Hello all,

Sorry for not posting yesterday, it has been a lot. Indy continues to have little appetite though he is slowly eating a bit more, maybe? Picked up mirataz from the vet today. Going to give that a try. He takes a few bites when it is first put down but he eats maybe a third or half of what he usually does. He was begging for treats this morning. And just begged for some deli turkey after I got home. I want to get calories in him, but I want them to be the right calories. Feel stuck. I keep looking at his behavior to try and figure out if I should give him up. With the exception of the appetite, he is acting pretty normal. Drinking plenty of water, using the litter box, hanging out in his favorite spots, greeting me when I walk up to his bed. Hope the mirataz will help.

Struggling with anticipatory grief, given his age. This is not helping my anxiety.

Hope everyone has had safe surfs today.

Try the Mirataz and see how he does.
He sounds like he’s acting pretty normally. That’s really good.
Try to keep the faith. Despite his appetite it sounds like he’s feeling pretty normal and has a very good quality of life.
I know it’s stressful. And you’re doing such a good job with your sweet old man 🥰😻❤️‍🩹🙏

Well, he hit 54 today on .5u. though with his lack of appetite lately we have been skipping a lot. He showed some more perkiness today and was more interested in food. Had 1 more quarter of a cerenia left so gave it to him. Holding off on the mirataz for now, since he showed more interest in food today. Debating whether to continue the cerenia or see what he does without it.

Can you get more Cerenia so you have it at home?
I keep a supply here so I’m not in a bind if I need it.

You never know when one of your kitties will need it (and Ondansetron too).

Glad Indy is eating better ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

We have another whole tablet.

He didn't want his dinner food again but was begging for snacks this morning. I read that cerenia doesn't last the whole 24 hours and it seems his appetite perks up about 12 hours after dosing.

Or he is being really picky. It is one of those times I wish he could communicate with me about how he feels.

I keep a cerenia stash here as well like Staci does. I usually err on the side of giving it. I had a chat with my vet about giving it long-term (my lymphoma/hyperthyroid/hypertensive girl Luna took it daily for a long time since the lymphoma and her thyroid meds both made her nauseated) and she said better safe than sorry and just give it to her. The benefit outweighs any negatives (other than how freaking expensive it is. 😜) It definitely compounds all the other stresses when they won't eat!🩷

Yeah, I think it suppresses his appetite. Which is why I hesitate. It being expensive does suck, but if it helps him have good quality of life then I am all for it. Did you have to give Luna mirataz daily too?

Yes, Luna got liquid compounded mirtazipine. We started with pills but they made her vomit really badly, so we switched to transdermal, then the liquid. The liquid in tandem with the cerenia worked really well for her. I don't think it suppressed her appetite, although she was on prednisolone for her lymphoma, so that could have counteracted any appetite issues from the other meds.
