WCR: demanded attention last night by crying repeatedly until we got up and put her on the bed ourselves. Now she is eating breakfast with twix. She is really fighting us at test time these days. Her ears must be extremely sore. At this point I don't feel like doing many spot checks through the day. She isn't going anywhere and I hate hearing her cry out. When she cries out at test time, it's so different then when she is crying for attention. It really really sounds like she is in pain and it breaks my heart to hear it.

Re: 4/22 mocha amps 302

This is the start of the 3rd cycle with the increase, right? I was kinda surprised to see the low pink after that string of yellow for AMPS. I am wondering if this cycle will be the one when the dose takes effect. We are on our 3rd cycle too with an increase and so far there has been no action.
I feel bad for you since she is balking at the testing. Do you use both ears? It's difficult for me to check Shadow's right one so I favor the left ear. I assume you have put neopsorin or something on it, right? Good luck with healing it up...

Re: 4/22 mocha amps 302

Poor Mocha, it's heartbreaking to hear them cry. Logan gets lots of treats at test time - he gets a few pieces of freeze dried salmon or chicken before the test and then a few more after the test. We have to wait for him to lick the paper towel clean before we can poke. It is very hard to get spot checks when they don't seem to budge with their numbers. We've cut back to just doing one spot check during the day cycle. We should probably do more, but the numbers don't seem to change a whole lot! Hope she gets better with the testing and you see some action with the new dose.

Re: 4/22 mocha amps 302

Just stopping in to say Hi and hope your numbers get better soon I can understand you being upset if she is really crying out, I am lucky now that Do Lou is so good at test time with his feet and he gets a treat afterwards of freeze dried salmon it has really helped me to make test time a little better for him cat_pet_icon

Re: 4/22 mocha amps 302 +4 246

thanks for the replies. We don't have treats in the house for either girls, but maybe it would not be a bad idea. She used to be so good about getting tested, I could do it while she was sleeping. Now sometimes it takes both me and peter to test her! How very, very frustrating. Some days I just want to give up.

She has been running around the house crying like a lunatic since I got home an hour ago so I fed her. Wasn't going to test her because I knew she was not low. Anyways she kept crying even after I fed her, and she tried going after twix's bowl, so I grabbed her up and tested her which didn't go over so well. All I got after the battle was that dang yellow again. :YMSIGH: I cannot imagine doing this for years.

Re: 4/22 mocha amps 302 +4 246

:YMHUG: Cheer up, you'll find the right dose and start going the other way soon. I know the frustration of no progress and envisioning a never ending abyss stretching out ahead. Tess has been at the same .1u since mid March. Then her numbers jumped on Tuesday and I am now really happy just to be where we are! Be careful when you ask for change!

Mocha will get there. Remember the mantra: Patience.....Patience.....Patience.....Patience...............

Re: 4/22 mocha amps 302 +4 246

I'm sorry about Mocha's sore ears. It seems like a lot of kitties don't want to be tested lately -- Kitty too. Maybe you can pick up some of that halo soothing salve. I'm going to use it today -- I'll report back.

You have your vet checkup Saturday, yes?

Re: 4/22 mocha amps 302 +4 246

:YMHUG: Hi, Devon & Mocha too :YMHUG:
Ms. Mocha's ears sore, aww -- bless her heart! Hmmm... wishing I had some suggestions.. but Baby's ears (that I am aware of) are not bothered. How do you test them? Do you test both? Do you alternate spots on the ear? Is your prick quick? I free hand & prick super fast & BAM blood! Then I hold the little spot with a washcloth for about 5-10 seconds so there is no bruising. I hate to suggest less testing while she is running high, but that is what I did. If Baby did not have a dramatic drop by +4, then I kind of let her chillax until next shot time. Anyway.. sending hundreds of hugs to you all... I know it's tough.. but your tougher & she is too. Mocha can do this.. Mocha WILL do this

Re: 4/22 mocha amps 302 +4 246

thanks everyone. yes, we do try to alternate ears although she has always disliked us testing on her left ear. Not real sure why, but she paws at it when we try to test, that's why we have been favoring her right ear. Now both ears drive her crazy. She tries to bite us now which is new. I wear a band aid on my left hand and poke her ear. Most of the time it's a quick poke and theres the blood. It used to be much easier when we could gently rub her ear for a few seconds before the poke and the blood would flow like Niagara falls. Now she hisses when we rub them so sometimes it takes more then one poke to get the blood. We have a folded up piece of TP and fold that over her ear and try to hold it with some light pressure for a few seconds after the poke, but she tries to wriggle her way out of our grasp. We do use neosporin on her ears. We put it on both ears each night before bed, that way they have a full night of healing before we do any more pokes on them. I don't really know if it is helping her though. We will try to find that herbal salve this weekend, we have to go out of town to find that pet store that carries it. Our krogers does not.

