ask about is whether there is a veterinary anesthesiologist who would be present at the procedure.

Thanks Sienne, I was thinking about that. I think there is an veterinary anesthesiologist since this is a specialist but I will double check. A chest x-ray is probably a simple procedure. I am not sure if Lovey had one before. Sienne, are you in the medical field?

Mariko/Lucy just had a dental a week ago and had a board certified veterinary anesthesiologist present with the dental specialist. She also had a chest X-ray before hand. Neko went to the same dental specialist last year, but I just went with the regular technician monitoring the anesthesia and heart/blood pressure. In our city, the veterinary anesthesiologist is a traveling vet and not part of the normal dental vet practice unless you ask for it.

Neko had an echocardiogram done previously which was sent to the dental specialist before her dental. Actually, one of the reasons I went to a dental specialist was because of Neko's heart murmur, and knowing they would monitor her more than my vet would. I agree with Sienne that it's worth asking your vet or the dental specialist if they think Lovey should have an X-ray first.

Hi Catherine

I'm sorry Lovey needs a dental but Siennes suggestions are good. I've used a veterinary anesthesiologist before and it's well worth the extra money. I don't know what the breathing might be unless she's developing a bit of asthma but an X-ray will identify that so I'd ask the vet.
