Yesterday's Stress-Filled Condo

First, thanks to Chris, Ruth, Elise and Ann for visiting last night's condo this morning.

Looks like we were part of a large crowd that did dosecreases this morning. It appears that Chris and Elise had more success with China and Max than we did with Cinco. It's early yet. He often takes a while to settle into a new dose. Otherwise, all is well with Cinco (anti-jinx, anti-jinx, anti-jinx).

Minka did finally eat a little Hill's a/d (I found a can in the cabinet and remembered she had eaten it before). Not a lot, but enough to help us feel a little better about things. I didn't want to break out the syringe again, since she was so opposed to it earlier.

When I got up this morning, I found little spots of liquid poo in various places on the carpet. DH told me he had cleaned up a bigger spot in the bathroom when he got up. Upon investigation, I found that Minka's tail feathers were dirty again. :( What's left of them, that is, after Mark's very amateurish clipping job. I checked the blanket on the bed where she sleeps, and found that she must have thrown up a little, several times during the night! There was also poo on the comforter. :(:( She got her usual Ondansetron/Pepcid gelcap, but didn't want any food all morning. @tiffmaxee, she gets 2 mg of Ondansetron every morning, but the Oncologist said I could go up to 4 mg if needed, so I went ahead and gave her the other half of the pill, along with some Cerenia. She still did not want anything to do with food. Any food. She clearly did not feel well. I did her fluids, hoping that would help, but no change.

Meanwhile, I went into the bedroom to get the comforter for washing, and found Sasha, who had eaten her breakfast with only a little prompting, had thrown up her food and meds all over the sheets and my pillow!

. I had to strip the bed all the way down to the mattress (luckily I use two pads, and the mattress was unscathed). The washing machine has been doing yoeman's duty all day. I am torn about the cause of her tummy upset. It's either the MaxCal that she ate last night or the new flavor/brand of food this morning - Nutro Freestyle Chicken & Herring. I tried Nutro once before and she had diarrhea, so maybe it doesn't agree with her. Harvey and Cinco ate it and seem fine. Minka, of course, didn't touch it. Minka also had the MaxCal, and I was wondering if it might be a little too rich for them, being unaccustomed to it.

Our regular vet called this afternoon to ask how Sasha's asthma was doing. When I told her she seems much better since restarting the Pred, she was not surprised. We discussed extending the length of time she's on it, then seeing how she does when she comes off. She wants me to keep her on the AB because her immune system is already compromised from the radiation and chemo, and Pred can also affect that. Since we are not having any luck with the inhaler, she discussed starting her on a bronchodilator. She said if we go that route, she'll need to come off the AB. We decided to wait to see how she does when this Pred trial ends, but she's got a script ready for me to pick up any time. I took the opportunity to discuss the tummy issues with her. She said the MaxCal and/or a/b could have caused Minka's diarrhea, and it's possible that's what caused them both to throw up, but she couldn't say for sure. I asked for her advice on what to do to help Minka, and we found that I was already doing everything she would have recommended!! Bottom line is, if she's not eating tomorrow, the vet wants to see her. So far this afternoon I've managed to get about a tablespoon of baby food into her, in several different sessions.

I'm going to have a nervous breakdown, as soon as I can find the time.

@Chris & China, the paraffin does help some, but it only seems to last a few hours. I think it would give the greatest benefit if used in the morning to alleviate stiffness. The unit came with some plastic bags to put over your hand to hold in the warmth. When I run out of those I will remember the oven mitt hint.

@Ann & Tess, the problem with SEB (other than that Minka doesn't like it) is that you can't give it within two hours of medication, as it inhibits absorption. Seems like I'm popping pills down her throat all day and it would be hard to keep that straight, even with my checklist system. I really hate to add one more thing to shove down her throat, too.

Sorry to write yet another novel, largely non-FD related. I just appreciate the support and advice I get from everyone for all my kitties and I don't think I could survive this without you. It's been a very stressful few days.

I hope you are all having a wonderful Friday.

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans. :bighug: Special prayers for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF, DH and DGD, Marje's DM, Chris' DM and Elise's DM.

Good luck on the dosecrease..maybe he just needs a bit more time. Vines for Minka and Sasha and hugs for you for all your going through with your babies..:bighug::bighug:

I hope you've got room in your house for a tonne of vines because they're on the way :bighug::bighug::bighug: eat up Minka the vet threat is on the table.

Purrdy will be joining the dosecrease club tonight

Good luck with the dosecrease. I hope you have better luck than I did with Neko's last night.

No advice on the civies, just hugs and tons of healing and appy vines. :bighug::bighug:

Hugs and vines. The vet on the lymphoma list also says you can give 4mg of ondansetron twice a day in addition to cerenia. I "think" but don't quote me on it but Max Calorie might be high fat. More hugs.

OK Cinco...China and Max made it down to the lagoon so it's your turn now!! Get with the program!!

Hope he responds as well as they have...and soon too!! The 2 Mousecateers just doesn't have the same ring to it as the 3 Mousecateers does!

Sure hope Sasha can avoid another vet visit and will eat good for you tonight (and keep it down too...that's an important part of it!)

As for the nervous breakdown, there's 90 minutes free a week from next Tuesday if you'd like to schedule it now......LOL

I really don't know how you keep it together Tricia...you really do qualify as a Superbean!!

The LagoonMeister did not make it to the lagoon yet on his dosecrease. Maybe he'll be on duty later. Come on, Cinco! Work that juice.
Sorry to hear about your stressful, messy day, Tricia. Sending vines for all aiments and issues!