We do have a dental check up on saturday. I'm not looking forward to it. It's a 2 hour car ride each way and mocha HATES being in the car. I have a dreaded feeling something didn't heal right in her mouth and that is probably the cause of the higher numbers. I don't know what to do if that is the case. If that did happen, I would hate to think of what they would charge us to go back in and fix whatever is wrong. Money is tight anymore and the vet is charging us just for a simple recheck of her mouth. :YMSIGH:

Well I guess I'll get off my pity box now! Thanks again for understanding.

Re: 4/22 mocha amps 302 +4 246

Devon, I am certainly not someone to give advice, but have you ever shot Mocha at +11, experts say this can backfire if done too many cycles in a row, just curious & thinking of some new things to try. Do you feed mini meals?

Re: 4/22 mocha amps 302 +4 246

Hi so sorry to hear about Mocha's ears!!! Scrabble's ears get irritated too! I feel terrible also, I use neosporin all the time and it seems to help! I can basically only use his right ear because he doesn't like his left being touched and it is hard to bleed. It helps when you get blood on the first prick because then the ears don't seem to get too bothered! So sorry you feel so frustrated! We all do for sure! Sending hugs and healing vines for Mocha's ears! Have a good night!!! Do you use a rice sock to warm up ears? It helps with getting the blood quick!

Re: 4/22 mocha amps 302 +4 246

Wow you test Mocha without giving treats? Mocha is very nice to let you keep living in her house.. I'd be out on the curb in SECONDS.

Re: 4/22 mocha pmps 116

well what am I supposed to say to this? I guess that is what I get for thinking she isn't going to do anything. She just loves to prove me wrong.

Re: 4/22 mocha pmps 116

FWIW, here's my spin...

Mocha was doing well when her dose was in the 2.5 - 2.75u range. Despite the vet's advice to drop the dose, it doesn't look like it was a good idea. Her shed got emptied and you've been dealing with bringing her dose up over the past few weeks. You're now back in the range where she had good numbers. Her PMPS tonight could be a result of Mocha's she being re-filled. Fingers crossed that this trend continues.

Re: 4/22 mocha pmps 116

Yay! Soooo happy for Mocha, you & Peter too!! See.. patience pays off momma! Maybe to save her lil ears get a +4, so any food spike will have worn off?
For what it is worth.. I don't give treats to Baby either!

Re: 4/22 mocha pmps 116

Nice pmps (finally) Mocha! Devon, don't give up hope but I would try some enticement for Mocha. Have you ever gotten the Halo liv a little chicken?? My cats love it. I probably could do almost anything to Tuscany if/when I have those treats. You can order on line often cheaper than I've found locally. I also do wild side freeze dried salmon treats which they love.

See you around later tonight. BTW - I like Sienne's theory.

Re: 4/22 mocha pmps 116

thank you all for the kind words. Yes, patience is a key .. I wish I was born with some! I hope that mochas shed is now refilled, we dropped the dose a few weeks back, not per the vets advice, but due to her dental. The night before the dental she was in the 50's so we didn't shoot, and we didn't shoot the morning of the dental, because she had no food and wasn't allowed food all day.

We did used to give mocha treats, not at test time because she has always been so good about it, but at shot time. She soon learned what those treats meant and refused to eat treats after that. But maybe when we are out looking for the herbal salve for her ears, we can find the Halo liv a little chicken and see how she does with those. Are they easy to chew, with her missing teeth?

Re: 4/22 mocha pmps 116

The Liv a Littles are freeze dried. They are firm but not as firm as dry kibble - you could also break them up into smaller pieces. Mocha still has some teeth, right?

Re: 4/22 mocha pmps 116

Gizmo turned a year old in February. He's a Norwegian Forest Cat. (In other words, he'll be a bit smaller than a Maine Coon and won't reach full maturity until he's about 5 years old. He presently weighs 12 lbs -- he's as big as Gabby.)

yes, mocha still has some teeth left. She had 8 extracted, and had already lost one that we didn't know about. We will look for those treats.

Sienne, gizmo sounds adorable! Our boy cheddar was main coon and at 1 year old he was bigger then both our girls. I love big boy cats!

I think mocha is going to hit green tonight, so I expect a bounce in the morning, but it gives me hope once again that we are doing something right. Thank you all (again) for the support today. It sure is hard getting through these darn high numbers isn't it??
