Good morning, Lantus Land!!! Exciting time here for us, Baby on .1 dropped to 41 last night, I fed & fell asleep on accident! Soooo... we could have maybe started on OTJ Trial!! But, I think there are too many variables here (fighting an infection, on ab, challenging appetite, etc) sooooooo, I am not comfortable removing insulin yet. If she drops again, I am giving a fat zero - I want her pancreas to heal as long as possible!
I am not concerned with her going hypo on this small of dose, but am here to monitor today & Thurs - Sun. I do work Wednesday.

WCR Baby has had her breakfast (Wellness Chicken), all 5 Ps are in place ;-) and Baby has played outside this morning & eaten some grass. 4th day on Baytril & Baby is beginning to get back to herself, acting more like Baby!! She has always enjoyed Whole Life Chicken Treats, but last night I bought another flavor they make Whole Life Turkey Treats & Baby LOVES them!! I feel really Blessed with Baby right now, she seems to be doing great in the middle of this abscess mess.

Guess thing are looking much better for Baby...so happy to hear that! Nice numbers too!

I'm glad that Baby is acting more like herself. I would be on top of monitoring. It's possible that even a drop may be more than what Baby needs especially as the infection clears.

Great day already!! Jojo once told me it is almost impossible for a cat to hypo on mini doses-So.

Such good news for you and Baby, Nicole.
I am so happy for the two of you and paws crossed Baby's infection clears up
very nicley and she continues to eat well.

Yay Nicole and Baby!! :-D Looking great today, and it sounds like Baby is starting to feel better, too. Hooray!!

ummm, me, too. baby ate at +10, had freeze dried snacks at +11, no food spike what-so-ever, and pmps was lower than the +10.
agree with libby. get a +1...

Will get a +1!! I know it sounds strange.. but I am scared to take her off insulin.. so we will reduce to fat zero.
She is eating a plate of Raw now.. see you in 30mins ;-)

no, it's not strange at all. many of us have been scared to death to withhold insulin.
it's ok, we'll be scheduling an intervention very soon. :-D

I TOTALLy get it Nicole. I felt the same way ...wanting to be SO sure it was right.
But we never had those dramatic drops as you..our lowest ever was 49 just once. baby's virtually doing it on her own already anyway.

Am SO happy she is doing better & eating. I've been keeping an eye on ya'll and know you had some scary days there. So hard figuring out what to do. If only they could talk. I guess getting a handle on this infection put things in perspective. Nothing keeps her down.

nailbite_smile Traci! I think a lot of people go OTJ after .1, but I am one of those real nervous types, I am going to do a Fat zero.. I am soooooooo scared to remove it completely just yet.. with her on the antibiotic... well.. I will be honest.. I am scared anyway.. the antibiotic just gives me a good excuse :roll:

WCR Baby has had a playful night, surfing the 40's.. interested in eating here & there but not big amounts.. most definitely doing the mini meal thing on her own! I am going to stay up another hour or so to make sure she stays safe & will probably get up at 1am to get a +9 & feed.

So did you sprinkle Evo (badword Dry) on her food and it worked?

Knew you said you were going to grab some to get her over this hump. Immediately when Hank was DX i bought 2 bags (they ate regular Innova dry + their canned before) thinking i could use it to transition him and hope my civvie would eat it. But I ended up yanking the dry pretty much cold turkey from Hank instead...probably too fast.
Anyway, Elvis is not much inot it...he may munch on a teenise bit here and there. But it does help when Hank is finicky...I crumble maybe 2-4 pieces up and sprinkle on top. It's gotten him to finish leftovers, eat more bites or try something new when he's otherwise walked away.Maybe only 10 pieces a day and not every day. It's his fortiflora. Such an insignificant amount I think it's ok. Ultimately he actually eats MORE canned because of it.

Anyway...SO glad she's better. Her numbers without the infection are probably in the teens. You better hurry and work through the fumes stage. if anyone can go low on a fat 0 it will be Baby.

Betty ;-) you got that right.. lil Drama Momma in the Dictionary is Defined as: Baby! I am really shaving the dose super uper ultra near nothing.
Funny thing.. I bought the bag of EVO yesterday.. brought it home.. put a kibble in each lil ball of Raw that I give her, sat it down.. she sniffed it, I freaked & picked it up & picked the kibble out & gave it to Sadi (her sister) & exchanged the bag for some freeze dried treats. I was all talk & no action.. I was super scared to introduce dry again.. I have always said.. switching Baby to canned was the biggest nightmare of this whole process.. even worse than her 1st day in Lantus Land.. the infamous OD. I literally & am not being dramatic.. thought I was going to D I E! Die I tell you!! Baby was a noooooooo gooooooooo on canned for what felt like forever, she really is a tough cookie & showed me during that transition!!

**This is what got her to eat.... She has always enjoyed Whole Life Chicken Treats, but last night I bought another flavor they make Whole Life Turkey Treats

I understand missing : having to test & shoot, wake up at all hours to take a test, worry all day long while you are out-"IS THE CAT OK???",
running home from where ever you are to give the cat a shot, explaining to people who dont have a clue, what you are doing with your FD cat.

NO you will be happy, and Baby will be healthy, and you will have some peace back in your life--AND YOU WILL PRAISE THE LORD FOR THE GIFT THAT HE IS GIVING TO BABY!!! AND TO YOU!!

hi nicole. i "get" why you want to keep baby on insulin, but i would be remiss if i didn't post. i/we (those who work behind the scenes) recommend starting an otj trial on the next green preshot number. the baytril must have the infection from the abscess under control or we'd be seeing much higher numbers. baby has been dipping low... too low. it's time...

So funny about the Evo. I'll have to read that part back in your condo too about transitioning her from dry. Elvis, my other one is NOT INTERESTED whatsoever in canned. It's out, he could free feed on it all day long if he wanted. He would rather starve.
AND he is not into the treats either. We NEVER kept treats around...and now I have the freeze dried chicken ones for Hank, but Elvis has no interest in those either.
He did seem to sort of like this one sample can of SOrganic liver we got, (hank hated it)...but that has been it.
He is the consummate dry carb addict. Now that I know what I kow, I worry every time he drinks water.

You may have to help me figure it out. I would SO love to get him to eat at least SOME wet. I've done all the things you are supposed to do. But he goes on food strike. He is not overweight, but has scaly skin patches, I know from the dry.

PLEASE any tips would be greatly appreciated. But unlike Baby, Chicken or Turkey treats won't do it for him.

Will do as suggested.. I have always trusted, appreciated & valued all of you who have kept Baby on the appropriate dose. This is when I have to let go & see what happens, I never dreamed of an OTJ trial while on an antibiotic, but am thankful for her good #s & if her body gives me a green in the AM, we will begin that journey. Thank you :YMHUG:
 
i'm glad you're going to give it a try!
trust me, if there's an upwards trend... you'll hear us yelling, "SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!" from various parts of the country. oh, and canada, too! :mrgreen:

(I want to remind you of how disheartened you were a month or two ago when you saw Weber sail through LL and thought Baby would never get there. It's time to put down the syringe. Go kiss you Baby and do a happy dance!)