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Thanks for visiting us, Laura, Serryn, Amy, Wendy, Elise, Carla, Chris and Ella.

I'm liking that PMPS. First blue PS in a week. :) Paws crossed he's planning to join his pals at the lagoon. C'mon, Neko and Rusty! There's room for everyone there!

Minka ate almost half of her dinner tonight. Tears (I've been crying easily lately - must be stress). Late this afternoon she worked her way slowly through about 1/3 jar of baby food. I'm trying not to get ahead of myself here. Baby steps, as Amy says. Sasha ate almost the other 2/3 of the jar of baby food, and she ate half of her dinner, too. :woot:

I forgot to mention during this afternoon's meltdown that I wrote to the Nulo people to ask for the Phosphorus content, and I got a very nice response, but I'm not 100% sure it answers all my questions. I'll try to attach it to my SS and see what y'all think.

((((((Tricia))))))) Tons and tons of vines for your girls and you---well, for Cinco and Harvey too!! You have so much to deal with at once, I truly don't know how you hold it together, so if you need to cry, do it! We;re here for you too! glad to see Minka ate tonight too, hopefully no after effects tonight. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

(((Tricia)))

I'm so sorry I haven't been around to give you some emotional support. I read back through several of Cinco's condos and I just have to say that you are amazing. You are entitled to feel stressed, exhausted, weepy....anything you want bcause you take such amazing care of your four babies. Your strength is phenomenal....and you do it all with the pain in your hands. Yesterday would have sent me over the edge but you still were going strong by the end of the day....helps that adult beverages are in the picture.;)

I'm so glad Minka ate today. I hope she and Sasha's tummies are both better now. Also glad to see Cinco doing better with his dose increase.

Tons of hugs. And thank you for remembering my mom...She's actually doing superb!

:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: Hugs, prayers, and anti-stress vines to you, Tricia. I know you must feel like :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:. Throwing some eat your fuds in and healing vines for the fur kids too. I'm sorry I haven't been around to post, but I'm thinking of you and your babies much. I wish I could help you out with some of all this, if only we had a Star Trek Transporter!:p

Work that dosecrease, Cinco!

Thank you, Ruth, Marje, Rachel, Linda and Chris. I've said it a million times - I could not get through this without all of you. The support I get from the wonderful people on the Board is phenomenal.

Cinco continues to be my shining light - we have green! :D He's not happy right now because his daddybean just trimmed his nails. He'll get over it, though. He got lots of scritches and a back rub afterwards.

Minka still looks like she doesn't feel good, but she's nibbling on the second half of her dinner. I'm hoping that she'll feel better after her evening squids. Sasha is still not 100% I promised her some baby food if she ate a little more of her dinner. I have to go up and see if she's fulfilled her half of the bargain yet.

@Tiger and Ruth, I miss hearing about Tiger's progress and am always happy when you drop by. Thanks for your compassion. Minka is holding her own so far (anti-jinx).

@Marje and Gracie, I know you're knee-deep (or more) in work right now, and you with half a thumb! It's sweet of you to be thinking of us. I'm so glad to hear your DM is doing well. She remains in my prayers. Just reading your Friday condos gives me so much comic relief! I miss the daily updates on Gracie and Tobey and look forward to the day you can come back to the Board more often.

@Rachel & Chyna (GA), gosh I miss chatting with you regularly. I hope your two girls are doing well and all is going smoothly at tbp. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts. You are always in ours. :bighug: When you find that transporter, let me know!!

@Linda and Scooter & Jack, so sweet of you to take time to check on us. I'm glad you have a life outside FD - I know how much you've been putting into it recently with Jack, and with Scooter's crossing. You are in my thoughts, too. I know the pain is still fresh. :bighug:

@Chris & China - Yes!!!! Cinco is wading into the lagoon, but he can't seem to find China or Max! Where the heck are they????

And for the record, I'm on my second glass of wine.

You are very sweet to us and we appreciate it! Believe me, Gracie's daily antics could easily fill her condos and keep you smiling.

Glad you are enjoying some wine! Wish I could join you!!!

What a Day! You are Wonder Woman! At least the dosecrease seems to be working for Cinco. Enjoy the wine! I'm sorry if the Max Cal was the culpret. Anything higher in calories is probably higher in fat, so that could be it.

Hi Tricia,
I don't think I have visited your condo before. I have just been reading back through the last few days.
You poor thing! I would be stressed and teary also with kitties who were unwell and not eating. It is such a worry when that happens. I wish I could help or give suggestions but I think I can only give support:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Just a thought.........Have you ever tried chicken broth? On its own or mixed with other food to make it more appetising? I always have it frozen in the frig for extra fluids or to add to food. I boil a dozen or so chicken leg bones in water, nothing else, for about 8 hours. If you have no worries with phosphorus, you can add a bit of chicken meat. When cooked I strain it, then I leave it in the frig over night then scoop the solidified fat off the top. It should be the consistency of jelly otherwise it isn't strong enough. Any left over I freeze. Sheba loves it and I use that as her treat. It doesn't have many calories but might make other food tastier. I always serve it warm.

I do hope things improve for you tomorrow. :bighug:
Bron

Hi @Bron and Sheba. Thanks for stopping by. Actually, I do give Minka chicken broth - sometimes it is the only thing she will eat/drink. A lot of times she ignores the pieces of chicken I leave in it and just drinks the broth. She prefers it room temperature. I have some frozen in ice cube trays now. I haven't offered them this time around. Thanks for reminding me to try it! She did eat the remainder of her dinner just now, so tonight seems to be a little better (anti-jinx).

Meanwhile, Cinco is surfing green. Soooooo nice!
